Guys, I'm going to be straight with you. If you feel the show has gotten 'silly' ... it hasn't. You're just 'too old for this shit'. Seriously, 95% of the people in those boards do not fit the target demographic of the show, so don't expect the show to be 'everything you hoped for'. I'm referring to the people here who expect Super to be rich with dark moments, serious storytelling, meaningful characters etc etc. It won't. It's a show for kids. A show for kids being kids. Everyone in those boards has a manchild in him/her, clamoring to get out, and that's fine. But having unrealistic expectations (such as believing the show grew up alongside you) is naïve at best. Honestly, do you take seriously a story where the supposed God of Destruction halts his urges to blow up stuff in order to eat ice cream sundae? That's the show's silliness at full force, take it for what it is. The show hasn't matured one bit, so don't expect it too. Again, I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I'm saying *that* is DB and always will be.

Calling it Saiyan God would've helped with a lot of confusion towards super Saiyan blue.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

One thing that's always interested me: do Dragon Ball's voice actors get support from international home video releases? Do international/dubbing actors (English ones aside, of course) get anything from home video sales & TV airings? How does this work for secondhand dubs, which are not based on the original but a different version (in early English DB's case, the Mexican dub, & in Hindi dub's case, the FUNi dub)?
I do know that the Ocean dubs, despite all being union (Blue Water aside), didnt have this sort of payment in the contracts - meaning the sales didnt affect VAs - even for prelay jobs. FUNi's work is all non-union & I've said my stance on that - just curious as to how other countries treat this issue. Did (ex:) Mario Castañeda get anything for the FUNi dub airing? Were non-English dubs unionized projects? Did, even, Nozawa & co., make money on FUNi's dub-only releases? This is all interesting & I wonder if some folks are interested in this.
(I should probably ask the same about animators, though I have a sinking feeling they arent paid anything of the sort, especially overseas).
Is it possible for an overload or lack of dead people period to "break the universe"?
I imagine the latter would cause considerable problems since the DB afterlife largely hinges on reincarnating the soul over and over again, meaning there'd be no life if no one was dead to reincarnate.

Absolute Zamasu(my name for their fusion) wins. He fulfils his utopia and dwells in his loneliness(x amount of time for this to happen). He starts to doubt of his achievements, Goku's body influences him to seek out challenges but there's nothing. Perfection becomes a curse. Absolute Zamasu starts to dread his existence and presents himself to the Omni-King, detailing on his actions.
Using his powers the Omni-King restores everything to the moment before Goku and Vegeta perish, humanity's last barrier. Zamasu concedes. He ask for forgiveness(mainly to Goku, Gowasu and Trunks) and understands that his justice isn't justice at all. He asks for judgement and the Omni-King delivers.
Trunks is forced never to travel in time ever again, all the time-machines are destroyed.
In episode 266 of Gintama, there is a character who looks almost exactly like Piccolo & there's a symbolic reference to Piccolo kills Raditz scene in early Z-era. I was intrigued to this show by the recently released Ocean Group dub (funded by CR, produced under Shueisha & tiffako, who resides in Japan & works with the Japanese producers over there), & I just noticed something: They actually got Scott McNeil to voice that character. It's a nice reference, & possibly also a subtle jab/joke on the fact that there own official dub of Kai wouldn't be released...which is probably why that "homage" casting was allowed in the first place. That said...I began to wonder, did Toshio Furukawa voice this character in the Japanese VO? It sounds not quite the same, but a pretty good impression of him.
A friend tipped me off that it was likely another actor who'd already been credited for a different character - my thoughts go to Sugita himself, who took on Furukawa's role as Shin in Fist of the North Star in a recent video game. Who do you think it sounds like?
Does anybody know or have any screenshots for if the Dragon Ball Season packs that were discussed in this thread viewtopic.php?f=7&t=15245 were multiple in one box similar to DBZ and Kai?

The best way to fix the giant cancer that is the DB Wiki is to provide an alternative for those who really want it. Even those who prefer dub names will wind up looking things up on the Kanzenshuu Wiki. Because sooner or later, they're going to need information they know they can trust.

So, how much is the casts recklessness tied to them being genre savvy and knowing they've always got a way to BS their way to victory with two sets of Dragon Ball? And would them losing these advantages make them be more cautious or would a disaster have to strike first before they realized "Oh shit.... We can't just handwave this away...."

It's not a perfect analogy, but the point is if you don't have a safety net, you're less likely to do risky things. Perhaps a better example is not having your parents pay your bills and bailing you out of trouble no matter what.
In bareknuckle boxing you don't have the padding protecting your hand, so and your opponent will throw more punches. While you won't break your hand, chances are the repeated blows to the head will cause long term brain damage.

I'm going to have to be honest, besides Goku who was always reckless even without the dragon balls. Nearly all of their recklessness is tied too the dragon balls. I'd even argue that the best thing to do is to just simply get the dragon ball's out of the picture. I'd imagine that would actually make the cast a tad more pragmatic, and cautious.
Was Freeza really the strongest in the Universe (7)? Cause if we consider that a universe has 4 galaxies (North, East, South and West), Freeza could be the strongest in the North Galaxy, but Beerus who's the Hakaishin of the whole universe was impressed someone has defeated him, pretty much emphasizing Freeza has this title.
But what about Dabura? He doesn't count because he belongs to the Demon Realm or that Dabura just got stronger than Freeza after Babidi's Mind Control?

Wait, what? You're overthinking this in my opinion. I don't think the Ocean Kai situation had anything to do with that casting choice. Scott played Piccolo for many years, and was the original English voice of the character. Since he was a part of the English cast for Gintama, naturally they got him to do that cameo role.
I'm also curious why you think that homage casting wouldn't have been allowed. The only legal issue would have been use of Funimation's attack name (Special Beam Cannon) hence the use of "Special Beam Attack" instead.

Dabura doesn't count, just like the Kaioshins and Buu don't count. Those are special beings that exist or existed outside of the normal, mortal space of the universe. Freeza, unlike Dabura and the Kaioshins, was just a mortal, regular being, and, in that category, he was the strongest in universe 7.

Well, contractually you can only record a certain character for a certain company. Otherwise I'm almost certain that the Japanese crew would've gotten Toshio to reprise as well.

Well technically it's not Piccolo he's recording for so it probably doesn't count. The character is drawn with one antenna presumably as some sort of legal loophole to get around the issue of infringing Piccolo's likeness. I don't even think the he's given the name Piccolo at any point either. I'm no legal expert but if it's gotten this far I think it's safe to assume the legal teams in both Japan and the US are in agreement that the scene is parody and thus fair use.
As for the Japanese version, I don't have an answer for that. It could've been anything from an issue of schedule to budget reasons or maybe Furukawa simply wasn't interested. Scott McNeil has recorded Piccolo for more than one company already so his contract might be more relaxed than Sabat's or Furukawa's.
