Anyway, his rank is 軍曹/Gunsou, "sergeant". A major in Japanese would be a 少佐/shousa.
This may seem hair-splitty, but the simple idea behind Muscle Tower is that the further up Goku goes, the higher the rank of the opponent. So he fights Sergeant Metallic, goes up a level, and meets Master Sergeant Murasaki.
