Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

My mistake.
Got a feeling that the site's about to crash again.
Ah, that. You give them the stub from your big ticket and they give you a ticket with your seat assignment on it. I wouldn't let them take my exclusive illustration.

I hope you don't mind me asking Julian, but what was the kid-to-adult ratio like in the theatre? And was there a big queue waiting outside after the first screening?
So random thought after reading the synopsis: That means Goku at base by end of z is still lower than Frieza. Phew okay, that tosses out some of the insane numbers that say Goku base >>> 100% Frieza.
Best Dragon Ball movie. Hands down.
Granted, I've only read the synopsis, but I love it, and my opinion of the film can only go up when I get to watch it.
But the best part is that the movie leaves a huge door open for more Dragon Ball. Whether Toei or Toriyama or both go through it, we'll have to wait and see.
I really wanna see this movie now!
Yes, Goku visited me once. He turned to me while I was still speechless, and said, "You've drank too much"...
Interesting, Goku never surpassed Freeza in base. People who had those levels of power for Goku are right. This also proves Piccolo>Base Saiyans. This also makes power levels a lot smaller in range between people in the earlier sagas.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Doctor. wrote:I've explained before, I'll just paraphrase myself.
Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.
Seems like tickets are selling well, if Google Translate is telling me correctly.
A listing has appeared on the CinemaToday for something simply entitled, Dragon Ball: http://www.cinematoday.jp/movie/T0017317
Not sure if it's been there for a while, or if it has only just appeared. Either way, I hope it means what I want it to mean.
Thanks for the summary guys! The movie sounds really fun. I love that Piccolo doesn't think Goku is pure of heart...probably because he knew he was watching.
I still hope we see some of that unused storyboard sometime if it does exist.

I read the synopsis, and I don't know what to say other than I can't wait to see this movie. Everything about it sounds amazing--I just can't pick out a single part to comment on.
Oh, I guess there is one thing: it's really interesting to me that a god's power can't be sensed. That has a really mysterious feel to it, and it makes the fight less predictable when you can't just go, "His ki is bigger than his!"
Zombie wrote:Goku has to be suppressed (Just like the 2008 special), theres no way his not over Freeza.
You'd think Birusu would be the kind of person to take that into account, as opposed to Tarble, who didn't know about controlling ki at all if I remember right. But I guess anything's possible.

From the synopsis alone... BEST DRAGON BALL MOVIE EVER!
But hold on though... why is Mr Satan not aware of who Dende is when he was in the company of Dende for a good portion of the Buu Saga?

Mayuri Kurotsuchi wrote:"In this world, nothing perfect exists. It may be a cliche after all but it's the way things are. That's precisely why ordinary men pursue the concept of perfection, it's infatuation. But ultimately I have to ask myself "What is the true meaning of being perfect?" and the answer I came up with was nothing. Not one thing. The truth of the matter is I despise perfection! If something is truly perfect, that's IT! The bottom line becomes there is no room for imagination! No space for intelligence or ability or improvement! Do you understand? To men of science like us, perfection is a dead end, a condition of hopelessness. Always strive to be better than anything that came before you but not perfect! Scientist's agonize over the attempt to achieve perfection! That's the kind of creatures we are! We take joy in trying to exceed our grasp, in trying to reach for something that in the end, we have to admit may in fact be unreachable!"
I tried to post this earlier, but the traffic is beyond crazy. @_@
I cannot wait to see the "Kaio-sama and Goku ride around that tiny planet in Kaio's car while he explains about Birusu" gag. I wonder how many times they'll pass the house. XD
Also, Vegeta and Bulma teaming up against Goku for spying at the end is fantastic! "Slap him again!" "With pleasure."
It is hilarious the extent to which the conversation in BoG where Mister Satan is told Dende is God matches almost exactly the equivalent conversation in the Boo arc.
For those not wanting to wade through the super-long summary, the main BoG movie page has a "summary" section offering a comprehensive but not insanely detailed run-down of the film.
Oh, and remember way back when I mentioned Birus only puts forth 70% of his power in the final fight, and implied I was kidding? Well, I was kidding about kidding, because that's totally in the movie.
