Damn, I have a poster on my wall that I've been jokingly picking out the races for each of them for years. I need to take a picture of it or something.
And I have always seen the Briefs as white, even when most of the chars are assumed or defaulted Asian and they live in the same area. I don't know why oO

Well, I guess that it has to do with him wearing Hawaii-shirts a lot of the time, wearing sunglasses, and living on a "tropical" island, and having a Turtle as his friend.Olivier Hague wrote:

But there is the "Juckie Chun" alias, I guess. I had forgotten about that detail...
But then, as told, we have the other part of him, his martial arts side, where he practices and teaches Kung-fu, and dresses in a Kung-fu suit.
I always have seen him as Asian, probably Chinese because of his practicing of Kung-fu.
But he is so old that his nationality may not be easily found out because of his choice of living.
As for Mr. Satan, I think he looks like an Italian or a Spanish guy. Mark can be as told before the English name for "Marco".
Or, he may simply be the son of Italian immigrants, and have gotten the name Mark.
I'm looking to deep into this...

Then again, it's a false identity / disguise...But then, as told, we have the other part of him, his martial arts side, where he practices and teaches Kung-fu, and dresses in a Kung-fu suit.
But I guess the fact he pulls it off means he looks Chinese (or Chinese enough).
We do know his sister... but it doesn't help much, does it? ^^;he is so old that his nationality may not be easily found out because of his choice of living.

I always saw him as Hawaiin due to his clothing style and his island, and the fact that he created an attack named after a Hawaiin king.
I never met a Hawaiin, but in TV they look Asian to me.

His sister is so old and degenerated in her face that you can't tell her nationality. She may indeed be Chinese.
We don't know, which is why we speculate, and other's theories about the eyes are as ridiculous as thinking that Kame-sennin is from Hawaii.
They are assumptions and as valid as eachother.
Simply, we are basing the two mentioned things with eachother, and both assumptions are based on the drawings.
You cannot say that the eye thing isn't valid as an argument, as you don't have any facts that Toriyama didn't intend the eyes to show some kind of nationality, regardless what anime and manga do.
Keep in mind that different mangaka have different stories and drawing techniques, and that you can't refer to other mangas/animes to disprove other people's theories, like with statements such as: "You obviously haven't read enough manga!" (not a direct quote from you).
Stop telling people that their logic is flawed, by disproving them with your logic as the base. Please, don't be an ass.

Re: Race in Dragonball
I... don't even know what you're talking about. How was I being defensive, sarcastic or bitter, there?Wojak wrote:Yaay, sarcasm, the greatest defense from a bitter person ^^;
Dude, dude... I said I thought Kame Sennin would be Hawaiian. Did you really think I was being 100% serious when I mentioned that his sister looked like a Western witch (because of her costume, no less, and costumes aren't exactly a genetic trait)? His sister is so old and degenerated in her face that you can't tell her nationality. She may indeed be Chinese.
Basically, we (such a happy bunch) were looking for hints regarding Kame Sennin's ethnicity, I remembered that we knew his sister, but that it unfortunately didn't really help (hence the "it doesn't help much, does it?" ... I thought that was explicit enough)... and then I made a joke in passing about her decidedly not Asian-looking costume. Apparently, that last part was a terrible mistake.
Now that we're clear, you can still go ahead and crucify me, but...?
Er... What? You cannot say that the eye thing isn't valid as an argument, as you don't have any facts that Toriyama didn't intend the eyes to show some kind of nationality, regardless what anime and manga do.
Considering none of us (I believe?) has any fact regarding Toriyama's intents, that particular part goes both ways, doesn't it?
And "regardless of what anime and manga do"? I'd think that's kinda relevant... It's not like Dragon Ball was serialized in Garô: it's quite the mainstream manga.
Well, it's a discussion: they can show me how my logic is flawed, too. Nothing wrong with such an argument.Stop telling people that their logic is flawed, by disproving them with your logic as the base.
... Okay...? ^^;Please, don't be an ass.
