For FUNimation to use anything other than "Mr. Satan" in their Dragon Ball Z Kai dub, would be incorrect. Be it "Hercule" or "Mark". I don't prefer/want either of them to be used in said dub because they're both wrong. If you put a gun to my head though, then I'd have to pick "Mark".

Nobody has considered that because it is a religious joke. Him and his daughter both have satanic names. Videl is devil rearranged and Mark is Maaku rearranged.

Even if it wasn't a religious joke, it doesn't change the fact that his name is Mr. Satan. Nobody would get away with that on a childrens' network in America. No matter what the context/origin/reference.

lol I can picture them pausing the show every time they're about to say his name and saying, "The following name is not a religious joke. Please note that this is only an ironic pun for the world's greatest savior being sneaky, tricky, and not much of a hero at all. Please don't sue us."

I'm like 99.999% sure they're going to go with the H-word. No reason for them not to. It's in all the video games and the website, etc.

I am not a fan for the whole Mark thing. I mean who decided to name him that? It wasn't in the Manga, wasn't in the Anime, didn't exist for the longest time. I think they just wanted to give him a first name to get people to stop asking about it since it's Mr. Satan. Had he just been called Satan, everything would be fine. On that note, why didn't they ever get a first name for Dr. and Mrs. Brief?

That's what I get for trying to post on 2 hours of sleep...And contextually, it really does depend on the network, as little stuff like this doesn't necessarily affect the ratings outside of what they choose. The FCC won't get mad at them for the use of that word, most likely.

I still stand by Mr. Satin <_<

Mark is supposed to be Akuma rearranged and turned into an actual name. Maaku is how the Japanese would pronounce Mark. I'm guessing you knew this, just had a brain fart.

And I agree with the rest of what you said.

Has there been any sort of news on Jimmy Firecracker? I know it's just the Dub name, but he was one of my favorite characters EVER.

That would be Akira Toriyama, the creator of the series! It didn't come out of nowhere, either. In 2004's Dragon Ball Forever guide book, Toriyama menioned that Mr. Satan was just a stage name. Then, in the second Super Exciting Guide, he was asked what exactly his real name was. Toriyama said it was "Mark." (ma-a-ku, which is an anagram of a-ku-ma, or "devil." Pretty clever.)

By the way, I noticed that somebody said earlier that that name pun was a bit of a stretch, but it really isn't at all. It's the same line of thinking as devil-->Videl.

Well he's certainly not going to be called that in the English dub of Kai. Lol.

Then I shall hold onto the old Dub for as long as possible, 'Jimmy Firecracker' is like my favorite name of all time.

You silly little leprechaun, you. Lol.

*Sigh* As much as I want something more accurate than Hercule, I know we're going to get it anyways. :( At least the BDs and DVDs will use Mr Satan. :D

Aside from this forum, all my other online tags/icons have been 'Jimmy Firecracker'.

I don't really see them just popping Mark in there but I'm on the fence about Hercule or Mr. Satan on the tv version, we know the home release will surely have it right.

Nothing against anyone on this forum but I'm SERIOUSLY sick of soccer moms and parents in 'this day and age' where they are just soooooo worried about their kids seeing a bit of blood or someone getting punched or heaven forbid they hear a 'swear word'.

They have the internet and cable; I promise you they have seen and heard far worse.

All of humanity mindlessly chanting "SATAN SATAN SATAN" is a bit beyond that. I mean, I'm not a hardass religious type, and that scene in movie 9 still made my skin crawl.

I know but 2004 is sooo far away from the series that it's silly to really call him that. That's not what his name was in the series, ever.

I always thought that "Mark" was a pun on his whole entertaining wrestler-like gimmick, where "mark" is a term used for fans that think it's real and such.

He actually didn't even reveal the name until 2009, so that's even later on! :D But no, it's clearly stated in the Super Exciting Guide that "Mark" comes from "akuma." I think it's a good joke. And it's a fun bit of trivia for the fans, so can ya really blame them for using it as a little nickname for old Mr. Satan?

Yeah, I'd say it's important to note we learn "Mr. Satan" is a stage name before he gave away his actual name.

A whole five years prior to learning the name, too. He obviously didn't pull it out of his ass on the spot.

He didn't pull him having a stage name out of his ass on the spot. Who's to say he had anything planned there, and didn't just give himself a little sticky note to come up with something before the next time they do a book?
