Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.
So strange hearing Nozawa do Goku's voice without it being a voice-over.
Oh man, I didn't recognize Ryo Horikawa from afar and nearly choked on my food when I heard Vegeta's voice come out of him at 2:12.
3:46 - Vegeta doing a pirouette. That was beautiful. My fangirling is complete. *u*
Thank you Battle of Gods, "you really are number 1".
Is that pair of folded-arms Toriyama? Also, coincidence or not that he's wearing a blue sweatsuit. It's a darker blue than Goku's sweatsuit, but still a fun point. X3
Oh hey, it's the sushi-news-caster.
Thank you thank you thank you for linking this video. X3

If it's not in the manga, it didn't happen. Period.
It doesn't make sense for Vegeta to be stronger than Goku after that, anyway. Otherwise he could have taken Ginyu himself.
He has to be stronger than that. Freeza has the same model of scouter that the Ginyus do, which can read powers up to 180,000 at least without breaking.
Freeza's broke after reading Vegeta's power level, ergo Vegeta is somewhat stronger than 180,000.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!
I'm half way through the video but I had to post this.
Vegeta, you're so hilarious! hahaha
I love how Toriyama puts this prideful prince in such shameful situations hahaha
Back to the video!
EDIT
And a Akira Toriyama/Masako Nozawa talk? damn, that must be something incredible to witness, huh?
You know I keep thinking Toriyama's trying to make Vegeta less popular by having him get embarrased in fights and stuff like this only to find out he's become more popular every time he attempts too!!
EDIT: Listening to the soundtrack now...the Bingo song: Suitably epic for the most part, the Pilaf tracks were very interesting. I think Kei17 was right though, the movie does seem to jump between light-hearted and serious-epic without any sort of natural transition.
Am I the only one that's getting an Faulconer/Menza/Johnson/Levy vibe from this soundtrack. OK, I'll leave.
At 3 minutes they show the U. Gohan/SSJ Gohan scene with Gohan as a SSJ charging Birus lol hmmmm....

That's because they were just playing the first trailer.
Also Vegeta, your dancing makes Gohans look manly.
EDIT: That is Toriyama! Why can't we see you and your awesome glory.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
Spoiler:
Doctor. wrote:I've explained before, I'll just paraphrase myself.
Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.

All good, glad I have an awesome forum to share it with.
Can't believe the movie's only 3 days out now! Just starting to come to grips with the fact that this is happening. And I only had to wait 5 years!
I'm also still only now processing that this singing/dancing pirouetting Vegeta is something that actually happens.
This is the kind of stuff that used to float around for fun on fanfiction.net back in the day. Mind is blown.
And just the way that everyone else is reacting to Vegeta as he pirouettes on stage only adds to how priceless it is!

Well, from what I've heard, some Japanese fans can get a little out of hand (Not that you can't find crazy find crazy fans anywhere in the world, because you most certainly do, but I digress). So from what I seen, Mangaka don't usually show their faces on media too often, if at all.
So, yeah, I think I prefer Toriyama to keep being "shy", in case a crazy fan stops him on the streets demanding more Dragon Ball or else.
Yes, Goku visited me once. He turned to me while I was still speechless, and said, "You've drank too much"...
Retan wrote:So was Vegeta in a training session before King Kai contacted him about bills?
Yes, he actually doesn't even join Bulma's party until he goes to try and warn everyone about Birus.
B wrote:Is "Birus" pronounced like "virus" or "beerus?"
Well, in Japanese it's pronounced more like "beerus" than English speakers typically pronounce "virus" (more like "vairus", I guess). This could get kind of weird, since the English pronunciation for the word his name is a pun on is rather different than how his name is pronounced in Japanese.

So he goes to warn them, but then Birus is already there, so Vegeta has to immediately start playing party-host instead? (Which must confuse the rest of the party-goers.) X3

This just keeps getting more and more hilarious by the minute
I almost feel sorry for Vegeta ....almost
