A possible (read: fan) explanation on a Buu Question...

Yes, they are fan names. Unfortunatly, they are completely necessary in this case.

Off the top of my head, I think Grey Boo is Jyunsui Aku (pure evil), Super Boo is just Aku (evil), Buff Boo isn't mentioned (though the manga just calls him Dekai Majin Boo, or large/huge), Kid Boo is Jyunsui (Pure), and Mr. Boo is called Zen (Good).

I don't recall the name Fat Boo was given, but I remember that my dictionary said it meant "innocent."

Yes, I was actually looking all of this up the other day! :D
