I gave it a rent. It can be okay at some times. But the engine is crap. All the enemies are cheap and predictable. And do you know what's worse? For the anime cut scenes, they decided to use the EDITED clips, that they cheaply ripped from Funi's masters, when they could have easily used uncut clips. And I find it ironic because some of the scenes that were edited in the cutscenes were reanimated in the opening, such as Piccolo's makampkosappo impaling Goku and Raditz. The only thing that was good about the cutscenes was that they finally pronounced Kaio Ken correctly. And I was forced to listen to some of THE CRAPPIEST Falcouner music EVER while playing the game. And this isn't Atari's first screw up like this. YYH Dark Tournament had the same cheap fighting engine, and ridiculous difficulty at some times. No, wait. At lest YYH used uncut footage for the cutscenes. If I worked at gamepro, it would probably go like this.

Control: 2.5

Sound: 3.0

Graphics 2.5

Fun Factor: 3.0

Overall: 3.0

This game is NOWHERE NEAR as good and glitch-free as the Japanese made Budokai games.

While I do like being able to run around and jump, I'd rather be able to just avoid the Saibamen instead of being forced to fight them.

Dude, the newest TMNT fucking rocked. What're you on?

Anyway, I'm still getting Sagas... eventually. Love beat 'em ups, no matter how cheesy they are.
Well, I'm talking about Battle Nexus not that recent Melee one. I have to agree with S though. I just love beat em ups' no matter how cheesy they are or knowing how bad they are. Despite what lost said, I'm still renting the game. I just feel better off actually playing the game & judging for myself whether it's a bad game or not. It's just my obsession with video games & DBZ. I'm not gonna get worked up over it, I'm just gonna rent it.

Heh, you know Blastero, if you're going to review a game... you might consider putting it in the topic of it's name sake, as opposed to one about the opening animation.

Back to topic, I thought most of the characters were less bulky & that's not really a good thing. Even with all the resources, up to date technology & money that TOEI has you would think that they would give some kind of flashy, cinematic animation sequence. It still looked nice from the screencaps I've seen. It's just that the characters looked kind of deformed.

Agreed. There's a separate thread for general discussion of the game. Thanks! :D

Well the very first sequence is pretty flashy, but yes, some characters do look deformed. Personally, I think this game wouldn't be an entire waste of time if it had *New* footage for everything, rather than anime ripping, and editing, atleast then we would be treated to something enjoyable and prompted to continue playing. I know I could be persuaded to play a game I don't like if I really liked the ingame movies of it.

Hm, my sister just saw the intro pictures, and she reckoned that they wanted to evolve and/or modernise the artstyle a bit too much, and thus deforming characters out of their traditional/supposed look.. she may have a point.

Well, seeing as how I just got Mutant Melee today, I was referencing Battle Nexus. My favorite game up until when I got MM. Of course, I'm a biased TMNT fan...

I'm too OT, so I'll shut up now.
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

Yea that's true. But check out the New Fist of the North Star. Ken looks just as big as old school Ken. Our Gokus 'n shit just look like puny wimps. Literally. They look like they belong in One Piece.

Side Note: I'm not cuttin on One Piece.

I concur on the topic of the deformities. Vegeta looks like hell. And his armor's the wrong color. The same color armor he wears for three whole sagas...

Vegeta does not have brown hair, guys. Black, SAIYAN hair. Not. BROWN. Hair. This is becoming a horrific trend in these game animations.

Are these the same animators as those who work on One Piece, because the DBZ animations seem to be merging with that style. Dragonball characters are NOT eight or nine heads tall. It makes them look funny. While, I admit I hated it in GT where characters' bodies would shrink (though for the male characters, with the exception of Mr.Satan, only when indoors) for no apparent reason, this is just as ugly.[/code]

This makes me wonder, would it be that hard to get one of the original dbz animation teams back to work on the openings? Or have all of those people (even the flat animators) moved on to different projects.

Or at least the guys who did Budoukai 2's opening animation; that one I think looked the closest to the dbz animation style of the most recent three.

I really do think its the One Piece animators that they used for this opening. Goku actually looks sort of Luffy-ish when he's riding Kinto'un on the final scene of the opening.
