I'm not even really fond of what I've seen so far related to this movie yet I keep visiting this thread out of strong morbid curiousity. Right now it feels like it'll be a train wreck character-wise. (The special effects'll probably be ok.) This movie is my gossip magazines.
Dragonball Movie Update! What is UP with this?
As of the moment, I totally agree with it causing an uproar and that we should sticky this thread.

People can say this movie is going to suck all they want, but the truth is even if it looks nothing close to what the manga/anime did for this part of the story it's still possible for it to be a good movie. Unless your completely close minded to anything that isn't "canon" with this movie, you can take this movie for what it is and try to look at it unbiased and then critique it. I don't think this movie was ever intended to be a direct transition from the anime to a theater screen, but rather taking the basic ideas of a great story and building around that to make it into something completely new. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't let previous knowledge of the story blind your ability to view this movie fairly on it's own right, which is a right seperate from the anime.

I'm not an X-Files fan, but last night I watched a few episodes that James Wong (the writer-director for dragonball) made, and I was impressed.
I can see why X-Files fans say the show owes Wong a lot of credit, since the writing, I thought, was witty, sharp, and very suspenseful. The show doesn't have a lot of action scenes which I think is to Wong's advantage. Story > action.

Can you even have an opinion on a movie that you haven't seen any clips from yet? Can anyone? It's been almost 60 pages of this crap. I don't think it would bother me so much if we actually had some clips or a trailer. But saying a movie is going to suck based on a few posters? This movie is going to stink, I can already tell.
Just by looking at the cast and the promotional posters, it seems to be on the same level of suckiness as "Fantastic Four".

Dragonball/Z have been treated pretty shabbily by American companies for a long time now. The manga (to a lesser extent) and the anime. Skepticism is to be expected.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Can you even have an opinion on a movie that you haven't seen any clips from yet? Can anyone? It's been almost 60 pages of this crap. Yeah well you have skepticism and then you have super critical pessimism/cynicism....
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

Even based on trailers and commercials you can't determine how a movie will be.For example, the movie Pineapple Express was portrayed in the commercials completely different from how it actually was. BTW the movie was terrible if anybody was thinking of seeing it.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Can you even have an opinion on a movie that you haven't seen any clips from yet? Can anyone? Raki said: I just don't want to be ashamed to be a Dragonball fan afterwards.
Seriously ? From what I've seen Dragon Ball doesn't really get a lot of respect nowadays. People always say "All they do is yell and stare at each other for 5 episodes and the characters have no personality and the plot is always: powerful dude shows up and the main characters just get strings of special power up to keep up with the powerful bad guy dude."
So really even if the movie is bad it won't exactly be devastating to the reputation of Dragon Ball because it already isn't respected much anymore. I don't feel this way but I'm just saying how it is from the different people I've talked to. People act like the movie is going to change everything but its not. It's gonna come out, make some money, disappear, and then show up on DVD. That's it. We'll still have the manga, anime, games, and whatever we hold dear as fans. The movie won't change my opinion on Mr. Toriyama or his work in anyway at all. Who cares what other people think anyway ?

That is exactly how it came off in the trailers. So I guess you can tell sometimes.SSJ2bardock wrote: BTW the movie was terrible if anybody was thinking of seeing it.

I actually thought the trailers were moderately funny, ( hence why I went to see the movie ) but the movie itself was terrible.Herms wrote:That is exactly how it came off in the trailers. As my second biggest fandom is Harry Potter, I'm spoiled when it comes to having a director that reads the source material and attempts keep the story as close as possible, without running over time. I expected DB would get lesser treatment, but still, so far I'm still not impressed.Chrono Trigger wrote:Yeah well you have skepticism and then you have super critical pessimism/cynicism.... Sad

Oh right, I didn't see that, I just copied all of the ones that appeared before DB on the List of 20th Century Fox movies.JAPPO wrote:Except all those came out AFTER Dragonball. The Time Traveller wrote:I'm guessing...Chuquita wrote:Anyone know if there's any upcoming movies that could potentially hold the trailer?
