Yeah, let's forget that they translated and included the Dragon Books, which were the only meaningful extra in the Japanese boxes outside of the specials. Instead let's bitch about how FUNimation didn't go through the hassle of making deals with random-ass Japanese companies so I could watch the fifteen second eye-drop commercial without having to go to YouTube.LeprikanGT wrote:I don't see why everyone is so happy that all they did was turn them into yellow bricks.
The point was that the JP release got an amazing way to hold the dvds and so many extras with them.
We got 7 yellow bricks following 9 orange bricks and the only extra is a piece of paper stuck to the back of the box. Do people not even care that we get the lesser of a product? Yeah you get to see the show but you get shorted on everything else.

I don't see why you're so unhappy about it in the first place, but I think the US DBox stands out pretty well in the first place compared to other DVDs due to the spine art alone.LeprikanGT wrote:Because they are meant TO stand out. are you seriously limited to a tiny shelf? The JP Dragonboxes are huge and glorious and amazing. People were all like "oh, well stores wouldn't carry something that big." Really?......Really? THATS the reason the US dragonboxes arent huge and awesome? I think not.
That guy is practically giving it away at 500. Wasn't it like 2000 or something in Japan when you had to order it?

The Japanese Dragon Boxes. There are a lot of extras, too much to explain.SuperSaiyan3Goku wrote:OK, think realistically here.
Would you rather have big-ass boxes that cost over $500 a piece, or 7 smaller ones with THE EXACT SAME FOOTAGE for only $35 a piece?

They blend in pretty well around all of the other releases. And YES I care about all the commercials and all of that, because I would like to own EVERY bit of DB animation and yes I'm will to pay more for it.
The JP Dragonboxes are supposed to be the very closest to the original as it gets. And it was released with SO much more than the US ones are. Excuse me for wanting the most/everything out of my releases.

90% of that stuff looked like every other DVD ever (like most of the stuff on my shelf pic). The Season Sets were just the title of the series. Then there's this really awesome Goku spineart. The only way it blends in is due to being part of the same franchise. Other than that it stands out as a release.LeprikanGT wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6gLCilD5lE

Maybe I'd be a bit more excited if it didn't come off the tail end of them releasing bricks with 6 DVDs a piece AND Faulconer music....then they come out with the Dboxes with are a 6 DVD release and no Faulconer music and pretty close to the same dimensinos. I'm a firm believer in the Japanese making the Dboxes SO MUCH bigger than everything else was for a reason, and that reason was becasue they know how big and importnat DBZ is and they gave it a full proper release.Kendamu wrote:90% of that stuff looked like every other DVD ever (like most of the stuff on my shelf pic). Yes, adding a ten minute reel of Japanese commercials to a series of box-sets containing 291 twenty-two minute episodes is so much more then the series of box-sets that's missing those ten minutes of commercials.LeprikanGT wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6gLCilD5lE

Japan didn't even get any of the extras on their singles release, so the American Dragon Boxes actually have more then the standard Japanese release. It's only compared to the extremely limited and extremely expensive Japanese boxsets that we're missing anything, and even there the difference is insignificant to the majority of the fanbase.

For $35.....you are getting what you paid for. For [hoever much the JP boxes were]....you were DEFINITELY getting WAY more so i'm fine with paying that much more.Taku128 wrote:Yes, adding a ten minute reel of Japanese commercials to a series of box-sets containing 291 twenty-two minute episodes is so much more then the series of box-sets that's missing those ten minutes of commercials.LeprikanGT wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6gLCilD5lE

And I'm sure PLENTY of fans would have paid good money for them to release the exact same release [w/ a Dub track]. I'd have been first in line to place my order.

Well, you're not necessarily talking to me as someone who opposes an oversized DVD set. I'm more or less coming from the angle of, "Don't hate on them just because they're normal sized." I more or less don't care what size it is and I think it's dumb that it has to be normal or oversized. It's pretty damn cool no matter what.LeprikanGT wrote:Maybe I'd be a bit more excited if it didn't come off the tail end of them releasing bricks with 6 DVDs a piece AND Faulconer music....then they come out with the Dboxes with are a 6 DVD release and no Faulconer music and pretty close to the same dimensinos. I'm a manga fanboy collecting the anime for the first time. I think that's proof enough of how damn cool it is.

Most of my problem with the release; aside from the fact they dwarfed it and it looks like bricks now, is we NEVER get any of the extras; be it figures or dioramas[sp], or exta footage or any of that.

Before we started getting what we're getting, I thought that the orange bricks were it and that, from there, we'd just get Blu-ray versions of the same thing. The fact that I can collect the series in a quality that's beyond my standards for this show in the first place is pretty amazing. Would I want all the extras? Of course! I'm not saying that we shouldn't have them. However, I can't really rain on the parade here. I finally get to own this series in a quality format that isn't also overpriced.LeprikanGT wrote:Most of my problem with the release; aside from the fact they dwarfed it and it looks like bricks now, is we NEVER get any of the extras; be it figures or dioramas[sp], or exta footage or any of that.

Re: Japanese Dragon Box Z Volume 1 for sale
FINALLY! Someone who undertsands me. If I had the DragonBoxes, I would have a complete collection.. I have every single DVD Funi has released concerning the DB universe....and yet I feel I'll never have a complete set because I am missing everything in the Dboxes. That is the fullest collection I have ever seen.....Ever, that I could call more complete than my own. And you sire, have my jealousy forever.AnimeMaakuo wrote:The size is huge, yes. For me it's not a problem, I still have mine. They are still brand new condition, I'm going to watch them from beginning to end soon. I go through cycles about every year tehehe. I really don't see the problem, they cost a lot.. but worth every damn penny. They come with everything you can imagine! If you're a fan of the "original" film content, this is for you. I like that the US tried to make it a replica, dispite the disc stacking. It doesn't bother me, I really do appreciate them. Not sure what's with the hate.
The thing I love most is the OVA special and the others that came with it. Not sure if FUNi will get it, hope so.

I'd trade in every single one of my singles if I could get the Dboxes, I don't see how people don't understand their amazing awesomeness.

I don't know if you know this or not but the color of the sky when Goku and Vegeta fought each other is different from the ones you see in Fuji TV. Well, at least the first run.... I'm not sure after that.AnimeMaakuo wrote:If you're a fan of the "original" film content, this is for you

With everything there visually...I don't see why people can't understand why the JP boxes are so superior. How much did all 5 boxes cost [w/ all the extras]?AnimeMaakuo wrote:If I knew you a little more, and we were close house friends, I would help you out. The fact that people don't understand what they're missing out is heart breaking. I don't believe people are fully aware of the ramifications here. The JP Dragon Boxes contain EVERYTHING. From proper remastering, to T.V specials. The feeling you have when they're yours, feels classic and rich of yummyness. I didn't like the English dub, so I wanted to see something that I could understand, yet own it all at the same time. So I bought them. I also bought the sealed 40th jump special. Will never open it, as well as my Daizenshuu books. I just buy a bootleg special and watch it, thus making it easier so I don't have to open such a limited item. I can never get the nerve to open the special items that came with it. Though, I truly hope that, whoever owns this, or has the US Dragon Boxes.. Whichever it may be, I hope you truly enjoy it with all your heart.

It's not that anyone over here is saying, "Those Dee Bawks thingies frum Jerpan are stoopid." They are amazing and they are awesome. That doesn't mean that the US DBox is a bad release, though. It's also amazing and awesome; just not as much as the very limited Japanese release.
What we're getting in something sort of in-between the Japanese singles and the limited Japanese release. If the US DBox is bad, then so are the Japanese singles.

What are you talking about? I'm saying the color of the Japanese DBox Z in those episodes is not accurate, There's even a Japanese fan here who doesn't want the Dragon Box because of that.AnimeMaakuo wrote:If I knew you a little more, and we were close house friends, I would help you out.
