Oh... whoops, I haven't checked Kanzentai since........ January.

Seems like it's gonna be a "What if Bardock Turned Super Saiyan". Even though Bardock's my favorite character in everything, it's not possible for him to turn super saiyan. Power level too low and no pure heart. He only reached the Hatred part.

Think it's more of a power thing, personally. But, hey, the screwed over the SSJ legend after the Freeza saga, so who knows? I always thought Gohan was too weak to become one.

A quick glance at the picture confirms that's this race is simply called フリーザー一族 (Furiizaa ichizoku) = Freeza's Relatives/Family. So much for an official name, huh. Although I'm curious whether or not they'll be able to transform in the same manner as Freeza.

Well, that is a tad disappointing. I asked Herms about that very thing in the V-Jump manga topic, because I know the previous avatar characters were announced using their races name. I was hoping we might finally get a name for them, but I see they took the easy way out (not that I blame them). Now I wish we had bigger versions of the scans posted above, as well as a scanlated version of the Episode of Bardock, these are the first Heroes characters to really have a backstory and I want the details. lol

This game is turning out to be quite a surprise. I like the idea of these 'What-If' characters simply being alternate timelines/universes of the DBZ world, seeing as we all know that they are feasible.

I'd love to see an official name for Frieza's race though. I really think that it's about time they started expanding the DB Universe with new characters for each race/introducing new races/etc.

It gives it a greater feeling of depth, and shows the DB story line off for what it is - a small part of an exciting, colourful universe. There's so much stuff they could add and it's great to see them experimenting with it.

On the scan of the mag, in the bottom left hand corner, there's a Cold family tree. I can make out Cold linked to Cooler and Frieza, and Kuriza is on there too, but who is it on the top right?

I was talking about this in the topic in the general discussion portion of the board (at least until a mod moves that topic here). The family tree shows a question mark next to the mystery alien and the actual diagram doesn't have the tree lines connecting 'em to anyone else in the box, so it doesn't appear to be directly related to Cold's family. Perhaps its a cousin and the parent of the three new members of the race? Who knows. It might appear in the game, or it might be a reference to one of the new characters in the Episode of Bardock mini-manga. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm hoping for better scans of both the magazine and actual scans of the manga in the next couple of days so we can have details.

I think "Freeza Clan" is a much better translation of Furiiza Ichizoku than "Freeza's family" and whatnot. "Family" makes it sound like these new avatar characters are very closely related to Freeza, whereas ichizoku does not (it refers to more general kin-based groups), and they seem to be going out of their way to not say anything about how these guys relate to Cold, Freeza, and Coola, labeling them as "?" on that diagram.

At first I thought this whole concept of another just 'bleh' off shoot arcade card swype type game would just be the same old thing but aside from it being a 2D game [Budokai opposed to the free roam] and the new made up heroes [the non cannon ones] this game is looking pretty nice.

If they would just give us a 3D game like this where we get these kind of actual what-if characters and such, I think it would make for a pretty decent game, all they would need to do was take the card-based part out of it.

It's about time we got some new what-if villians.

Consering these new Frieza type characters in these games, does Toriyama have control over the designs or have anything to do with it or are the game developers making things up as they go along?

I can be fine with SS3's of Saiyans since it is plausible but I'd love to see new 'canon' characters like the Frieza race people we see there.

I don't think Toriyama had anything to do with them. I remember, but can't find the article, that I believe said the same person who designed SS3 Broli designed SS3 Trunks, and it definitely wasn't Toriyama's name listed. So I'm willing to bet the what-ifs and new avatar characters are all designed by the same guy.

I, for one, am loving this.

I always thought that Dragon Ball had potential for and deserved an expanded universe, much like Star Wars. And that seems to be something along the lines of what we're getting. I'm somewhat excited to see new members of Freeza's race, even though they're unnamed and in a game I'll likely never play.

I'm fairly sure Toriyama designed SSJ3 Broli and Vegeta... I could be wrong.

Agree that DB with having a huge EU similar to Star Wars. I still won't mind seeing transformation forms for King Cold as well.

Agreed, I was just thinking that. When I first saw the new Freeza Clan characters, the first thing that popped into my head was King Cold's other forms--plus, he's my favourite character. Either way, I hope these characters are used beyond DBH as I said, it would be a big waste to just use them for a card game.

Maybe these characters will be somehow connected with the "New Age of Dragon Ball" mode that has been talked about in Project Age 2011/Ultimate Tenkaichi? I can't imagine what else it'd be.
