To me, it's a culmination of the older DragonBall era illustration style and the Z era material.

At times, (as the image in the original post reveals) the 'badassery' level turned down a whole notch, and miniaturized/compacted by a fifth. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but when this style is taken further, we get a lanky and odd looking characters, i.e Perfect Cell.

Then, there are the images in where the detailing is taken to a whole other level - Que 'badassery' level crank up.

I like it. It's merely another style that Akira Toriyama has implicated into his work. Every iteration has their own merits.

Except for the incorrect use of the verb "implicate" I agree with the above post. I really just appreciate that Toriyama has changed his style over the years. It helps to avoid some of the "been there, done that" feeling when he does new DBZ illustrations.

I believe I meant to say "applied". You know what? I'm going to leave it as is so people can laugh at me

I like it a lot. I always wondered how goku's hair would look IRL, and this art style approximates it better to reality.

I love it, especially the coloring.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

In his kanzenban art I find the colors and the shadows too watery. In his old art their colors look dusty.

I think the detail in his old art is way more fantastic than in his new art. But on those red covers, there's plenty great detail.....then it's just the coloring again. xP

It looks cool. I would just wish that it was Yamcha, F.Trunks, Tien and Chaozu instead of Android 18, Kid Goten and Kid Trunks.

If I remember correctly, his 'new' coloring style is the result of a collaborated effort between himself and his wife.

I like it. It's nice to see how Toriyama's style has changed and evolved over the years. Plus, in some ways a "rounder" style is a bit of a return to his old-school cartoony style.

Is that true? Could I have the source, please?

I like it a lot, just shows what DB illustrations would look like if the series were done today.

This is probably a very stupid question but did Toriyama re-draw every panel in the Kanzenban or just the covers?
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Just the front and back covers.

Didn't he redraw one of the early chapter title pages as well?

Don't forget about the spine art.

Yeah, someone (presumably Toriyama) redrew the title page for chapter 005. You'll note Bulma's cigarette is missing in the redrawn kanzenban version.
