That's all well and good but, the drawing point for me is watching the show how I like it in the best quality. And I don't particularly like the show with the Japanese music, at least later on in the show. Hell, certain scenes during the Cell Games saga made me cringe at how horrible placed the music was (mainly the inappropriate overuseage of that song from the beginning of Movie 7 when Androids 14 & 15 first appear).

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I am overjoyed by the fact that FUNimation releasing their version of the Dragon box, I am overjoyed that it will contain the previews, I am overjoyed that it will contain excellent subtitles, and I like the fact that it will be cheaper, and less of a hassle than importing the Toei singles

I have no problems with the fact that a Dub track will be included, some people want the best picture quality available, and they prefer the Dub, that's fine.
But what is the point of having the 5.1 dub track put in this release? The 5.1 tracks in the Orange brick releases were a waste. The 5.1 tracks were bloated, poorly mixed, extra channels went to waste, a Stereo track properly mixed would make better sense to have in this release.

Leaving out the Faulconer dub track to conserve the visual quality is nice and all, but there is still needless bloat, and I'm sure Dub fans would prefer a properly well mixed Stereo track over a poorly mixed 5.1 track.

FUNimation could have done this release better. I'm disappointed by this loss. Doesn't affect me much though, I'll still buy them.

If it was, then we'll get the same audio track as present on Orange Bricks then?
If it's true, it's a pitty then..... but still it's amazing and almost unbelievable for me . (The all US Dragon Box matter)
Well, it depends on which set you're talking about. All of the series' Dragon Boxes were completely in mono, as that is how they originally aired. They simply went to the source material for the audio, just like they did for the video, and removed damage. Meaning the audio never gives out or cracks during high notes in a song or loud screams, and the typical background noise (that horrible "shhhhhhh" sound) is virtually nonexistent. At times, it really does sound like you're listening to it in stereo, but it is indeed in mono. The only thing to be presented entirely in stereo was the GT TV special, since it was originally broadcast in stereo. However, it is theorized that the music and sound effects were mixed into stereo on the "Dragon Box The Movies" release.

On the one hand, good, getting rid of that Faulconer music. Not that there aren't a couple of good tracks, but the music just sort of sits on top of the footage, and never ingrains itself into the scenes. I feel that same way about a lot of the Yamamoto score for Dragon Ball Kai. If fans are going to make the choice to watch the English dub, at least they'll be exposed with the real music.

On the other hand, they might as well have the Faulconer music with the dub, instead of the Japanese music, since the English dub is a different program, anyway. If you're watching the English dub, you aren't watching DBZ.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Please, for the love of God, don't start that. I'd like to see a DragonBox thread actually last for a little while. :?

Anyway, I'm not happy that some people won't get what they wanted out of the release now, but I am glad that we finally have confirmation one way or the other, so we can stop the needless speculation.

Also, I just realized how close the release date is (especially if RightStuf ships it out early). SUPAH EXCITED! :D

There is a god. My only real concern was video quality and now that one of the dub tracks is gone I can rest a little bit easier. If I ever want to watch the show with the dub music track, I'll just watch a season set.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

OK, thanks. I thought it was in November. Good, so I'll be able to buy it within November/December. If I can't buy it in November, I can always save up for it and buy it in December, or ask for it for Christmas. I'm not gonna start watching it until the beginning of the year, anyway.

Cool beans! So far everything seems like it's going to be very centric on the Japanese version as they boasted, and this is no exception. Looking forward to the release. :)

While I realize the lack of the dub soundtrack may drive some people away from this purchase, this is truly awesome news. FUNimation did say from the start that the Dragon Boxes weren't for the casual fan and it's a bonus for me, as a dub fan, that I prefer the Japanese score.

Still, it would have been nice to please everybody with the Dragon Boxes, as I think every DBZ fan deserves a high quality 4:3 release, but I cannot see how the quality could have been kept up to Dragon Box standard unless they bumped the disc count up to 8 (or 7, at the very least) and spread the episodes out over that.

It has probably been mentioned in another thread on the subject, but I was comparing the Dragon Box mock up with the photos on Kanzentai and I noticed the extreme zoom on the spine image. It's a bit of a bummer, but this is definitely looking to be a pretty cool release.

This is good news, now if we can only get them to down the episode to disc count. Still, at least one worry was taken care of, and as such I await the release excitedly.

I think I should say why us dubbies are (or now, were) so gung-ho on the dub music being in there:

I can't speak for everyone, but in my case, ever since I first found out about all of the flaws in the Season sets and the fact there was an alternative called the Dragon Boxes, I wanted them. But when I found out it was Japanese only with no subs and a STEEP price, I was instantly taken aback. It kept me from being optimistic that I would actually own them. So I would go on all of these sites and look for screencaps of the Dragon Box just so I could get SOME form of exposure to it. Hell, I would even adjust the color settings on my TV so the colors would look kinda sorta like the Dragon Box just so I could get the illusion (or delusion) of actually having it. So when Funimation announced that they were releasing these sought-after sets in America at a good price, I was excited - I would finally see what I sought after so much. But it not having the dub music was just a letdown because it's been the way I've liked watching the show for years - and now I can't watch it in the quality I've sought after for the last 2 years.

I understand why this is special for the sub fans. If you've been following the show since the early 90's and experienced all of the bad treatment Funi gave to the show, you're gonna feel relieved now that Funi has released the series in the way they should have. But because of mistakes that Funi made in the past - and I emphasize past because we can't change it - it lead to all kinds of divided in the fanbase. It also created people like me who are just as knowledgeable as sub fans but just like the dub more. They have the same opinion of Funi's treatment but have grown to like certain things that were a product of the bad treatment, like the dub music. It's what made them a fan in the first place. They're just as much of a minority as the Japanese fans in America. They agree with you guys just as much that Funi never released the series like they should have. So they deserve just as much as you guys to watch the show how THEY want it, in the best quality possible and finally get a good release from Funi.

Dragon Box and Dragon Ball Raging Blast for November. My wallet is going to hurt. I really should update my credit card info over at RightStuf. I was thinking of picking it up at my local Best Buy, but the price is now $69.99. What a shame. I really don't want to use a credit card, but I'm willing to make the sacrifice.
