Re: Goku is officially the worst character in this show
I know this but Chi-Chi's upbringing is relatively normal compared to Goku's (minus her father being a warlord) and her concept of love is based on media so she has to know kissing is (the fact she even knows about marriage should be telling). Unless she never made any moves (which I seriously doubt), there's no way Goku can't know.Doctor. wrote:Yes, he's been married for 20 years (most of the time he's either been training or dead) with another country bumpkin because she basically forced him to. Chi-Chi herself probably also doesn't even know what kissing is, she's a country gal.
Goku was sorry for attracting bad guys but nobody held him accountable to begin with and he's far from the only one to blame (unlike with the tournament). I would give it them but we're 3 episodes deep and Goku has yet to show genuine regret. Also, going by Super's HUGE wastes of opportunities in the past... it might not happen. He was only sorry for the consequences at the end of the arc, when he died. Give this arc some time, will you? I very much doubt they're setting up all this shit for it not to be addressed.

The fact you went after me, a mere bystander, of all people tells me you're at least a little uspet. Why? I'm not offended or upset, I'm engaging in a discussion.
Most of the time...?!Goku isn't an asshole on purpose either. He's an asshole on accident most of the time.
Using SSJ3 was taking away time from his day off as it was so going full power then and there probably would have left him with barely enough time to do anything let alone teach the Fusion Dance. King Kai even agreed what Goku did there was the best course of action.Yes, and if he really wanted to minimize the number of deaths as you say, then he would have killed Boo right there then teach them the dance. He didn't want to minimize the number of deaths, he simply didn't care if anyone died because he could wish them back. Hell, when he fights Majin Boo and his Kamehameha is deflected, killing one tenth of the population (according to Babidi), Goku also doesn't seem to care.
Only if it's necessary for the greater good. When Goku and Vegeta became Vegetto, he (and Vegeta) came up with a plan to purposely act like an arrogant jackass to provoke Majin Boo into absorbing him so he can rescue Gohan, Piccolo, and the kids.Goku doesn't care if someone dies as long as the prospect of being revived exists, as demonstrated above.
It kinda does if he's called out for not caring and has to be told to take responsibility.Boo Machine wrote:Except the point is centered around the use of the word sociopath. And being goaded doesn't take away the other acts of caring.
I agree to the point of Goku maybe should have had a little more reflection of his actions. But even then I can't say for sure because who knows what the future episodes will do. But having a serious Goku is only fun when shit hits the fan. I realize this might qualify as shit hitting fan, but it's only 3 episodes into the arc. Having Goku be stuck in serious mode now would take all the fun out of the character. Then he would be boring.
Goku being battle-craved 24/7 is just as boring as serious Goku 24/7 especially with how much Super plays up that aspect of his character.
No, that doesn't he isn't dangerous (Krillin even said Vegeta is very unpredictable) and at any rate, he could become a valuable asset to the team. I'm not denying it's selfish and dumb on Goku's part but I'm disagreeing that it's comparable to the tournament especially because there is no guarantee people will die and Goku is far from the only suspect.Yes...now. But, again, you tried to use Vegeta as a reason they couldn't hunt Gero. Because he is really dangerous and might kill his friends. But now he has no concern with anything except surpassing Goku? Which would mean he ISNT dangerous and they COULD have hunted Gero. But it doesn't even matter, because if Vegeta is dangerous, then Goku can take care of him and they should have hunted Gero if they were so worried about the future. If Vegeta is not dangerous then they have nothing to worry about and they can still hunt Gero. Vegeta is barely a factor here because in either case he is dead or where he ended up. Training by himself anyway. The point of this whole part of the discussion was to see if Goku was selfish and dumb to not stop the android threat prematurely. Which, in either situation with Vegeta, is a major yes.
But he has yet to show genuine regret for even starting the tournament. Then Goku has shown clear signs of having a conscience. I wouldn't even buy it practically. Saying he did implies that he was for the tournament even knowing it had a death penalty to end all death penalties. Which isn't true. And you acknowledged that.
It doesn't... but him NOT knowing what kissing is just shows what kind of "man" he is.I'm not going to get into the whole "is Gokus marriage a happy one" because that is way too deep for Dragonball. That may go for most of our discussion, but still. The point here is, Kissing is not a determining factor in someones ability to function in society. If Goku is having trouble fitting in, then, again, it's because he is from an alien race that likes to punch things that was raised in the woods (and if you want you can even throw in the whole "Dropped on his head" thing as well). Not because of his lack of lip skills.
I'm well-aware it's a joke but it doesn't make it any less shit because it's filled with unfortunate implications and makes Goku look bad. Again, Goku suggests pregnancy is a woman's dilemma and they should deal with it on their own (he says Vegeta shouldn't care because he isn't the one pregnant). What Vegeta is doing... I dunno, but the fact he made it on his word to be there for her is definitely something. How was it implied he wasn't there for Chi Chi? The only thing I can think of is the "Looks like you ate too much" joke. Which at best is a dumb joke by Goku and at worst just Goku being too much of an idiot to pick it up right away. It doesn't "imply" anything unless you just want to overthink a dumb joke. With Goten. Yeah, he wasn't there. Death has a way of holding up people from obligations. Even with Vegeta being there, what exactly is Vegeta doing that's so much better. He is there. But thats about it. Because Goku just "Being around" doesn't make him a good family man to a lot of people. Does hanging around count for anything or not? Because that's currently all vegeta is doing.
Oh yeah, I forgot about Goten. Goku even casually brings up the fact he was dead when Goten was born......... I think I'm gonna be sick.
Just stop it. I never said Goku should drop everything to be around Bulma... but Goku pretty much told Vegeta (her husband) to ditch Bulma, which is why I said he didn't seem to care.I'm making too much of this? The only reason I'm even discussing this at all is because you imply sociopathy and really "dark implications" to Goku choosing not to drop everything he is doing to hang around bulma. Otherwise I would have never given it a second thought. Like I'm sure most people wouldnt have. And Kanassa makes a good point. Goku stayed and chatted a bit with bulma. They just talked, it was nice. He even offered some of his food for Whis. Yes, he forgot it was for Whis, but still his first thought was to give away his training tokens to bulma to be nice. Goten had to tell him to keep them. It may not be most supportive man in the world material. But he still shows some support. He could have just spent the whole time with Vegeta, or in the yard getting ready for training.
He can also just train with Vegeta in the yard.
It's directed towards Super... the thing you and Doctor. should be mad at for encouraging the harmful mindsets people have throughout the fandom instead of me.I'm unsure what his is about or even if it's directed at me.

So now we're just going into the realm of assumptions. Goku's an alien, both of them had pretty trashy childhoods compared to most people, and Chi-Chi is a prude. It's one thing not to like it, but this is completely believable.DBZAOTA482 wrote:I know this but Chi-Chi's upbringing is relatively normal compared to Goku's (minus her father being a warlord) and her concept of love is based on media so she has to know kissing is (the fact she even knows about marriage should be telling). Refresh my memory, because this part of the Boo arc is a bit hazy to me, but didn't Goku use SS3 first and only then did he teach the fusion dance to the kids? It's likely that, if he loses, the Omni-king would just erase U7 because Goku disappointed him, so he absolutely cannot afford to lose. Thus, winning the tournament would be for the greater good because he'd revive everyone anyway. I'm working on assumptions here, of course, but you too don't have much of a leg to stand on since you're basing your argument off of an episode summary and two titles.Only if it's necessary for the greater good. It's also good to add that the summary in question IN NO WAY talks about how Goku reacts, just the stakes of his fight. So, this:Doctor. wrote: but you too don't have much of a leg to stand on since you're basing your argument off of an episode summary and two titles.
Is being extremely dishonest.A spoiler for Episode 81 reveals Goku would rather let the 11 universes get destroyed then accept losing so... not really.

Well that's all I'm trying to get at. It's dumb and selfish on both situation and both aren't 100% Gokus fault. You're right. But if he is allowed to show regret at a latter time in situations like letting Vegeta go, then I say we should wait to see what the rest of this arc brings instead of throwing the word sociopath at any character that doesn't line up with what we believe a normal person would do.
Yeah. An alien one. And idiotic one. Not a sociopath. It doesn't... but him NOT knowing what kissing is just shows what kind of "man" he is.
It implies nothing unless you overthink it, and Goku suggests nothing of the sort. Bulma has a ton of people to help her. Something Goku can see for himself when he enters the building. He didn't say Vegeta shoudlnt care. He just asked why it matter if he is there. Which again, just makes him an idiot. Does Vegeta being there mean something? Why is the Goten thing a big deal. It wasn't a new revelation. It's something we knew. He wasn't there. Because death. I hope you're not holding death against Goku. And so what if he brought it up so casually. What do you expect him to do? Get sombre and regretful? What would that do, or even prove in that situation? It would change nothing. He stated a fact. That's it.
I'd be happy to stop it. But you keep using that point as some kind of reason that makes goku to seem like a sociopath. Which is just reaching. Vegeta doesn't want to train. That's the whole point. If he did want to train. He would be in the gravity room.
Super doesn't encourage anything that wasn't already apart of Gokus character. Those "memes" you spoke of already existed way before Super was a thing, and for a reason. It exaggerates or doesn't present some of Gokus traits very well, but it doesn't make Goku a different character. So there is nothing to be mad at besides some bad writing. It's directed towards Super... the thing you and Doctor. should be mad at for encouraging the harmful mindsets people have throughout the fandom instead of me.
But again, the whole point is Goku is not a sociopath, and as I've said, trying to make him out to be one is probably one of the silliest things I've seen Dragonball fans do.

Was it after the Zamasu arc when the Zen'os met? Because a Trunks came from a future where the universe wasn't destroyed but according to the new information that universe would have definitely been on the chopping block based on ranking.

He's not wildly different but he's definitely flanderized and I don't see how you can deny this.
The tournament is 100% on Goku. He was warned by Beerus and Whis not to associate with Zeno but he ignored them and give Zeno the idea of the tournament anyways. Even if he didn't plan on having everyone die, he still initiated the entire event.

He shouldn't sulk or brood about it yes, but he shouldn't be all cheerful when telling Vegeta he was death. He should simply try to maintain his innocence which is actually more in character.

Yes, and the reason is that the haters aren't people worth speaking to at all. It certainly encourages the stigma that Goku is some mentally challenged person (even though he's not) or some selfish asshole manchild who barely gives a shit about his family while Vegeta is so much better despite the two having practically the same priorities in the original series.Super doesn't encourage anything that wasn't already apart of Gokus character. The blatant lack of profession and quality effort, which even Toriyama publicly complained about, is definitely to be mad aboutIt exaggerates or doesn't present some of Gokus traits very well, but it doesn't make Goku a different character. So there is nothing to be mad at besides some bad writing.

Goku still had plenty of powers in reserves with SSJ3. In fact, he never showed his true strength till the fight with Kid Boo but he underestimated how much ki SSJ3 would drain. Now you're just over complicating things. Goku is supposed to be a character you root for and nobody wants to root for him when he's being even more of an uncaring asshole than usual. It's not cathartic to see Goku being an asshole, it's annoying. And don't ever even compare something like DBS Goku to a well written character like Shinji. There's no comparison.Just as one wants to see Ikari Shinji happy*, one wants to see him suffer. One wants to see him act out on all his negative emotions until finally he has destroyed and killed everything. This is why the 1997 film Shin Seiki Evangelion Gekijou-ban: Ea/Magokoro o, Kimi ni is so cathartic. Re: Goku is officially the worst character in this show
I'm pretty sure other gods would still berate Goku for the tournament.Cipher wrote:If Goku's let off the hook for this, it's going to be a massive letdown, narratively.
Implicating him in the choice to hold the tournament was the most interesting thing about this whole setup.
You do realize that Goku's not entirely responsible for the tournament and that this was gonna happen regardless.TekTheNinja wrote:Goku is supposed to be a character you root for and nobody wants to root for him when he's being even more of an uncaring asshole than usual. It's not cathartic to see Goku being an asshole, it's annoying.

Re: Goku is officially the worst character in this show
I don't deny it. That's why I say multiple times his characteristics are exaggerated. But glad to see we're on the same page that it's the same character then.DBZAOTA482 wrote: He's not wildly different but he's definitely flanderized and I don't see how you can deny this.
He is responsible for the tournament happening but not for the rules. Sharing partial blame is fair. Not the whole thing because, again, there are many other instances caused by him in the original and very rarely do I see people place the blame on him alone. The tournament is 100% on Goku. He was warned by Beerus and Whis not to associate with Zeno but he ignored them and give Zeno the idea of the tournament anyways. Even if he didn't plan on having everyone die, he still initiated the entire event.
Vegeta is also clearly smarter than Goku and has a different developed character. So yeah. Goku is an idiot. Again, glad to see where on the same page.Vegeta is just as much of an alien and he know what kissing is so "idiotic" is putting things lightly. More like retarded, at best.
Support by staying as far away from her as possible while still being within eye sight. Man of the year. Fair enough with the video. But like I said. It just shows Goku nature of not getting social norms. The fact Vegeta chose to support Bulma when she's pregnant instead of going off training somewhere is the thing and he did say Vegeta shouldn't care.
What does "Maintain his innocence" even mean? He just stated a fact. A pretty funny fact given where he is now. Not many people can say they were dead for their childs birth but at least they're here now.He shouldn't sulk or brood about it yes, but he shouldn't be all cheerful when telling Vegeta he was death. He should simply try to maintain his innocence which is actually more in character.
You said you could see why people would call Goku a sociopath and I disagreed that, that was even a reasonable thought. Thus the birth of a discussion that went on for days. And that's it. A discussion. No need to back off because I'm not attacking you. I'm just confused by your logic. But you're accusing me of calling Goku a sociopath when I never did so you should back off and questioning why Vegeta would even stay is not being an idiot... it's being a fucking asshole.
You're right. It is being an asshole. Goku can be an asshole. And you don't think he is a sociopath. So for the 3rd time, glad we're on the same page.
Haters are very much worth speaking to. They have a perspective you might not and it's kind of fun to learn them. So it basically encourages the traits that Goku is known for but exaggerated them in a way fans don't appreciate? Like I've been saying. This is a really good page. I'm liking it a lot.Yes, and the reason is that the haters aren't people worth speaking to at all. It certainly encourages the stigma that Goku is some mentally challenged person (even though he's not) or some selfish asshole manchild who barely gives a shit about his family while Vegeta is so much better despite the two having practically the same priorities in the original series.
Fair. The blatant lack of profession and quality effort, which even Toriyama publicly complained about, is definitely to be mad about

Re: Goku is officially the worst character in this show
Two cosiderations.
One. So Zeno had already decided that he was gonna erase universes 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 11. Goku reminding Zeno about the tournament has really given a chance to at least one of them and probably more. Unpredictable was for the better in this case, Goku did good.
Two. What a selfish, asshole, sociopath is Gohan, knowing how unpredictable is Zeno and the menace of erasing universes, he puts his pride over this and refuses to take a senzu bean. He would have won easily with it, he almost loosed. This are the standards of some people here, not mine. Well done, Gohan!

Agree'd, Gohan's a fcking sociopath, we are talking about entertaining the midgets that are out to destroy our universe, and he dares fight a battle without using a senzu that can utmost guarantee his sure victory? Gohan's a fcking idiot, 2nd worst character like ever.Basako wrote: Two. Gohan is officially the new worst character of this show, I can't believe they're focusing on a sociopath like him.
