Well, it may not be in this Super case, but in Naruto's english dub, the dub actors tend to match the facial exaggerations much better. Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
I agree completely. I'm fine with dub vs sub debates as long as they are discussed in an intelligent manner and each person's preferred version is respected. Writing off one's preference as being just "nostalgia" is detrimental to that and is a big factor in the polarization between the fans of both versions. Some prefer Japanese, some prefer English, some like me enjoy watching a mix of both and all those perspectives are fine, but the ultimate goal (as Geekdom101 preaches) is to unite the fandom. At the end of the day art is subjective and the less attempts made to exclude praise for one version of the show the better.GodVegetto91 wrote:This is precisely the kind of typical bullshit stance that has infected the db community throughout the years over the internet!Noah wrote:Yes, it is disrespect as these are just your nostalgia ticks tingling, the original is always better no matter what. (Okay ignoring King Kai/Narrator bad performance in the first episodes)
So just because they're the "Original Cast" ... They're automatically OBJECTIVELY infinitely better!??
It's only your subjective opinion!

I feel bad posting such a shallow opinion here, but Bulma's voice acting...I can't stand it. It makes her character completely unsympathetic to me. Her old voice actor managed to still sound pleasing to the ear when doing angry tones, like she does in Japanese.
Well, at least how I think she does in Japanese, not actually speaking Japanese. Maybe she sounds just as unbearable to people who can.

Really? I though many people hated dub Naruto, I could just watch 10 episodes of the first series, didn't like much the voices used.TheAldella wrote:Well, it may not be in this Super case, but in Naruto's english dub, the dub actors tend to match the facial exaggerations much better. Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
I just watched Episode 11 of Super and I have to say some of the dialogue felt very unnatural, and some lines were just plain too long. This could probably be due to the lip-flaps, as I noticed during the points when characters were talking in their heads; the dialogue felt a little bit more natural.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
There are many people who'd defend it just as there are many who hate it. Personally, I think the dub gets too much hate for no reason. Some people don't realize that some of the things done in the dub; "Believe it," "My nindo, my ninja way," etc, were done because of quirks in the original Japanese version. "Dattebayo," which is essentially Japanese gibberish that doesn't translate to anything, too many lipflaps, etc. I actually like the dub. It's not perfect, but Naruto isn't perfect. It has a decent overall plot, but, to take something from Lanipator from TFS Gaming, it tells the story in such a shitty way. Personally, I think that that's from the anime having an insane amount of filler to almost DBZ levels in terms of insane padding.Noah wrote:Really? Sabat said it's complicated, not surprising since the license of music is separate plus there is is theory that an Engrish version exists is stopping FUNi dub it. Hopefully it'll be sorted by the time the BDs come out.Footlong Shoe wrote:Well, no offense, but we're not here to argue about Naruto.Tsufuru wrote: the dub doesnt fit naruto at all.

That didn't stop them from using 'Fight It Out' for Kai TFC. I'd much prefer an actual English speaker singing it, to be honest. Preferably Vic Mignogna.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Sabat said it's complicated, not surprising since the license of music is separate plus there is is theory that an Engrish version exists is stopping FUNi dub it. Because Fight it Out and Never Give Up! were only made in English, for what we know, since the Kai Buu arc wasn't going to be in Japan at all.Scsigs wrote:That didn't stop them from using 'Fight It Out' for Kai TFC. Yeah that explains why they got a completely new OP. Anyway I agree Vic is the best singer FUNi have, his Dragon Soul was the best of that lot and his "Bit by bit" from GT was also pretty good too!simtek34 wrote:Because Fight it Out and Never Give Up! were only made in English, for what we know, since the Kai Buu arc wasn't going to be in Japan at all.Scsigs wrote:That didn't stop them from using 'Fight It Out' for Kai TFC. Good to know you can use "retarded" in this forum to call something stupid. Certainly not how it works over at Ranger Board.Noah wrote:Kind of a retarded name, they could keep simple was Divine energy, God energy or why God Ki is so hard?
Also, "God Ki" is so hard because the terminology has been established as "energy" since day 1. Since it's its actual translation in English, it's not like that's a bad thing.

Nope. It's sort of confusing. The show uses "Energy", the games use "Ki" even though when FUNi dubs the games, they still say energy, and the Viz manga uses "Chi". Close, but not close enough.Noah wrote:They never used the term "Ki" in the English dub?Scsigs wrote:Also, "God Ki" is so hard because the terminology has been established as "energy" since day 1. The only game I remember them explicitly saying "ki" in dialogue was that terrible DBZ: Sagas game & even then, only in the tutorial.Dragon Ball Gus wrote:Which is weird because they do say "ki" in the video games.simtek34 wrote:Nope.
