This means there's not as much tension in the story if it's Goku vs Cell instead of Goku vs Freeza. Meanwhile, Freeza achieved a Battle Power of 120,000,000 simply by existing.
The manga says no. He knows a wide variety of techniques he couldn't possibly know just by existing, he can fight evenly with Goku hand to hand when they have close power levels, he is stated to be a skilled air combatant by Goku, and he references having fought his father before (the fact that he clearly respects his father and is on good terms with him makes me doubt the context was something other than training).
Not gonna lie, I would love for Cell to come back instead of Freeza.
I would as well. Imperfect Cell is ten times cooler than Freeza and Perfect Cell, while just as lame as Freeza, at least makes more sense for the story. He's SS2-tier to begin with and has enormous potential, so there's nothing saying he couldn't get to Vegetto+ tier just by training (I'd still find it BS, though). Plus, unlike Freeza, he can actually produce henchmen powerful enough to make the post-Buu supporting cast work up a sweat.

Speaking of which, it's "nice" to see that they've all but outright said that Ultimate Gohan isn't a thing anymore. Heck, SS2 Gohan might not even be a thing. Honestly, if they were going to treat him like this in all of the post-Buu material, Toriyama should have just said "oh yeah, he lost the power-up like a year after the Buu arc and never thought to get it back, making Goku and Vegeta the strongest non-fusions" (SS3 Gotenks and Mr. Buu are fusions).

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke
Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

One of my main gripes with this movie is that it makes the Cooler character completely irrelevant. Well, I guess he is irrelevant being strictly a movie character and all. But it's like with this movie AT just took the concept of Cooler and pasted it on to Freeza - discovers new transformation through training, becomes far more powerful than true form making it look meager in comparison.

Way to bury my favorite DBZ movie character, AT

Cell is a better character to me (Minus his second form..blah) but Freeza is much more popular.

Cell Games era is considered by many fans to be the worst part of Z isn't it?

I'd say any part with Cell and the androids is the worst part of Z, but that's just me.

The Cell games saga was the most popular saga in both in America and Japan. A lot of fans in the US seems to like the Cell saga because how darker and more serious it felt.

I don't know what others think, but I loved Goku vs Cell. Other than Cell vs Gohan, which was cool but my least favorite part of the cell arc, I loved all of the Android Arc, and the way in which their powers increased was illustrated perfectly. Long as it is, I wish the Majin Buu arc was longer so it could illustrate the power increases luke the Android Arc did.

Cell saga was the best (IMO). Had some of the best fights.

I am pretty sure the opposite is true. At least here in the US. Buu is considered the worst.

It's the literal meaning of the "Son" in "Son Goku". Bulma mentions him a couple of times in connection with him and Vegeta training under Whis.

Here with most people in Kanzenshuu, the Cell saga's either the worst cuz there's no "happy happy joy joy" or the second worse(second to Buu). Everywhere else, it's considered one of the best sagas in the series(either Cell>Frieza>Saiyan>Buu or Cell=Frieza>Saiyan>Buu). It's also my favorite saga as well.

I like Cell better than Frieza, but I do see why Frieza was brought back. I still don't like the idea though. If there's a good explanation behind the revival, I'll let it slide.

The thing about bringing back Cell is that it would work much better as one of those Broly-type Toei movies. Only fun for a good fight and that's it, because really, there's nothing supporting Cell to have a reason to come back. Not that I'm against Cell, even though he's my least favorite villain, but I think Freeza has the backstory that makes him the quintessential super villain in DB (Piccolo Daimaoh does too, but he's super dead and Ma Junior is a good guy, so forget it) what with his killing of all the saiyans and his being an evil intergalactic emperor who murders everyone around. And also, the iconic fact that he's the one who awakened the SSJ form.

Cell was just a cyborg/bug thing that wanted to prove that he was the strongest, and also, his beef would be with Gohan who is now a background character. So it gives the movie even less of a plot, in my opinion.

I can't believe I read through all the pages on this thread but here we are. I'm not a Vegeta fan at all, but I'm interested in what could happen between him and Freeza because I always thought they had the best backstory to sustain a good interaction.

I'm really worried about Goten (sorry to bring him up) because even in the Nozawa comment thing for Bulma's blog she's credited as Son Goku and Son Gohan's voice. I know Goten is more of an afterthought than anything else, but this is just weird. Maybe he does play a bigger part and they are counting on hiding the reveal, or I don't know. Very weird.

The only Freeza message I see up on the site right now is the original one with Freeza talking about his revival and stuff.
Direct translations of the Korean DB Online timeline and guidebook.

We are waiting on the translation for today's Bulma blog though: http://ameblo.jp/dragonball2015/entry-11993937548.html
I'm hoping it gives some hints on why Vegeta's joined Gokû on his training journey. :3

Herms, if I may ask, how long did it take for you to get to a comfortable level of Japanese maatery/learning, amd would you consider yourself a fast learner? I am learning multiple languages right now, and I am considering adding Japanese to the list, though I want to have an idea of what it'd be like.
