Trunks and Kuririn's Relationship

Post by Piccolo Daimao » Sun Nov 14, 2010 1:00 pm

Now, I was just thinking about how it was interesting that Trunks and Kuririn were paired up at various times in the Cell arc. They travelled to where Piccolo and Cell were fighting, they went to destroy Dr. Gero's underground lab, Trunks saved Kuririn with the Senzu after he was kicked by Cell and they were the two shown to be cautious after Goku blasted off Cell's upper torso with the Kamehameha. I liked how they were matched up at points and their relationship in the Cell arc, and I think it was clever of Toriyama to do that because a number of their team actions helped the story in some way or another.

This may sound like a pointless thread, but I just wanted to touch on it and see what others thought about it.

I agree. I think they made a good team together and in a way Kuririn was more of a "father-like" figure to Trunks than Vegeta was for most of the story arc. In fact, the only real development between Vegeta and Trunks was their training (which we didn't really see), Vegeta attempting to avenge his death, and then the farewell gesture at the end which I think just showed Vegeta finally gave Trunks the respect of his father, but I digress. Some of my favorite moments in the story were definitely the Trunks and Kuririn scenes.

I prefer Gohan and Krillin's team work in the Freeza saga, but Trunks and Krillin's wasn't bad either.

Yep, I always liked how they seemed to be paired up, even though it sometimes seemed a bit out of left field. I also liked how Piccolo and Tenshinhan were paired up as well (particularly in the anime), and I really loved that scene in the end where Yamucha and Trunks were paired up so that Yamucha could reveal Vegeta's reaction to Trunks's death.

And with all that said, I'm sorry, but is that whole "(no homo)" thing really necessary? I've been seeing that same parenthetical pop up in threads quite frequently any time someone wants to talk about character relationships. First off, like I said, it seems unnecessary because I doubt anyone would be thinking that's what you meant. And second, just the way it's worded sounds a bit immature and derogatory. Don't mean to derail the thread, but I felt that important to question.

I felt it was necessary because I didn't want someone to think that I was suggesting Trunks and Kuririn were lovers or anything. Like whenever people talk about Tenshinhan and Chaozu's relationship, there's bound to be at least one person who says they're lovers.

But if it bothers you, I'll remove it.

It's something I'd totally forgotten about but really enjoyed while I was watching Dragon Box 4. Yeah, they're total bros.

Then again, maybe it's just that Krillin's very personable. He's really the first and only character to really reach out and talk to Trunks about anything beyond plot details.

We never see kid Trunks and Kuririn talk. You'd think Kuririn would take a liking to him, but whatever.

They have like one very brief scene together during the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai in the manga. I can picture the panel in my mind (double-checked to be sure)...Kuririn is tying his shoes and saying something about how he "feels sorry for the other guys here". Though I guess that doesn't count as real interaction.

Oh! And there is also movie 11..but I can't really remember how much interacting there was between them.

I also loved the scenes with these two. Heck, this is what Krillin does best...being a really good friend. He had his own 18 issue, but for the rest he really did help Trunks a lot.

He did the same for Gohan back in the days.

Trunks + Krillin + Gohan = ROAD TRIP!!

Kid Trunks was a spoiled unruly brat. Future Trunks was a reserved, well behaved young man.
Just because of that they are the same person doesn't mean that you'll like them both, especially when their personalities differ that much.

Kuririn is a lot likeable in the Cell arc, Trunks likes him, he and Gohan are best friends, he bags 18 and Vegeta even calls him by name.

Trunks: What do you mean, you like Android 18?! She's a monster!
Krillin: Come on, calm down.
Trunks: Bros before hos, man. Bros. Before. Hos.

Yeah, I liked seeing them getting along too. I wonder if Trunks had any memories of Krillin from his own timeline?

Probably not considering Krillin was murdered, when Trunks was a new born baby(at most 1 year old).

Where do people get the idea that Kid Trunks is a brat? He's no angel, but he's not any worse than Goten. Gotenks is the cocky, bratty one.

Kid Trunks is the kind of brat, that goes around and karatechops innocent tournament participants, just so he can illegally participate in the adults division.

This just goes to show how important it is to remember that Future Trunks and Chibi Trunks are two entirely different people.

I also really like the Kuririn and Future Trunks relationship, partly because it wasn't really something I expected. I didn't see Future Trunks and think to myself "Wow this guy is really gonna hit it off with Kuririn." Then again Kuririn seems like such a nice guy, how could anyone not hit it off with him?

Oh yes... during the cell ark they had a lot of interaction. My favorite was when Kuririn could tell Trunks had more power in reserve as Vegeta fought Perfect Cell and Trunks just casually replied with "So you knew". It really shows that Trunks really considered Kuririn close. Heck I also liked Trunks relationship with Chibi Gohan, I wonder why Toriyama never touched upon their relationship more, like show how trunks felt seeing his Master in child form and not the wise powerful man he knew. It must of felt weird for him.

I agree. The two became friends. I did not really noticed it.

(Despite that the thread title looks some kind of yaoi fanfic)

I mean because he was good friends with Future Trunks, he would see how similar Kid Trunks is and unknowingly like him more than if he never met Future Trunks. Kinda like a subconcious thing, you know?
