FUNimation Dragon Box Z #1 (In-Hands) Discussion
I ordered it August 7th, which I believe is the day it first came up on Amazon.SonGokuGT wrote:I checked my e-mail and I didn't get a shipping confirmation from them...jjgp1112 wrote:Awesome, Amazon shipped my DBox today! Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I'll get a confirmation soon! Mine says that the approximate delivery date is between the 20th and 24th...jjgp1112 wrote:I ordered it August 7th, which I believe is the day it first came up on Amazon.SonGokuGT wrote:I checked my e-mail and I didn't get a shipping confirmation from them...jjgp1112 wrote:Awesome, Amazon shipped my DBox today! I finally got to mess with my set today. I was happy to see the disk trays and everything were in fantastic condition, especially after seeing some of the messed up copies some of you guys have gotten.
I haven't gotten to watch any of the DVDs just yet, but I will say that it's a spiffy looking package... Though I was surprised to see how tiny the DragonBook was. I guess I was expecting it to defy the laws of space, and fit in that little box, while still being Daizenshuu sized, or something.
Because I'm utterly retarded.
I'm so glad to finally have this in my possession, though.

As well as on the cover of each of the DBox Z individual discs. I really think they could have come up with some sort of different intro.Kendamu wrote:Yeah, they used it for that, too. It's from the original Dragon Box.And it's on the back of the FUNiBox.

Today I saw it in Best Buy and it irked me. Luckily, I was able to soothe my nerves with a purchase of Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0 while I was there.

Mine might end up coming this weekend. My friend who's a frequent Amazon customer told me that his stuff usually takes one or two days to arrive after they ship. Kentucky isn't too far from Georgia, thankfully.

Do you mean what shipping method? Free 2-day shipping, thanks to my Amazon Prime trial.MajinVejitaXV wrote:How was it shipped?jjgp1112 wrote:Mine might end up coming this weekend. Hmmm:
"As stated on our Web site, there is no weekend service for our Second
or Next Day delivery options. Therefore, a package that leaves our
fulfillment center on a Saturday or Sunday does not actually reach
the shipper until Monday morning."
So I'll probably be getting it Monday. The weekend is out.

I'm not sure what you're getting at. A digital copy will be just as good - i.e. 1:1 - on tape as it would on a 400 GB BluRay disc. Tape may lead to a greater chance of corruption, but that's it. Its not like a photocopy where copying it many times or on different paper lead to different quality. If TOEI sent FUNI a 1:1 digital copy to work with, then they have exactly what Japan has as a starting point to make their DVDs (regardless of the medium they sent it).Jon Jon wrote:This is dependent on the media being used. On optical, flash, and hard drive mediums, this would hold true. This is because when accessing the files from these devices, no physical contact is being made to the data itself.SSVegetto wrote:Hold on a second, if the Dragon Box masters is digital. Then why wouldn't Funimation get a 1:1 copy of the source? Obviously Toei isn't going to send their original dragonbox masters source to them. But instead they would give them a 1:1 copy of the masters to them. And since it's digital it would be unaltered. Unless you are saying Toei purposely gave them a altered Dragonbox masters source, because they never want them to produce the quality that they made. To prevent people from Japan from importing their sources.
I'm assuming that both have same source, one a copy and one the original. So the rest is in the hands of Funimation's to encode and make superior DVDs to the Japanese Dragonbox. The encoding methods from the same 1:1 sources from two different companies will prevent them from ever being 1:1 on DVD's though.
So correct me if I'm wrong though. That's what I'm assuming you are getting at.
If one of these is the case, then I think that is why R2J anime is always higher quality than what we get here in the States.
When it comes to digibeta tapes, there is contact being made, thus a degredation in the quality of the data every time the data is accessed.
This is why VHS tapes go bad and the quality degrades after a while, the players made physical contact with the film. This is also why Laser Discs were the better medium, because they were optical so the data never made physical contact with the player (aside from resolution differences and etc.).
Yes, digital is digital. Zeros and Ones are Zeros and Ones. However, when you are storing them on tape, data becomes less and less 1:1 due to corruption. This corruption is due to the physical contact being made to the tape every time the data is being accessed.
Oh Bluray, we need you in 400gb disc capacities PRONTO!

Funimation was never going to get a 1:1 source, anything who thinks that needs their head examined.

While it's possible, it's not likely. If it reaches the shipper (usually FedEx from my experience) on Monday, it should hit your door Tuesday. Depends on what the tracking they gave you indicates though.jjgp1112 wrote:Do you mean what shipping method? Free 2-day shipping, thanks to my Amazon Prime trial.

Why do you keep saying that? Do you think Toei just doesn't care enough? Or do you think it was an intentional decision? Is it because you think FUNimation is incapable?godofchaos wrote:Funimation was never going to get a 1:1 source, anything who thinks that needs their head examined.
I didn't read all of your posts.
I assume he is implying FUNimation won't receive an exact copy to give the Japanese discs at least a minor advantage.Innagadadavida wrote:Why do you keep saying that?
