Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

I'm probably the only one who wants new GT material in leiu of this movie. But GT is outta Toei's history books.

I don't understand what's wrong with a SSJ Gohan after he received his Ultimate power up. It was never stated that he could not go SSJ again.

The manga sort of implied it, if you ask me. Elder Kaioshin told Gohan to "do that Super thing" to activate it, then went on to explain that transforming is the wrong way of doing things. More importantly, if Gohan could still become stronger by becoming a Super Saiyan, why didn't he do so when Buu was beating him up?

For me that still does not absolutely imply his inability to transform into just a SSJ. And I am not even talking about whether this would make him stronger or not. My argumentation only builds itself on the statement that he could. We know Ultimate is his strongest form. If SSJ adds to that, then Gohan would have used it against Super Boo. Also later the old Kaioshin said to Goku, when asked whether they should fuse as SSJ or not ,that they could go SSJ after the fusion.

But well this topic was already discussed to death and let's not continue this here please.

I guess it is kinda weird, considering the promo for the movie had Ultimate Gohan rather than Super Saiyan [Ultimate] Gohan.

Little trivia bit: this wouldn't be the first time we've seen a villain who has a design based on a cultural asthetic. Majin Boo definitely had an Arabic thing going on.

Maybe Toriyama's changing it up and going with Egyptian this time?

Oh dammit, now I'm never going to be able to unsee Goku running around in the Pegasus God Cloth trying to Ryu Sei Ken the furry equivalent of Hades (closest Toei could get to referencing the Hades OVA is by using Anubis? lol). If that's what Toei's doing, the least they could do is lead it into my dream crossover... I know it's probably just a coincidence and my nerdiness, but between this and Kamen Rider Fourze, they've been awfully reference-y to it (well, if it is, maybe we'll finally get a new Kageyama song).

Still, Goku fighting a god? Sounds fun. The DBZ ones were mostly kinda sucky, though Kaioshin was at least relatively strong (should have shown up during the Cell Games, then we could have had fun). Maybe Kaioshin will show up and at least briefly put his fused body to the test in a fight. Should at least be stronger than Cell by that point.

Something tells me Goku's going to Dragon Fist it's guts in...call it a hunch, but Toei might reuse it as a nod to movie 13 (the movie before, timeline wise, not counting specials). Plus, I like the way it looks (though if they do then Toei might really be making references given what other move it looks like).

...Guess I'll need to re-read the manga or re-watch the anime soon, to get back into the groove of things. Want it to be fresh in my mind when I take in the movie.

He'll probably turn into something smaller. Given Toriyama's view that the shorties should be the biggest threats, we all know who the big villain of this movie is.

I think thats Puar on his shoulder and he's dressed like a Dr Slump character. Maybe we can ask Puar on the species of that creature?

There are parasols, everyone's there, and Krillin and Bulma are drinking, so the story must begin at a party like 2008 special. And considering Mr. Satan's presence, that girl obviously is Videl.

You're probably right. I initially thought it looked like a kid's arms were wrapped around his neck, and Puar doesn't exactly have the longest of arms, but I wasn't thinking about his new clothes having a collar for some reason. xD

An interesting thing to point out, the kanji on Gokuu's gi switched from 亀 (Kame) to 悟 (Go). Weird to see him wear that. The last time we saw him wear it was on Namek (or for non-canon sake, Movie 5.)

It also seems like Krillin is holding a beer and Bulma is holding a wine glass. Perhaps the events of this movie unfold during some party.

The entire movie's plot is goku's drunken escapade.

I'm assuming, that rabit thing is the old enemy that Old Kai spoke about. The one that locked Old Kai in the Z Sword. Old Kai did say that he was powerful, but not as powerful as Buu.

Those tiny things at the side seem to look like Shu and Pilaf.

Oh, a poster! Well this is a pleasant yet weird surprise. I'm really hoping this is supposed to be somehing like a Sphynx cat and considering the egyptian style clothes and Toriyama's fondness for cats, I think that is very likely. I mean a rabbit ....

I'll wait until we get more pictures of this villain (?) before I decide whether I like the design or not. I'm so and so right now.
It would be nice if we were to get several enemies, each representing a different ancient culture or something.

Gohan being SSj only bothers me because it might show that the makers of this movie didn't do their homework properly. If if we get an explanation as to why he no longer is mytic or whatever it's called, I'm fine with it. What bothers me more is the poster shows the saiyans rush off to battle, while Piccolo and the rest are spectators, there to offer comments and reaction faces. I am still hoping for more from this movie

But it can't be all that tough of a fight if he is only at Super Saiyan 1.
