That's a weird TV.

Anywho, framerates? Does that have anything to do with in-between animation?

There is an option for a 4:3 view, but it only cropped the sides even more.

That's why, before I burn a DVD, I make all the 4:3 videos to 16:9 by flatting them.
That's your problem there. Those type of videos aren't exactly modified for proper TV resolutions. While you can view it fine on your comp, it'll always end up being cropped, even if you put it on a regular TV.

Just those few scenes.
Why would they bother with in-between animation touch-ups digitally if they weren't going to touch up most if not all frames in the first place? The one he was doing... what in particular was wrong with it to need to go over the lines again digitally?

I'm incredibly intrigued now. Here's hoping Toei posts more about the process they used to make DragonBall Kai in the next few weeks!

Ok wait, What series were you watching?
If's probable it was made in 4:3 to begin with, thus no cropping.

Well, I'm thoroughly intrigued. If they're actually putting as much work into this as it somewhat appears they are, I'll be completely blown away. Corey, I'm with ya, I really hope we get a behind the scenes look at the remastering process for DragonBall Kai.

Hey everyone, seeing that the layout for the official Dragonball Kai site has been update, does anyone have a screenshot of the original layout? Thanks!

Anyone think, if they're retracing frames, the most egregious errors in the series (like mutant Vegeta in the village) might be cleaned up a little? Maybe I'm reaching... but it would be nice. God it would be nice. I just need something positive to think about right now.

I'm hoping they clean up some of the god awful art in the Freeza and Cell saga, so every each episode is consistent, but I honestly doubt they're going to do that. It looks like they'll just trace over every picture and touch up the colors a bit, then re record all the voices saying exactly the same thing, then sell it as a new product.

BGM Composer

Post by kei17 » Thu Mar 12, 2009 8:31 am

The BGM composer for DB Kai has been announced on the official site of Fuji TV.
http://wwwz.fujitv.co.jp/b_hp/dragonbal ... frame.html

山本健司 (Kenji Yamamoto)

His works:

Composition
Shura Iro No Senshi
Battle Point Unlimited (Used as a BGM in DBZ Episode 120)
BGMs for DBZ Super Butouden Series on SNES/SFC
BGMs for DBZ Shin Butouden on SS / Ultimate Battle 22 on PS

Adaptation
Cha-La-Head-Cha-La
Detekoi Tobikiri Zenkai Power
Mind Power ...Ki...
Unmei No Hi ~Tamashii vs. Tamashii~
Tenkaichi Gohan
Piccolo-san Daaisuki?
And many other DB-related Songs

Personally, I like his works, but I'm really dissapointed because this means that they'll never use Shunsuke Kikuchi's great musics on DBZ anymore.... And the possibility of release of the DB and DBZ complete BGM CD BOX has almost completely vanished..

So he's gonna do new versions of those songs? Should be interesting.

Edit: Nevermind, it's clear to me now that he did the arrangement of the original versions of those songs. He's a good choice for the series, although I would've kept the original BGM but had it re-recorded.

Hmm... I dunno.

His music works in the games because it's mostly fighting and there's hardly a story in the games. You watch some stills come on the screen, their mouths move, and you fight.

Unless he is going to adapt Kikuchi's score in his style, that would be a different story.

Seriously, if there was to be a new composer, then he would be my number 1 choice. Love his compositions in the video games, and it's cool to see that he has worked on many songs from the show, some of my favorites; Battle Point Unlimited, Head Cha La, Unmei No Hi... awesome.

Really looking forward to this now. :D

EDIT: My brother has updated his Wikipedia page, so if anyone wants to add anything, go ahead.

So the guy who composed battle point unlimited will be doing the music now. That is my favorite piece of work for the Japanese BGM, so I'm pretty excited for that.

I would just hope the BGM will not be as repetitive as the current version.

I'm all for it if it stays true to the general overall "tune" of Dragonball. To me it'll just be like the music in the new special compared to the TV series.

OK, I fear greatly now for the future of Kikuchi CD releases. Why, why, why!?
hotrod28 wrote:I would just hope the BGM will not be as repetitive as the current version.
OK, that would be one good thing that would come of this, if it turns out true. I do have to agree, even if there is something to be said about using music to a point where it becomes a known staple of a certain saga, it CAN go overboard. I enjoy The Dead Zone Is Summoned Up, the music from Movie 1 which was also used during Goku's first SSJ transformation, just as much as the next person, but the fact that they used it at every chance they got in the Saiyan and Freeza sagas kind of dilutes its "shock" value. You actually kind of get sick of it. Same thing with Garlic Jr. Transforms.
That's one thing about the BGM in DragonBall that I felt could have been better.
BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

Ho...ly crap. While I'm dissapointed about the lack of the original music, I cannot think of a better person to make a "reimagined" score. I love nearly all of Yamamoto's works, from the games to his insert songs.

It's funny. For years I assumed some of the songs he composed for the games (Hikari No Will Power, Final Bout's SS4 Goku Theme, Vegeta's Butoden 1 theme, Trunks' Butoden 2 & 3 themes, etc) were actually in the Japanese version of the show. I'd REALLY like to see how this works out and a part of me hopes some of the video game songs make it in here.

I sure hope Yamamoto does the show and Kikuchi's work justice. I really hope he adapts some of Kikuchi's themes as well as create his own. That would be the best of both worlds.

So how about those comparisons to the Orange Box now?

Wait, the guy who arranged Cha-la Head Cha-la is doing the score?
I'm already sold, he'll do a good job if that's anything to go by!!
I hope tho, that he's not going to create an ENTIRELY new score from scratch, I hope we get SOME of the old tracks redone and/or mixed into the new tracks
