Wait, they didn't tell Bulma anything about their training? They just up and 'stole into the night'? Because that'd be something else if that's what she's inferring.
No, those scanslator guys just made another mistranslation. Bulma actually says that she's received no word from Goku and Vegeta. She probably knows they're off training at Beerus' planet (since Piccolo knows that, and otherwise Bulma would say Goku and Vegeta have vanished or something like that), but she hasn't heard back from them since they left. I suppose "Goku and Vegeta decided not to tell me anything" doesn't sound too different from "I haven't heard from Goku and Vegeta", but the implications are very different.

Those guys are really starting to get on my nerves. They're not 100% unreliable by any stretch, but they seem to make at least one big bone-headed mistake in every scanlation they do.
I'll double check. Sorry about that.

Edit: The Bulma line was originally translated as "Well, Goku and Vegeta have not decided to tell me anything so I had to come all the way here!" I just thought the "have not decided" part was a little mouthful

Edit 2: As for the several years thing 数年 means several years. 数 is the kanji for "number" and 年 is the kanji for "year." They commonly say it when not specifying an exact number of years.

I thought the same thing. 1 year would actually fit with what Bulma said in the epilogue about seeing Goku the last time 5 years ago.

Lol you guys are so cute arguing about Goku's wins and what factors determined them, while undermining the fact that Vegeta was extremely important in the role of Cell's defeat, separating Ultimate Boo's absorptions, and planning the Genkai Dama. Yet in all instances, he never had a real spotlight, until now most likely, even though I don't think he will win completely against Golden Freeza.

What is this artbook people speak of, implying Freeza as the youngest thus suggesting there are other less powerful mutants like him?

Goku might be SSJ when he teleports to beerus or Whis and then they tell him not to be SSJ for the training.

Just to make it clear to everyone. Neither Goku or Vegeta defeated Buu. The point was it took everyone working together to defeat him.

Yeah, there's not really any reason for "decided" to be in there at all; it doesn't correspond to any word in the Japanese line (which is simply "I haven't heard from Goku and Vegeta"). Of course, lots of times it's fine to add in extra words not present in Japanese if it helps clarify the meaning, but "decided" doesn't really do that here, near as I can tell. In fact, it's the main thing that changes the line's implications from what they originally are. It makes it sound more like Goku and Vegeta are actively trying to keep Bulma in the dark, which isn't implied in the original, at least not anywhere near as strongly as that.

It's not an artbook, it's a postcard that was handed out to people who bought advance tickets for the movie at Anime Japan 2015. See this thread.

Anyway, the same image describes Freeza as an "ideal boss", so overall I don't think there's any reason to read too much into the "youngest child" bit.

Fixing Bulma now. As for the years part that's what we got I even got them to go over it twice.

Do you guys think that this is part of the "script" that Toriyama wrote for the movie? Like really rough manga panels? They said it wasn't a traditional script. It doesn't look exactly like storyboards.

What has happened to the movies plot. First it didn't take years after BOG then it takes place months after(a month over a year at that) and now we are back to the years after. Why can't they just say the movie takes place months after the movie?

Is anyone on here going to be attending that preview screening 9 days from now? I'm not sure why they'd run the risk of spoilers leaking all over the internet a good 3 weeks before it's release.

I don't like how these guys put their bad translations over the japanese text :(
it also takes part of the art in some cases, and it looks ugly :(

Thanks?

And it's literally just a few knucklehead stuff we've slipped on. Saiyan Jedi basically ranted on his "technically it's this" for the most part.

The Japanese text itself half the time covers some of the art so I fail to see what you're trying to get at.

Julian hasn't gotten anything yet, but I think he said there's still a chance he might learn if he has on Monday/Tuesday.
I'm not sure if Pekingdaq has gotten a ticket or not.
Kei didn't enter this time around.
Greg's in with Shueisha, but he's the One Piece guy now, so I think he's an "if/maybe?".

I don't know if there's anyone aside from those four on the boards who's in Japan right now.

Its my honest opinion, also, the japanese taking part of the art is ok, since its their art and they can do whatever they want to it to present it to the public. (also, it doesn't look bad since they are promoting the thing that is in the art and it doesn't take much of it)

Yeah, if it's 数年 then "years"/"few years"/"several years" is correct. Doesn't seem to line up with what we've previously heard/seen about the movie's timeframe, but if that's what it says, that's what it says.

(Actually, now that I think about it, baby Pan might be the only concrete indication of the timeframe we've gotten before this.)

It's a preview for the third chapter of Toyotaro's manga adaptation, so presumably it was drawn by Toyotaro. If it were something Toriyama drew, they'd hype it up as such.

Thanks to TheGameTagerZ for the translations, you guys are awesome, and the odd mistake is human, and not the end of the world.

With regards to the time elapsed since BoG, we know that it's within a year as a very tiny Pan is seen in Videl's arms in Chapter 1.

13 months after BoG to be exact based on evidence from the manga itself.

I appreciate it. Like I thought, the "years" thing is fine, but I did notice a few other mistakes (sorry, I'm a big nuisance, aren't I?):

"Has the era of peace persisted" should be "an era of peace has persisted, but...?!" (in other words, things have been peaceful for a long time, but now that's all about to change)

"The most feared being to the Super Saiyan is none other than Freeza" is backwards; it actually says that the Super Saiyans are what Freeza most fears.

"the strength of his remaining army gradually withered away, ending the devastation" should be "the strength of his remaining army gradually withered away, until they were on the brink of destruction". So it's not describing the destruction caused by the army, but rather how the army is about to be destroyed since they've gotten so weak now that Freeza isn't around.

Sorbet "uses the dragon balls of Earth" should be Sorbet "resolves to use the dragon balls of Earth". In other words, the sentence describes how he's decided to do that, rather than him actually doing it. That's why the next sentence describes Freeza actually getting revived by Shenlong.
DBZ_Lee wrote:the odd mistake is human, and not the end of the world.
This is true. I suppose this stuff sticks out to me mostly because of a sort of Uncanny Valley effect. Since the translations are mostly fine, the things that aren't fine stick out like sore thumbs.

I will say this: their translator(s) has no problem with vocabulary, but needs a better grasp of Japanese grammar. That's where most of these mistakes seem to come from.
