In any case, looking forward to getting it in two weeks from Amazon. I am a patient man and the free delivery day shipping is always good. Amazon Prime FTW!
That is ironic coming from you. But seriously you are my Japanese DBZ Dragonbox hero! Thanks.

I would say this shot in particular really shows how aged the film is. Look at Gohan's hair, it's almost become a shade of red. Of course I would say that is preferred to crushed blacks, but this isn' too pleasing either.
Actually the entire image is sort of reddish

I you apply a reverse color filter in Photoshop, this is what you get

*snip*

And she does look a little more red than everyone else.
Thanks.

They are incorrect and not how they originally looked. This is the fact that Toei confirmed. You have to refer to the colour coordinations or the cels to check the original colours.
Yeah, when looking at an original cel of the scene, the colors look way off:

Is this difference entirely attributed to aging or did Toei actually do some altering to the colors for the Dragon Box release?

This is from what I remember and what was on my vhs tapes, yea can totally say it's shifted to the read Can still be properly remastered though.

I certainly don't remember the kid under gohan with red hair, it was totally brown!

I don't have time to remaster it right now but this is going in the right direction, totally going to have fun with this when my set arrives Tuesday.

...Now you've made it look like the... what was it? The Arabic release of Dragon Ball? The one with the green haze?

When removing the color casts on the Dragon Box footage, never do it on blacks or else that's what you get. It's best to do it on whites, which gives the effect the filter's intended for, like so:

It's a bit subtle, but comparing them side by side shows that it is overall an improvement.

Here's a comparison image I made using "bands" of each image so that you can compare the colors throughout certain portions of the image to see the differences more clearly. Footage is labeled accordingly:

At the scene where everyone is surprised by Goku turning Super Saiyan during the Anoyoichi Tournament.

Image

Broli, why are you so surprised? You're a Super Saiyan right now!

And hey Tori-bot and two Freeza henchmen.

I understand, twas a quickie. Plus that was nothing more of a mask that'd be used to correct the colors, and still using the original as a forground. Would be allot easier if I had access to film.

The guy on bottom right looks familiar... I think it's the protagonist from Kajika manga

Looks more like one of the Dragon Quest characters I reckon. Kajika came out after DB finished.

Also, MORE!

It's Super Saiyan Tori-bot!
A Coola Henchman!
Ackman from Go! Go! Ackman!
And Android 14!

The guy from before that suspiciously looks like Chrono leads me to believe the frog is... uhh... Frog.

Subtitles call him Furog but that's close enough.

Dragon Ball had a load of strange cameos like the Stay Puft Marshmallow man from Ghost Busters, it's cool seeing so many characters randomly littering the background.

Nah, not the fighter in the tournament, but the frog dude in the audience there.

Olivue, Torbee, Malaiko and Tapica are in that shot too (pan) so that has to be the same Frog/Furog.

The guy with the sword with the purple mushroom style haircut looks like a mini version of Trunks. These images from the audience are great.

Dude in the second cap is clearly Gohan if he kept training under Piccolo without any of Goku's influence for a few more years :P
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Also, this is me grasping at straws, I FOUND FREEZA! AND HE'S GREEN WITH ENVY?!

Oh, I never read that manga or knew about it so I didn't know you meant it looked like Ackman. They do look alike though.

Green Freeza is a great find.
