Movie 12: Fusion Reborn

I know it's never gonna happen, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it would make a much better product. Again, I wasn't talking about money or expenses and all that crap, just what would be the best product.
Meh, I really can't take this further.
But we do agree that GT's music sucked, right?

I find it ironic that FUNi managed to maintain the original BGM for the entire original DragonBall series when it aired on cartoon network, one can only imagine how much money was paid as the episodes were aired a fair number of times, and that's a 153 episodes. I find it extremely cool that there's original DragonBall episodes on "Free Cartoons On-Demand" on digital cable, hell I watched a few eps of the Pilaf saga today (Boss Rabbit's Magic Touch being one, literally one of my favorite episodes in the entire DragonBall anime trilogy comedy-wise). Gotta love digital cable, while the episodes are the edited-dub version, they're still decently accurate and basically keeps all of the original music. Must be one of the reasons why I prefer the original DragonBall dub over the Japanese version, but don't get me wrong, I prefer the DragonBall Z and GT Japanese versions a hundred times over the American dub counterparts.

With DB I think what it was is that they didn't think it would do as good as Z so there was no reason to bother with the work of making a new BGM track for it. It'd be faster and simpler just to dish out the bucks for the original. And, probably, Toei charged less for the DB music than they'd wanted for the Z music.
As for the GT dub music, eh, it's ok. Let's just say I can live with it and leave it at that.

Same here. Menza's music is quite the departure from Faulconer's style (and neither of them are anything like the original score anyway), and while there's nothing great about it, it's nothing that out-and-out stops me from watching the GT dub. The one piece of Menza's BGM that's memorable for me is whatever's playing during the flashback of Goku and Vegeta's first fight, during the moment they both power up their energy attacks; it's the only thing that sounds like it has any "hope" in it.Xyex wrote:As for the GT dub music, eh, it's ok. While we're on the topic of BGM, I'll use it to swing the discussion back on topic (before somebody kills us) by mentioning that I've heard a lot of positives about the musical score for Movie 12 . . . I believe I can remember hearing in one particularly glowing review something to the effect of, "The music is wonderful and you'll be humming the tunes for days."
I'll have to wait until Fusion Reborn is released to know for sure, but one of the biggest complaints I've heard regarding DBZ music is that the soundtrack never changes much from the series BGM. Does this change for Movie 12?

Well, all of the movie BGM is composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi, who also did the regular TV music... so it's still in his style. And TONS of movie music ends up making its way into the TV series, so a lot of people may have it confused and think they hear music being repeated in the movies, but in actuality, it began in the movies and made its way over to the TV series.Li'l Lemmy wrote:I'll have to wait until Fusion Reborn is released to know for sure, but one of the biggest complaints I've heard regarding DBZ music is that the soundtrack never changes much from the series BGM. My absolutely favorite piece in DBZ movie 12, and I'm sure this goes for a lot of other people, is that instant after Gogeta's three kicks and he does that totally sexy spin around where it's focused on his head. And that BOOMING tune kicks in. HOLY CRAP. I've been dying for that bit on CD ever since I first got the movie, and I'm pissed to all hizzle that I can't get it.

I saw that particular bit in a music video (sans the original music, obviously), and though I can barely remember the scene now, it must have had enough of an impact that I can still remember it at all. It was since that day that I've been wondering about movie 12.VegettoEX wrote:My absolutely favorite piece in DBZ movie 12, and I'm sure this goes for a lot of other people, is that instant after Gogeta's three kicks and he does that totally sexy spin around where it's focused on his head. I'll have to make a point of listening for the music you're describing, EX . . . though if what you say is true, I wouldn't really have to; it'd hit me over the head. Just one more reason to look forward to the release!
(That good, is it?)

Hey I have to emit that Funi's dub has gotten a lot better with age, they have come a long way from Freeza saga. But I’m curious how they will handle Hitler and what not. I have a feeling that it wont be slaughtered to bad considering that DBZ is out of the limelight thus giving them a little more freedom (just look at the redub). I think that they will try to stay inline with the Japanese story.(I can only hope)

I'm not anticipating anything along the lines of al all-out slaughter, either . . . at least not in the same style as long ago. The music will certainly be different, and there's likely going to be at least that one line that will make us all go "Huh?" . . . but I expect the general translation will be largely faithful to its Japanese counterpart.TheMajinRedComet wrote:Hey I have to emit that Funi's dub has gotten a lot better with age, they have come a long way from Freeza saga. You do bring up a good point, after all; what we've seen with the redub could be indicitive of what FUNimation's treatment will be regarding these last few releases. I'm not going to make a big deal out of "curse words" in DBZ when obviously it should have been dubbed that way a long time ago, but it is a step in the right direction.
Though when referring to movie 12, I suppose what happens dub-wise depends on whether or not Hitler is actually mentioned by name in the original. Was he? If he wasn't, then I should at least expect that FUNi will give him a German accent.

I just realized something... movie 12 would be the perfect place for the Garlic Jr. 'circus music' to make it's return.
Though... admittedly... that would be hilarious IMO. XD

I really, really need to get back into the habit of posting.
If anything I pick up more information when I'm reading subtitles, how I managed to sit through all 291 episodes stoned (all the way through) reading those subtitles I don't know, even though I'm quite a good reader, I don't like it when there's about three lines worth of subs on the screen and I have to read fast, but I manage. But on the dub sometimes I won't catch something or I'll miss a few lines, and won't care, but on the sub I hang on to each and every word that shows up.
After watching the all of the dub, and then watching the originals after(I wish I just started on the subbed version), I realised how much more I understood it when I watched it in Japanese.
The subs say it how it is, sometimes in the dub something slightly, if not completely different, will be said, sometimes they use puns and sayings in the dub too, it's almost like it reduces the severety of some situations.
Bottom line the original is miles better.

Wait... there's music DURING the episodes of DBZ? I've been watching for all these years and didn't realize that? Seriously, I didn't know anime had BGM... guess I never really paid any attention.
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

That's because it's BACKGROUND music. It's so supposed to match and enchance the tone of the scene, not divert attention to it.Xyex wrote:The S wrote:Wait... there's music DURING the episodes of DBZ? I wonder if the majority of North American fans are like you and that's why FUNi's been brining in the noise-music lately.

Well, yes, I know it's supposed to just reside in the background and not really be obvious but... with me, you could MUTE the BGM of a show/movie and I wouldn't notice unless it was the focus of the scene (like the musical battle scenes in Sailor Moon) or their were lyrics to it. Other than that, nope, not gonna notice.Dayspring wrote:That's because it's BACKGROUND music. Games are a bit different though, for some reason. I'll note the BGM if it's not constantly there, changes a lot, or overrides the voice audio.

I like the rare shows like Samurai Jack where you can mute ALL audio and still follow everything that is going on with ease. Brilliant, brilliant show. Requires no audio track at all.
In Dragonballs case, I find that the lack thereof or over-bearing of certain BGM's can be a good thing. Funimation shows us that the art of silence is truly lost (to them, at least...geh) and other features from about the world show that sometimes the music is more important...
I kinda lost myself in that. Rant over.
