While you don't have to be a big fan of the property, you should be a fan of the story you are trying to tell.

I never saw the movie, and based on everything the rest of you said about it, I'm glad. :D

Ehhhh... that's a potentially dangerous rabbit hole to fall into. While creating a good product does require talented people who are both intimately familiar with and respectful of the source material, I wouldn't say it requires "fans." Bringing on "fans" is often a very terrible thing to do because they often lack objectivity not to mention the aforementioned talent. They're more interested in satiating their fan fantasies than they are in telling a good story.

That said, I have a hard time believing that any good live action Dragon Ball movie is possible, period.
I didn't think of it that way. You make a good point. I agree, though, that Dragon Ball just isn't a good series for live action, unfortunately... I'd like to be proven wrong though....

Freaking hate this movie. Like, I don't think I've ever hated a movie as much as this. It messed with my favorite series of all time and made a mockery of it. I wish having a copy of this movie would be illegal so nobody would watch it ever again.

Why weren't Tien or Krillin in it? Also why is Goku in highschool? Roshi? Roshi ain't that old.

I didn't really like the movie. A couple good scenes but mostly sucked.

However if they ever had the chance to do a movie on the Saiyan Saga and Namek Saga, they have potential to make it look cool.

Justin Chatwin would have been far better as spiderman than Goku.

That said, it's a horrible crime against humanity, and I hope Funi does an official rifftrax of it.

James Wong said that he was a fan of Dragon Ball and he wanted to do this movie for years. You can be a true fan of a franchise, but still fuck up. The Brothers Strause (Colin and Greg) love the Alien and Predator franchise, but they end up making a terrible film when they made the second AVP movie. I think fans don't always make stuff better then the official stuff that we get. DBM, Absalon and most AF fan fiction are worst then the stuff that Toei give us.

It was a pile of shit all on its own merits; I didn't care if it was faithful or not.

My thoughts are that we all should have seen this disaster coming when we found out that they cast a white guy for the role of Son Goku.

If Funi does a rifftrax for DBE, I hope Toei does a rifftrax for their original dub.

I kind of liked it. If I compare it to the anime, it's garbage, but on it's own without the comparison it''s not bad. Probably just me tho.

I think fans over hate DBE. Yeah it's bad but it's not like anyone had hope that it will be good. It was from the director of The One and the writer of The Big Hit. What can you expect? It's not like with Star Wars Episode I where everyone was hype for it and end up being a total let down.

Like I wrote, I had hopes it would be so bad it was good.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

Right, cause all that matters when casting someone for a role is their race. Not their looks, acting, gender etc...

So back in the day, I popped in the movie I downloaded clearly..... ''There is this Namek race, destroying planets, with their accomplice, Ozaru!''
Oh, fuck, it's going to be so retarded! I thought to myself since the demented intro.
And can you imagine that my brother 7 years old back then, who saw Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z before pretty much hated that movie. His words during rolling credits: ''Wow, that was shit and not dragon ball''

Justin Chatwin acting was awful and his role of Goku was just another Peter Parker type of character. I remember the actors that were rumor to play as Goku years before DBE were Tom Welling, Hugh Jackman and Eric Bana. I think Hugh Jackman would be the best choice since he is a good actor and he can act unlike Justin Chatwin. I remember the other rumor casting for the DBZ movie was:

Ray Park- Vegeta
Goldberg- Nappa
Jessica Alba- Bulma
Jason Bateman - Raditz
Chirstopher Judge - Piccolo
Daryl Sabara - Gohan

The guy's name is Son Goku. I'm sure you're well aware of where that name comes from, so I won't bother going into the whole spiel about Journey to the West.

When I'm watching a live action film, and there's a white guy named Son Goku, I just can't take it seriously. No where in life, in any part of the world, are you going to encounter someone who looks like Justin Chatwin, and has the name Son Goku. An Asian name is only fitting for an Asian person.

No..just no. You can argue that I'm Korean and Black so that makes me Asian but I look more black than Asian and I have an Asian name. I know many white people with Foreign style names and know other races that does it as well. Damon = German but black people still have it. Name is not exclusive to race. That's like saying foods and hair are only exclusive for a certain race
