In my opinion here is the main difference over Dragon box and funi singles when deciding what you want: ignore coloring and grain there are pros and cons to each. Focus on what you want. If you want only pure Japanese music even with American voicing then the Dragon Boxes are for you. Period. If you enjoy the Bruce Faulconer score and do not like the American voices with the Japanese music then the Funi singles are the obvious choice. What the Dragon Boxes make up for in having more episodes per disc as well as overall cleaned up pictures it loses in color distortion and music selection so it depends on what you want out of the coloring and music. I personally hate the American cast put to the Japanese musical score and only like the Japanese cast with said music so I picked up the singles as it gives me the 2 versions of the show I want. Also if you want to hear Sabat transition from pyscho evil Vegeta to hero Vegeta you will not get that with the Dragon Boxes as he redid the vast majoirty of his lines during the Namek and Ginyu arc. In Dragon Box 1 and 2 and season 1 and 2 of the orange bricks the whole funimation cast did a new dub for the episodes which was originally done by the ocean group same with some of Sabat's lines in season 3. Hope that helps.
In sum: to me these are the notable differences you should take into consideration:
Dragon Boxes =
Pros:more episodes per disc, less discs, better packaging and a cool booklet per box, cleaner pics, eye catches, correct Japanese intro and exit music, "previously ons" are in English or Japanese depedning on what you select, defaults to Japanese
Cons: but no Bruce Faulconer and English redone dub scenes, season 2 alone will cost you your first born child
Singles =
Pros: generally better coloring and with Bruce Faulconer music as well as Japanese audio with Japanese music, generally less expensive, some discs have cool special features like series recaps, some have next episode previews and "previously ons"
Cons: less episodes per discs, 90 discs (give or take), grainer pics, some English dub scenes should have been redubbed, no English voice with Japanese music, some lack eyecatches depending on which issuing you bought, all of the "previously ons" are only in English, does not have correct Japanese intro and exit music
"You might think you know everything there is to know about me, but really, you're not even CLOSE."
"Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." ~ Sir Winston Chruchill / Dragon Ball Z in a nutshell
