Eyecatches and the distraction/interruption factor

The eyecatcher moment that I hated the most was when Vegeta was just about to go all out against Cell after he kills Trunks, it even goes to the point where he's mid-way through the air about to attack him. All of a sudden...

I still like the eyecatchers though, GT have the best ones alongside with the first DragonBall one but for some reason I don't like the Z one's as much.

Which reminds me, the eyecatcher music played in the DragonBall GT season sets by FUNimation seems really weird to me for some strange reason. It's like a small section of the music is repeated twice in order to match with the footage. Was it originally like this or were their problems by FUNimation? (I'm talking about the default 5.1 surround track, I cannot test the Original Japanese Mono right now as I have no access to it).

The eyecatchers are alright, I never really payed attention to them to be honest.

Except the Dragon Box ones, which look purty.

Yeah, they killed many-a scenes intensity. The Kai Eye Catchers are much better. They don't ruin intensity. Also, I know it's already been mentioned. But as a Trunks fan I must re-state. Trunks' SSJ transformation in the Special was completely disgraced by that ridiculous music. It's not that it does it all the time, but there are just scenes like that that stick out in your mind.

Before anyone else comes in and says it, let me be the first to remind everyone that they are "eyecatches"... there's no letter "R" in there. They are not "catchers". It's a genuine, official name for them, so it's not particularly up for interpretation .

I think eyecatches are supposed to be a visual/aural cue that the show is about to take (or return from) a commercial break. They're supposed to break the mood and give the viewer a breather before resuming with Act 2.

The people here that complain that "eyecatches ruin the moment" are completely missing the point of the eyecatch. Yeah, Team Four Star made fun of it during the 3-part Season 1 finale, but I'd much rather have some sort of eyecatch interrupting than just a flash cut to black and then a commercial immediately starts up. At least on the DVDs you can just sit tight and know that the "we now return to" eyecatch will immediately follow the "we'll be right back" eyecatch (in most anime series anyway).

I honestly think eyecatches should be removed from home releases and just provided as a bonus feature along with textless openings and ending animations. The eyecatches are designed to bookend commercial breaks, which are going to break the mood and flow of the show anyways. When you're watching a DVD or Blu-ray there aren't any commercial breaks, so the eyecatches serve no purpose except to momentarily take you out of the experience both literally and mentally.

And why shouldn't they cut the second scene? The only reason they repeated it was because they thought people would forget what happened during the commercial break. There are no commercials on DVDs/Blu-rays so repeating scenes is pointless. They can just include the extra take as a bonus feature.

And even with the pointless eyecatch separating the scenes you're still watching Kuririn summon Shenlong twice.
