Hmmm:
"As stated on our Web site, there is no weekend service for our Second
or Next Day delivery options. Therefore, a package that leaves our
fulfillment center on a Saturday or Sunday does not actually reach
the shipper until Monday morning."
So I'll probably be getting it Monday. The weekend is out.

So, I have the Dragon Box.
As I tore open the mail packaging and held it in my hands for the first time, I got goosebumps and literally started shaking. I then began to laugh uncontrollably. I don't think it hit me until that very moment that I'd finally be watching the Dragon Box after so many years of waiting.
It's beautiful. The photos don't do it justice. When it's in your hands it's at least 10 times more amazing.
Just wow.

That's what UPS says when you pull the tracking? Then it'll be there Tuesday. From my experience, UPS never arrives early. I've had packages sit at the local hub for a day if they were ahead of schedule.jjgp1112 wrote:It says "Delivery Estimate: November 17, 2009".MajinVejitaXV wrote:Oh, then what is their scheduled date? No, it won't.ect5150 wrote:I'm not sure what you're getting at. A digital copy will be just as good - i.e. 1:1 - on tape as it would on a 400 GB BluRay disc. Tape may lead to a greater chance of corruption, but that's it. Its not like a photocopy where copying it many times or on different paper lead to different quality. If TOEI sent FUNI a 1:1 digital copy to work with, then they have exactly what Japan has as a starting point to make their DVDs (regardless of the medium they sent it).Jon Jon wrote:This is dependent on the media being used. On optical, flash, and hard drive mediums, this would hold true. This is because when accessing the files from these devices, no physical contact is being made to the data itself.SSVegetto wrote:Hold on a second, if the Dragon Box masters is digital. Then why wouldn't Funimation get a 1:1 copy of the source? Obviously Toei isn't going to send their original dragonbox masters source to them. But instead they would give them a 1:1 copy of the masters to them. And since it's digital it would be unaltered. Unless you are saying Toei purposely gave them a altered Dragonbox masters source, because they never want them to produce the quality that they made. To prevent people from Japan from importing their sources.
I'm assuming that both have same source, one a copy and one the original. So the rest is in the hands of Funimation's to encode and make superior DVDs to the Japanese Dragonbox. The encoding methods from the same 1:1 sources from two different companies will prevent them from ever being 1:1 on DVD's though.
So correct me if I'm wrong though. That's what I'm assuming you are getting at.
If one of these is the case, then I think that is why R2J anime is always higher quality than what we get here in the States.
When it comes to digibeta tapes, there is contact being made, thus a degredation in the quality of the data every time the data is accessed.
This is why VHS tapes go bad and the quality degrades after a while, the players made physical contact with the film. This is also why Laser Discs were the better medium, because they were optical so the data never made physical contact with the player (aside from resolution differences and etc.).
Yes, digital is digital. Zeros and Ones are Zeros and Ones. However, when you are storing them on tape, data becomes less and less 1:1 due to corruption. This corruption is due to the physical contact being made to the tape every time the data is being accessed.
Oh Bluray, we need you in 400gb disc capacities PRONTO!
Tape is also much more climate sensitive than optical/hard drive media is. The data on tape exists in the physical realm, it is accessed via magnetism (I forget the actual method as to how the data is taken off of tape, but I know it has to do with the tape being magnetic. The very initial reading of the tape will degrade the quality of the data being accessed.
Digital to Digital isn't always 1:1. You are transferring to different storage mediums. Get the idea of transferring data from a hard drive to a cd/dvd/bd or flash drive out of your head. it just isn't the same process and tape is no where near as reliable as said media.

Got mine today as well. Went with Mike's approach, and used a Target ad at Best Buy. They held me one of three copies they had, as of my calling yesterday. It's beautiful. Read the Dragon Book, Admired the packaging, and am on the ending song for the first episode in Japanese. I intend for the DBox to be my first full watch of the anime in Japanese (hard to rewatch some filler just after watching the dub, so I started right with the default Japanese).

If it's about the using at instead of ad, I corrected it. If it's about you being forced to wait, sorry to hear.
I'm very excited to have this set. I wish the disc based extras were on this set, but I hold hopes that Box 2 will have one, including the Bardock Special, and one with the Trunks special will be in the right place.

Nah, I was just joking because I was the one who first pitched the price match idea. I actually texted Mike and Heath when I got the box to let them know it worked. I was patient zero ;pMewzard wrote:If it's about the using at instead of ad, I corrected it. If it's about you being forced to wait, sorry to hear.

I finally got to watch a bit of this set. I made it through the first two episodes, and loved every minute of it. I haven't watched these episodes since the first remastered set came out, so it was neat to see little things that I didn't remember.
I will say that everyone that said "you have to see it in motion" was absolutely correct. It looks absolutely brilliant. I hate using my 360 as a DVD player (because it E74'd when I was using it as a primary player), but I opted to do so for this just to upscale it through HDMI, and even on my budget Vizio set, it looks fantastic.
I am afraid that I have my color settings off just a bit. The blue in Goku's gi looks more purple than blue, and the red on Gohan's outfit looks more pink.
Granted, I haven't seen any DragonBox shots of these scenes (really, the only shot I have ingrained in my brain is shirtless Goku from the Vegeta fight), so maybe I'm just being paranoid.
Also, the sound sounded really, really bad for a little bit during the first episode (mostly just the narration... It was just really compressed and nasty sounding), but I haven't had any issues since.

Alright. I got Dragon Box yesterday. I really wish I could have taken pictures like Vegetto EX-san did with DBOX The Movies on Feature section but the camera wasn't in my house (I don’t think it was, mind you) so I just excitedly skipped ahead and got over it. The first think I did was to check if there were any extras, of course. I must say the Dragon Box was exactly I expect it to be. It was so shiny than what Hujio over Kanzentai described, DBOX being glossy. I simply used VLC to check if there was anything wrong with the picture quality, amount of grain, everything. I enjoyed watching it so much just like everybody else does. To me, it was kind of childish. I mean, the widescreen didn’t help me get ignited as much as it did with DBOX. The orange brick picture quality was “meh.”I really wish DBOX #3 or #4 is here so I just could get hand on Trunks special and Playdia footage.
Anyway, here are the pros and cons.
The menus are just what I would expect from original Japanese set. I was little caught off guard when I saw the translation of episode titles over the menu. There isn’t much to say about them. I can only say “thumb-up.”
I was impressed with the Dragon Book. The color cover and artwork were simply amazing. I was floored by it. I like how they even retained original character names and even episode air dates. The character sketches were a nice bonus. Not only that but the books had beautiful character artwork on discs, unlike season sets!
The Dragon Box has proper opening and ending themes as well as next episode previews. I really wish they had done that in the past... It was sad that they did garbage works and that they didn’t care about any of us (Vegetto EX tried to convinced them for almost decade.)
I was extremely disappointed that they didn’t dub the opening and ending songs like they did with Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT. (Dragon Ball was properly released once, for Kami-sama’s sake!) It’s a darn shame that they didn't do it for the sake of entirety.
I really wish they could have added English title cards in Japanese style. If they included them in menu, why not on cards? It would have been awesome bonus, though.
Needless to say, there weren’t any extras or “fillers” on the last disc such as the history of Dragon Box.
In conclusion, I give it 9 out of 10.

If Toei had their Dragon Box masters on digibetas then I would assume they just did straight clones to digibeta and gave those to FUNi. So I believe in that case they would be 1:1. I mean they can't really make a worse copy off the master, that is unless they give them beta SPs or something... but that's a little outdated now.Jon Jon wrote: No, it won't.
