Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
I can't remember, but I think a voice actor (I believe it was Sabat, who stated he loved the original term) stated it on Facebook or Twitter. It may have been in this thread, though I know looking through it would be an arduous task due to it's utter length...Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Sorry I might've missed something, but where is it said that FUNi is using Kienzan?Metalwario64 wrote: I believe it was mentioned that they were keeping the completely made up attack names and whatnot in Japanese ("Destructo Disc" is now reverted back to "Kienzan" for example). Why not just cut the crap and simply say "teleport"? Everyone winsBrad Redfield wrote:So on the subject of the dub supposedly keeping the Japanese attack names...
What are they going to do about Goku's teleporting ability?
Will they still call it Instant Transmission? Or Shunkan Ido?

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
Hopefully this dub will be good. Vegeta needs to sound a little younger. He still sounds like an old man yelling at a tree.
Haha, no. I've just been caught up off late and haven't been visiting Daizex. Also I never follow a thing Funi does. All I knew was that they were dubbing Kai.Big Momma wrote:Well, hello there. You must be new here.
Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
"Shunkan Idô" is a very generic term used in Japan for what we in the West call "Teleport". It would be somewhat... dumb to leave it untranslated.Brad Redfield wrote:So on the subject of the dub supposedly keeping the Japanese attack names...

I never got the whole "Instant Transmission" thing anyway. It's basically teleporting, why not just call it that?

Probably trying to match lip movements, I suppose. Or wanting it to be fancier than "teleporting" since it's supposed to be a move name.Rory wrote:I never got the whole "Instant Transmission" thing anyway. It's basically teleporting, why not just call it that?

I prefer "Instant Movement" when referring to the technique. Much more succinct than "Transmission" and it matches the lip-flaps of "Shunkan-Ido," too!Xyex wrote:Probably trying to match lip movements, I suppose. Or wanting it to be fancier than "teleporting" since it's supposed to be a move name.

Just throwing this out there but, the "?" in the title kinda bugs me. Why can't it just be "DragonBall Kai Dub" ....just saying.

This thread was made way before any Kai dub was announced, and the person was wondering the likelihood of FUNimation actually doing it.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Just throwing this out there but, the "?" in the title kinda bugs me. Why can't it just be "DragonBall Kai Dub" ....just saying.
That's why it has a question mark. Ideally we'd be discussing this in the "FUNimation announces Dragon Ball Kai Liscense" thread (or whatever it's name is).
Unfortunately, we cannot since it is currently closed.
Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Quick question concerning the attack names. Didn't Cell say "Kienzan disc!" when he threw the discs at Goku during the Cell Games fight in the original DBZ dub? I know Krillin referred to it as a "Destructo Disc," Freeza simply said "Energy Disc," and Vegeta called it the "Don't touch it, Nappa!" But I'm pretty sure I remember Kienzan properly being used by Cell. Anyone recall this moment?

Yeah he did, I had to rewind that part about 3 times to make sure I wasn't hearing things.xzero wrote:Quick question concerning the attack names. Didn't Cell say "Kienzan disc!" when he threw the discs at Goku during the Cell Games fight in the original DBZ dub?

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
It always irked me how they had him say "Kienzan discs" the only time where immediately after the technique is done, Kaio chimes in and says "That's not a kienzan!!" in the original.xzero wrote:Quick question concerning the attack names. Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
I was just playing Tenkaichi 3 and my buddy chose GT Kid Goku. Kid Goku has a move called "Solar Flare" which is the dub name for the Taioken. When he used it, the dub voice actor for Goku called out "Taioken" rather than Solar Flare, even though it has never been called "Taioken" in the dub and it flat out says "Solar Flare" at the bottom.
That was kind of off topic but it happened recently and all this talk about dub actors using the original terminology reminded me of it. Maybe I was just hearing things, but I swear he said it.

Lol, Blue Water's GT dub used "Instant Trans-location."Kaboom wrote:I prefer "Instant Movement" when referring to the technique. Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
To be honest, I'd be happy if Funi either used the original attack names in Japanese or did a decent translation this time.
Well as I think about it, a lot of Dragon Ball attack name's are conveniently in english anyway.
Big Bang Attack, Hell's Flash, etc.

Interesting. Think I'll play me some Tenkaichi 3 tomorrow to see this for myself.
