The cover for FUNimation's release of movie 7 was done by a fellow named Rick Lebo. Although he did a very good job, I can't say that I'm a fan of the style he used. It doesn't seem very fitting for Dragonball (very different from Toriyama's style).

So... that would make my assumption somewhat valid then?
Anyway, I share the same feelings over the style. But at the end of the day, I think I dislike the color job on it, more than the art style itself...
