I'd say the manga. I love taking it all in, Toriyama's amazing artwork , gags, story, and it's perfectly paced (I felt Kai's Saiyan arc was a little too fast paced, while Z was a little too slow at times- but animation is a different medium).
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

It's a shame Kai doesn't feature the Buu stuff, because DBZ ruined the arcs pretty badly. Way too much build-up; I recall getting bored of Goku's fight with Freeza for that reason. If you were going to watch it, you'd probably be better off watching the entirety of Kai and then just picking out the Buu saga from Z so that you get the full story. Or you can read the manga.
"Those transformations insane,
They wanna turn up hours late and steal the show from the pros who had to die for the name." - Yamcha (DBWTF: Z-Rap 3)

"Over saturation is easy. Just drag the slider to the right and there you are: instant interest. And certainly, the majority of the public likes saturated color images. In fact, if you want to quickly create a popular image, simply over saturate the colors and increase the contrast. While you may not achieve a sophisticated image, you will achieve an image that will please a less demanding audience." - Alain Briot

Manga. Right now, it is the cheapest and quickest way to own and enjoy one consistent, in-print version of the series. You can buy every VIZBIG volume of both Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z on Amazon for around $170 total. There is currently no consistent domestic release of Z Kai because Parts 1-4 have been discontinued due to the Kenji Yamamoto music scandal, as have the Dragon Boxes. DBoxes 3 and 5-7 can easily be found for less that MSRP, but good luck buying 1, 2, and 4 for less than $150 each. Sure, you could opt for the Orange Bricks, but I would avoid them like the plague in lieu of a possible reprint of the Z Dragon Boxes.

So for now, I recommend buying every VIZBIG volume for both DB and DBZ. Read them at your own pace, and keep on the lookout for a good deal on Dragon Boxes 1, 2, and 4. If you can find any of them for less than $50 each, jump on that ASAP. You might as well grab 3 and 5-7 while they're still readily available.
It's been done countless times before, but...

Dragon Ball Z(Manga)>Dragon Ball Z(Anime)>Dragon Ball Kai(Anime)

Kai's a half-assed remake but it's still DBZ so why complain?

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

Complain about what exactly? Z or Kai? Your "ranking" and comment are sending mixed signals.

Anyway, people can complain about both for several reasons. Z can get horribly dragged out and the shoe-string budget really hinders the weekly show. Kai is, as you mentioned, a "half-assed" remake of said show.

Nobody has ever told me that Z was a drag the first time they ever watched it. They were glued to it.

I agree Z becomes a drag during the Freeza fight after Goku gets healed.

I was re-watching the Namek arc and I agree. It's great right up to when Goku arrives. It slows down incredibly after that!
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Majin Boo's arc has over 71 episodes.

Come to think of it, they could have given Raditz some filler time to get to know him, who he was, how he grew up, his parents, his friends, his life, etc.

Things I know about Raditz:
1. He's a Saiyan
2. He's Goku's brother
3. Worked for Lord Freeza
4. Died with his brother (Goku) by getting hit with Piccolo's Mankankosappo
5. Was from Planet Vegeta
6. He had a tail

Raditz is Goku's brother but who's his mother? Same as Son's or from another mother?

By the way, why did Raditz had such a long hair was that like a beta SSJ3 black hair?
