Goku is probably going to lose to Hit which will then lead on to Monaca vs Hit.

I thought Goku was going to fight from the beginning but I guess Vegeta could lose in the 1st half and Goku steps in afterwords or even at the end.

Maybe Goku V Hit ends up in a draw. Monaka showcases his power after the tournament when they travel to the 6th universe, just a guess.

Goku and the gang face off against Universe 6 in a series of martial arts matches with Earth at stake. In the last battle, Goku ends up fighting against Hit, the strongest man in Universe 6...!?

It also notes Super's timeslot of 9 on Sunday mornings on Fuji TV, but doesn't reference any specific episode number or air date for Goku vs Hit. There's also a thing on the side giving a generic description of Goku (a Saiyan who likes to fight strong guys, blah blah). It seems like this is part of some larger article covering several different series.

Kinda, but any tidbit about future events reveals some level of information about what comes before it. With confirmation of Goku vs Hit, now we know for certain that Vegeta is going to lose. Whether that be against Cabba or Hit doesn't really matter too much.

Monaka doesn't have to fight. He could, but there have been plenty of setups the last few episodes hinting he won't be seeing any action, at least during the tournament.

It would be a waste of a character and all the build up as well. If Monaka does not fight how will we find out what Beerus is hiding about him, I doubt we would find out after the tournament.

These suggestions sound worse and worse, a team consisting of Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Monaca and Buu and there's the possibility that not only are the Saiyans going to be the only ones to win but that Buu or Monaca didn't even fight what's so ever?

I like Goku and I like Vegeta but it better not be as Saiyan centric as that.

They should have had Majin Buu take Goku's first role in the tournament by having him beat Botamo and lose to Frost.

So Toriyama's note on Monaka from the Super book turned out to be foreshadowing no Monaka action in this arc afterall, just like I thought.

Despite being a series that mostly revolves around fighting, fighting is not a prerequisite for everything. Goku's been pretty obsessed with Monaka thus far, I'm pretty certain we'll learn what Beerus is hiding about him either way.

If Goku wins even though Monaka can fight, I'm sure he'll still be curious enough about Monaka to inquire about him, giving Beerus a setup for whatever the reveal is (if Monaka doesn't turn out to be the big villain or something). And if Goku loses against Hit and Monaka can't actually fight, then there's a setup for the reveal as well.

From the Super book released when they celebrated the anime's 30 year anniversary earlier this year IIRC.
I don't think they have up it here in Kanzenshuu's translations section, but Herms or another user translated Toriyama's notes on the U6 characters.
Can anyone help?
In any case, paraphrased it was something like: "The strongest person Beerus has ever fought! But will we get to see his power?"

Well I don't think it's been bad but they could have rearranged a few things probably so it went like

Buu vs Botamo
Magetta vs Buu
Magetta vs Piccolo
Vegeta vs Magetta
Vegeta vs Frost

Etc.

Not only that it big fat waste of time to bring piccolo and buu there if there weren't going to do anything important and just have goku and vegeta do all the work.

I could see Mr.Toriyama use Monaka only as a joke, building his status and Goku's curiosity. Just to never have him fight, ever. I would prefer differently but if this outcome comes to fruition, it would also be satisfying. It's exactly what he does best, subvert expectations.
