Website Requests/Suggestions
Re: Website Requests/Suggestions
Coming back at'cha with another request!
I don't know about other people, but it drives me bananas to see a picture, especially a large one, get reposted nonstop and needlessly stretch the page. They can be such an eyesore to scroll pass, and I think it borders on rude when members just jump on a quote train without thinking about it.
Is it possible to implement some CSS that automatically un-[img]s an image when it's quoted, reducing it to a link instead? Thanks in advance!

If possible, could this apply to .gifs too? I can barely load the avatar page due to a large gif posted there right now, and had the same problem with the Fan Works page a bit back.Tyro wrote:Coming back at'cha with another request!

To avoid double posting, is it possible for a multi-quote implementation. On the SSMB there was a multi-quote option that allowed multiple quotes to be made quickly, and easily.

In the reply page, look at the preview of the topic at the bottom. There are quote buttons on each post that you can click.dbzfan7 wrote:To avoid double posting, is it possible for a multi-quote implementation. Unless you mean you want to do multi-line quotes in response to a single post, then I don't think there's any simple way to do that.

Re: Website Requests/Suggestions
How about a function that automatically merges double posts made within a specific time period? For example, a newbie who goes on a replying spree would have all of their double posts compiled into one (provided nobody posted in-between them), but someone would also be able to revive an old (relevant) thread with a bump even if they were the last one to post.

He surely needs those you cited, DevilsCorpse, he surely needs.
I would like to contribute, as well. That would be an honor and funny.

There's not a section on the site that won't be updated with its appropriate information if it needs it.

Would you or another admin care to comment on my other suggestions? I'm not looking for special treatment, but it would be nice to know whether those ideas suck, if they're not fitting to the spirit of Kanzenshuu, if you plan to incorporate them, if they're good but you're going to wait to see how things flesh out, etc.VegettoEX wrote:It just an area that pulls data if a page is updated at all. There wasn't any word when I suggested the page toggling function, but one day it was suddenly there.
Edit: This page. This is exactly the reason I want images removed in quotes. I don't want to see the same goddamn images 4, 5, 6 times on the same page. It just reeks of lazy, shooting-the-shit posting.

I still think this is a good idea. Another option, one that I didn't consider before, would be to have quoted images/gifs automatically put in spoiler tags, if that would be easier.Kamiccolo9 wrote:If possible, could this apply to .gifs too? But the reason I'm posting is to ask if we can get an updated Kanzenban spine art down at the bottom of this page. It's been reprinted in the Chogashuu so getting a higher quality scan shouldn't be a problem anymore. I know you guys like to keep this kind of stuff in-house, but I'd be happy to scan it for you.
Re: Website Requests/Suggestions
Being one of those "there's also a site" people I tend not to check the Kanzenshuu in other ways then via the forum and so miss important info/news. I recently started thinking that maybe it would be possible to include the news box (that each user could turn on/off depending on his preferences) somewhere on the forum so that people like me wouldn't miss the most important stuff.
And yes, I know that the mods and webmasters have a lot to do - so this is a suggestion for some faraway future.
And secondly also yes, I know that I could just remember to check the main website but:
- if I haven't gotten used to it in the really many years I have spent browsing Daizex/Kanzenshuu's forums, I probably won't - I actually remember all the times I went to the main site of my own accord (and not via some link pointing me to it from somewhere else) and they number an astounding number of 4 times in like 10 years
- the design of the main website is just so cluttered that I have trouble finding my way there - for example only now I found out that when I scroll far enough down on the main website I find the very news box [RECENT NEWS POSTS] I'm asking for (only I'd rather see it on the forums)
Though it may seem so, this post is not meant to be criticising or self-entitled - I really appreciate the work the Kanzenshuuers are performing and I'm immensely grateful for it. I only thought that it would really improve my browsing experience and that maybe it would also be of use to others. So feel free to ignore it, if you don't like it

Re: Website Requests/Suggestions
The main page of the website is PRIMARILY news. News stories are both coded with a red title bar and tagged as "News" (whereas, for example, a podcast is coded in blue and with the appropriate tag). Looking at the website right now, of the ten stories that comprise the front page: 7 are news, 2 are content additions, and 1 is a podcast episode. I'd say it's pretty easy to find news.Tzigi wrote:for example only now I found out that when I scroll far enough down on the main website I find the very news box [RECENT NEWS POSTS] I'm asking for (only I'd rather see it on the forums)
I'm sure that comes off as "defensive", but I'm not sure what else we can do to tell you "HEY DAWG WE GOTS NEWS!" then to say... umm... did you actually look at the text on the page...? We don't do clickbait news or article titles. It's obvious when a news story is a news story.
The optional slidedown bar at the top of the forum (with the main website, podcast, rules, etc. links) was created to address some of what you're talking about (the "I don't even know there's a website!" people). It used to automatically come down, but people (including us) found that intrusive.
We can't make people visit the website. That much we know. That being said, if you visit the website and can't tell where the news is, we're either totally oblivious as designers or you're totally oblivious as a visitor. I'm not sure there's a middle-ground there. Maybe there is, but I guess that would play into us being totally oblivious.

Re: Website Requests/Suggestions
Yes, the main page is almost exclusively news but what I wanted was to be reminded that the main page/any news are there. I tend to forget it - I only access the forum and I was asking about an integration of news info with the browsing experience of the forum. I know that it's me who's the problem - if only I remembered that there's a website, the problem would be non-existent. Also see further down my post.VegettoEX wrote:The main page of the website is PRIMARILY news. It seems I have grown so used to it that I forgot that those two arrows actually do have a purpose. And they may be the solution to my problem - if for example the "board preferences" panel included the possibility of the slidedown bar either coming automatically down or not (as is the case now) and if the space to the right of "User CP" included the recent news taglines, then it would be precisely what I asked for. Still, I may be the only so inattentive Kanzenshuu-forum-user there is, so maybe there's no need to do this but if you ever could (I know that now with FnF, Super and all those things your time is becoming even more scarce then ever), I'd be really grateful.VegettoEX wrote: The optional slidedown bar at the top of the forum (with the main website, podcast, rules, etc. links) was created to address some of what you're talking about (the "I don't even know there's a website!" people). Actually I think that there is a problem with finding one's way on the website - not with the news themselves but with finding relevant info. The cataloguing isn't done in a user-friendly way and that's not only my opinion. Finding a relevant statement in for example one of Toriyama's interviews is easy only when one knows where to look for it in the first place. Otherwise the best option is to use Google and restrict the search to Kanzenshuu. And that's quite definitely a problem that others have as well - 2 out of those 4 times I mentioned going to the website directly concerned exactly helping different people find relevant info here. They couldn't find it, I couldn't either but Google helped. So yeah, that is a real problem but I guess it's quite hard to fix.

OK, but like you said: that's not news, that's content.Tzigi wrote:Actually I think that there is a problem with finding one's way on the website - not with the news themselves but with finding relevant info. If you want to specifically address "Toriyama said such-and-such", here are two types of ways we've tried to alleviate that search burden:
Everything in our "Translations" section is tagged and there is a tag filter on the right. You can specifically search and highlight by, for example, things "Akira Toriyama" said in "V-Jump", or anything about a "Video Game" that was exclusively printed "Online".
And if you don't even know what you're looking for, we try to list all relevant things in all relevant places. The "Battle of Gods" page in our "Movie Guide", for example, lists all relevant quotes from production staff with links to the full interviews they came from. There are pages like "Character Fates" in the "Tidbits" section that collect all related items that come from various interviews over a period of decades.
So yes, the information is overwhelming. You know it, and we know it. By taking a couple of seconds to look at what's there, though, you'll see that we actually have done a ton of that legwork for you.
But yeah, if you don't have any real idea about what you're looking for... no, of course you're not going to be able to find it. The best we can do is organize things logically, and help you stumble upon what you're looking for. There's nothing wrong with digging!

It's nice that there are tags to help narrow down the search. They've saved me a decent chunk of time on more than one occasion. It would be infinitely more helpful sometimes if you could actually use more than one of them at a time though. Right now, your examples aren't really possible as selecting anything from the tag filters renders the rest unclickable until you reset the field.VegettoEX wrote:If you want to specifically address "Toriyama said such-and-such", here are two types of ways we've tried to alleviate that search burden:
