Where do people get the idea that Kid Trunks is a brat? He's no angel, but he's not any worse than Goten. Gotenks is the cocky, bratty one.

Kid Trunks is the kind of brat, that goes around and karatechops innocent tournament participants, just so he can illegally participate in the adults division.

Other than the voice...

There isn't a problem with his voice, IMO. The problem with him is:
1) He is rich as hell, whilst Goten's famiry live on scraps
2) He is a brat
3) He seems like a show off (thank you Trunks for Gotenks' attitude!)
4) He seems less well behaved than Goten

I don't dislike him, though. And I don't blame him. He is the son of Bulma, after all.

1. Chichi says that the prize money has almost run out. That's why she lets Gohan to participate in the tournament. Trunks is loaded. This makes him less likeable.
2. He is a brat. The definition of "brat" is "a troublesome child". Which he is. Goten is too. They both put themselves into danger. But Trunks has taken the initiative to mischief way to often. Thus he is brattier than Goten.
3. He is the one that wants to fight in the adult league, and also he showed off when he wanted to fight Goten with only one hand. So he is more of a show-off than Goten.
4. Goten more or less follows everything Trunks says. If Goten doesn't agree, Trunks always finds some stupid excuse for it to sound as a right thing to do and not wrong. Thus he acts up more than Goten does.

Summary: Trunks is a less likable character than Goten. That's why more people dislike him than Goten.

Why is being rich a bad thing? That’s hardly his fault, anyway.
I never minded Trunks ... yeah, he can be bratty and annoying at times, but what little kids aren’t?
Of course, most children don't have incredible powers to get them into mischief. =p

I think Trunks and Goten are better examples of how children are than Gohan was when he was a kid. They're brats because Toriyama made it that way to try and be humorous. Stop looking so deeply into it.
