Ahhh. I always thought "Vegeeta" was an incorrect spelling. I think, in that case, I'll stick with "Taable" for the time being.Acid_Reign wrote:What do you mean? Are you implying that “Vegeeta” is an undesirable, or less-correct spelling?Dayspring wrote:What about "Taable" as a spelling? Or is that like writing "Vegeeta?"
Personally, I find “Vegeeta” to be perfectly acceptable, because the double-e represents a long /i/ sound, in the same manner as “bee” or “see.” The same thing applies to Taable; people generally read character doubling as a lengthening of its sound, and Japanese vowel lengthening is often romanized this way. On the other hand, double-a is a rarer combonation than double-e in modern English, and technically speaking, there’s only one /a/ sound in his name, which is why I suggested the spellings I did.
You could also indicate Vegeta’s name with diacritics (accent marks)—like the acute, as in Vegéta, or the macron, as in Vegēta—though they so rarely occur in English that their pronunciation can often be ambiguous; for instance, Pokémon can be said “Po-keh-mon” (as it is in Japanese), “Po-kee-mon,” or “Po-kay-mon” depending on whom you ask. The macron, too, could throw some people off if they happen to be familiar with Hepburn romanization, which might cause them to think of the “e” as an “eh” rather than an “ee” sound.
For those reasons I would probably stick with the double-e. Whichever spelling provides the least ambiguity is usually the one I’d pick.

Watch FUNi call him either "Taboor" or even "Fitzroy."

Wow. I must really want to see this special badly. I just had a dream that it came on tv, and I think it was the International Channel... Weird thing about it was, it wasn't anything like the sympnosis and I actually though I was awake and it was truely airing on tv. Man was I pissed when I woke up.

Like I said before, TOEI just recycled most of these model sheets from the old ones that they used from the Majin Buu saga. And, yes, they were particularly lazy about the Kuririn one, and the one with Goku supposedly in SSJ form (but with his regular, non-power-up hairstyle). But I guess they figured the key animators didn't need too many specifics since they had senior artists on staff to make corrections anyway.SSJ2bardock wrote:Like the Kuririn sheet that had Goku's body with the head edited out?Kid Trunks wrote:Is it just me or do a lot of those character sheets look fake?

I doubt they'll go for an acurate translation, they'll probably name it after an attack or character in the special like they did for most of the other movies.
At this point I just want them to release it so I can watch the special. TT_TT
(I fear we'll never get to see any of this special on the internet).
Besides as long as they don't play Video Cropping Masters and as long as they have accurate subs, that's all I need.

Well, going off of the previous English titles we've gotten (which are a mix of extremely faithful to sorta faithful to completely made up), I'd guess we'd get something like "The Z-Warriors Return" for the dub. Of course, if FUNi wanted to play up Table a bit, I can see them naming it something like "Arrivial of the Lost Saiyan" or something like that.SSj_Rambo wrote:If FUNimation does ever get around to releasing this over here, what do you guys think they will title it?
But really, like everybody else, the title is the least of my concerns. Of course, if FUNi does release this, they better put something else on the DVD, like a commentary at the very least. I'm not paying full retail for a half-hour of material.

Oh, who am I kidding? Yes I would.
But I won't like it!

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I'd much prefer a commentray from the original staff too, or at the very least, a making-of featurette (I'd ask for a documentary, but I gotta be realistic here.), but at this point, I'm so starved for extras that I'd even take a commentary from FUNi's crew. Truth be told, I actually enjoyed the commantary Chuck Huber and Chris Cason did for movie one (well, to be more precise, I enjoyed it when they were actually giving us behind-the-scenes info on dubbing and not just screwing around talking about non-DragonBall stuff. Christopher Walken impressions are funny and all, but I'd much rather get production info.), and I'd very much enjoy commentary from more important (for lack of a better term) actors like Chris Sabat, Stephanie Nadolny, etc. Though that's probably because the dub doesn't make my ears bleed quite as much as other people here.
Besides, provided FUNi got the right people to talk, I'm sure everyone here would be able to sit through a FUNi staff commentary. Who wouldn't want to listen to Steve Simmons or Clyde Mandelin talk about the show?
