"Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
A Simuldub would be awesome. I could see Toei allowing them to do whatever they want as long as it has a TV deal.
With many other regions airing multiple episodes a week, Toei ideally would like Funi not too far behind.
If Funi were to produce a Simuldub, there is no law saying they have to continue.
It could possibly be that they would do the Universe Survival Arc and then take a break, and start dubbing again a few weeks later down the line, dub a few episodes together, and continue that way.
If this Arc is the final one, then I'm going to be hugely disappointed.

Starring Star was not dubbed which makes me feel like there was some confusion as to if the songs could be dubbed or not and I guess they can't be

To nobody's surprise Starring Star played in Japanese. I think we'll have the Japanese songs from here on out. Sad to say that dubbed songs are a thing of the past.

^Yeah, the only possible explanation is that they're simply not allowed to redo songs anymore, which was undeniably proven when the first ED reverted back to the original version. Still, I don't really see anything to complain about. I think we should be grateful that we most likely aren't missing out on any themes entirely.

Next week's episode of Dragon Ball Super (In Japan) will be featuring the return of Android 17. Who else cannot wait until that episode gets dubbed so we hear our good pal, Chuck Huber as 17 again?

I'm excited too! But at least we will hear Chuck return for No. 17 in DBKTFC, even though its one line.Dragon Ball Gus wrote:Next week's episode of Dragon Ball Super (In Japan) will be featuring the return of Android 17. Slightly disappointing, but at least we're getting the Japanese songs as opposed to the "Engrish" versions like in Battle of Gods and 'F'.DB_Fan1991 wrote:To nobody's surprise Starring Star played in Japanese. Well, that's Toei's policy to prevent piracy, or reverse importation amongst their Japanese fanbase. Realistically, though, is an English version mixed into where the original was on the Japanese audio really gonna stop people from doing that? It certainly wouldn't stop ME if I were forced to resort to those means for one of MY favorite shows &/or movies.Footlong Shoe wrote:Slightly disappointing, but at least we're getting the Japanese songs as opposed to the "Engrish" versions like in Battle of Gods and 'F'.DB_Fan1991 wrote:To nobody's surprise Starring Star played in Japanese. Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

Another terrific performance by Schemmel and Douglas!! But the episode itself sucked, the movie infinitely handled this specific part well no contest.

Yup! I honestly can't remember my original thoughts been so long, but yeah re-watching this again they wasted time on the un-interesting Satan and Earth things they dipped in and out the fight was way too detracting and then the whole SSG ending and reverting happened so bleh compared to the movie, but the small bits of action we had were solid so that's something also Yamamuro's only supervised episode thus far and I like his polished work time to time and I still liked it here.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:Episode 13, was it? My problem with that episode visually is that while the stills all look nice due to Yamamuro's corrections, the movement leaves so much to be desired (which is basically the first 3 arcs in a nutshell).Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Yup! Don't you think that would be on Kanzenshuu's front page if it were confirmed? Also, I doubt we're getting a simuldub, Schemmel didn't even record for the BoG Arc until just a couple of months before it aired, there's no way he's caught up even on the off chance that the others are.Noah wrote:So it is confirmed Super will get a simuldub?

Probably not, because that would have zero relation to the series' production or distribution in its original Japanese language.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:Don't you think that would be on Kanzenshuu's front page if it were confirmed?
But yeah, I don't ever see a Dragon Ball simuldub happening.

A simuldub is probably not going to happen. People are just going to wait a bit longer for the dub to catch up. Most of you guys had to wait for Funimation to catch up with DBZ, GT and the other movies back in the day and it would be no different now.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
The dub started pre-production in July that we can gather from the the fact Sabat said they recorded edited dialogue, Toonami/AS obviously been uncut means that was far from agreement at that stage, and of course Douglas posting that pic on insta and those pics with Rawly Pickens on twitter who is the ADR engineer and second director after Sabat for Super, Douglas ended up deleting those as well. Someone as Sean recently how much he has recorded so far and he has said a lot, I'd wager he has finished the Freeza arc and is int he midst of U6, Sabat is already discussing the Black arc albeit he did admit it is a long time for them to worry about it but that fact he is already discussing and thinking tells me that U6 arc everything is sorted (translation wise, casting etc) and they've probably just gotta finish recording it.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:Don't you think that would be on Kanzenshuu's front page if it were confirmed? With Toonami being once a week, it is has been 8 months since they started pre prod and we are just now getting the conclusion of the first arc, a simuldub theoretically is a possibility, but I do think logistical problems with the fact Sean and Kyle are out of towners and have prominent roles in this arc is the reason why we won't have one.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
Realistically, all they really need to do is set up time one week or so a month where Sean & Kyle can fly to Texas & knock out a bunch of episodes. Everyone else can be recorded when they're scheduled & able, since the rest of them still live in Texas & regularly do other dubs for FUNi. Since recordings are usually done for 2 hours a day in any given week, if they increase the amount of hours per day to, say, 4, & what scenes exactly that they work on, it could be beneficial if they would want to fast track the dub enough to get close to the current arc. Sabat's a smart director, as he splits up action scenes with a lot of yelling from the regular scenes with regular dialogue so the actors don't blow out their vocal chords prematurely. This could be how they could go about it.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:With Toonami being once a week, it is has been 8 months since they started pre prod and we are just now getting the conclusion of the first arc, a simuldub theoretically is a possibility, but I do think logistical problems with the fact Sean and Kyle are out of towners and have prominent roles in this arc is the reason why we won't have one.
A simuldub would be tough though, seeing as they'd need every main character's actor in Texas to pull it off & Sean & Kyle aren't residents. It would cost FUNi more than they might wanna spend to produce than they already are. If they were to move there, that'd be a different story, but Sean works with a few different companies for dubs in California & 4K Media for Yugioh while Kyle works with Viz for some of their dubs. It'd be better to record more with them when they're in Texas before the others do so they have everything ready to go rather than a simuldub.
