You have a good point. Just occurred to me, why would they put so much detail, work, and whatnot into a "mid-transforming" sequence when they could just do that in CGI? Possible reason; this is the final version of this movie's "Oozaru". So unless JAPPO has a concrete source that says this isn't the final product, I'm thinking we could be stuck with an Incredible Hulkin' vampiric Fish Guy. >_>MisterFlashdude wrote:It seems like quite a lot of cranial detail for something they'd intend to cover up with CGI fur to me.

Unless he struggles with the transformation at first, and there's a few scenes of him being stuck somewhere in between, growling and snarling or... gargling in fish-like fashion (what have you), until he gets fuzzy.Conan the SSJ wrote:Just occurred to me, why would they put so much detail, work, and whatnot into a "mid-transforming" sequence when they could just do that in CGI?
Or that's the final look. I d'no.

I am tired of the leaked stuff and all the new reasons for people to come out and say again how much the movie sucks. I want to believe that the movie will be at least somthing worthy of the name Dragonball. Too bad we may have to come to grips with somthing else entirely. Until you have seen the movie yourself stop with the leaks and don't respond to any threads on the movie. Jappo is only shooting himself in the foot and making the movie look bad. He is going to make us hate it before it even comes out. I have to call bullshit on this and the trailer he says he found. I have to believe that the folks at FOX will see what is wrong and change it. Espero que sera un pelicula buena.

I'll never understand the mentality of someone who can't stand the voicing and sharing of opinions on a forum.Bardock the Mexican wrote:Until you have seen the movie yourself stop with the leaks and don't respond to any threads on the movie.
That's it's purpose. If you can't endure it and want no part of it, you shouldn't be here.

If I appear hostile it is because JAPPO has tried our patience for far too long here; every single time we discuss something new about this movie he’s always dangling some prospective factoid in front of our faces expecting us to jump for it. Nobody ever does, and when we call him out on this obvious ploy for attention he plays the victim and starts whining about how us rabid fanboys won’t ever give him a break. No matter how many times this little song and dance of his plays out and inevitably goes sour, he doesn’t ever seem to learn that being the resident purveyor of live-action movie material on this forum doesn’t afford him this arrogance he’s bestowed upon himself. He has a generally bad attitude even outside of movie discussions as well, and as far as I’m concerned, he hasn’t earned my respect. I don’t care if he’s banned or not, but something’s got to give here.
On [the other] topic…
Is there anything to suggest that it’s mid-transformation? I mean, other than the fact that it looks really really bad and we’re only hoping that’s the case? Because if it is, that’s a lot of mask for something that might not even last that long in the movie. Judging by Piccolo’s look, this could very well be it. The hair follicles or lack thereof seem to be integrated into the design, like Piccolo’s antennae. I wouldn’t be surprised if this form was merged with Super Saiyan just for simplicity’s sake.
Besides, if they were really going to digitally paint or attach prosthetic fur onto this thing then we likely wouldn’t see any of that rigidity and detail; I’d imagine those features being discarded in favor of a smoother surface onto which they could more easily apply such things. And just look at it—the creature is positively piscine in nature; I see nothing to indicate possible mammalian characteristics other than it walking upright (unless they want to make it even uglier).
The people wondering if his tail is intact/will grow back and whether this is an addition to a monkey form or has anything to do with the full moon at all are assuming way too much; I could understand that type of speculation earlier, but as it stands now we should really throw everything we think we know about Dragon Ball out the window because the creative direction pretty much seems to be a free-for-all. I mean, if Joon Park can walk into an audition and without even delivering a single line, become Yamcha, then they really can’t be trying to hard with this one, and I think it shows.

Here's something I found that I never posted anywhere else. A friend of mine sent me a link to a forum where a bunch of people who make props for fun shared their work. One of them was a guy who made a Dragonball prop for fun. Then someone responded to it with "nice, I know the guy who made the actual prop," and he linked to the official prop guys website with a direct link to the Dragonball.
I am assuming because it was uploaded by this person that he won't get into trouble if I post it here.

Official website is http://www.freewebs.com/ricksprops/index.htm
Now yell at me.

Some quick bits in regards to what's been said since I last posted...
In regards to Goku being a Saiyan, that hasn't changed. Piccolo is the one to apparently recognize his alien heritage, due likely to his crazy hair and strength, and reveals it to him, trying to mess with his head and coerce him to join him. It's one of the big things about the plot we've known from practically the beginning.
Whether or not he has a tail, at any point, hasn't been solidly confirmed or refuted yet. Since there's some incarnation of Ozaru, that might suggest he would or did, but again, we haven't seen anything one way or the other. Doesn't look likely though.
As for Movie-Zaru, as you might call it, I'm kind of on the fence about it. I agree it's scary in its own way. A little hair added and it would look pretty good, which I think will happen in one way or another. After all, Chatwin's got plenty of hair; hard to believe it would all fall off for the transformation then grow back when he reverts.

Huh. If that's not an actual movie Dragon Ball, it's still pretty neat-looking. If that's what they look like in the film, I'd be perfectly happy.
Of the Oozaru, I'm interested in seeing how this develops. I'm not mad about it, really. I'm just now very curious to see how this will end up in the film. It's definitely an odd image...and I don't know what I think of it by itself other than a sheer sense of mystery. This could be any number of things, and there are so many possibilities for the final product, one of them being that this IS the final product, but even THAT leaves open a few possibilities.
I say that, without context, a reasonable person just HAS to give this thing the benefit of the doubt. It's not like arguing over the color and design of the Gi, or of the appearance of several characters in the leaked trailer. We know the context of those, and what they're supposed to be. But this is something that doesn't have that all-important context in place, and so all arguments would be based mostly on conjecture.
On JAPPO, I would not want to see him banned. He could be more tactful, and *should* be. But so should those that reply in anger towards his own abrasive statements. If you're going to ban or punish JAPPO in some way, then also so should those that make personal attacks towards him be punished in at least an equal fashion.
JAPPO is not a bad person, and he can be pretty reliable as far as actual information goes. It would be better if he simply either cited his sources or realized that he should just say that he cannot cite his source, and admit that any information he can't cite is going to be taken with a grain of salt. There are things he could and probably should work on to be a more respected member of the community, but I really doubt that he is a troll for the sake of trolling. I don't think he means any harm.
The first thing that the community should do is try and treat him with respect, and make their arguments without being hostile. He does have a point in that a substantial portion of the community reacts to him rather consistently with animosity. The better person will be the one to treat someone with respect, even if they don't return the favor.

Sculpture looks ok IMO. I would prefer hair on it.
For comparison's sake, here's a (non-related) sketch of a hairy werewolf from the movie's creature designer: http://a.tuis.free.fr/images_color/OZ.jpg
