Re: Broly The legendary Super Saiyan coming to Toonami
Is it just me, or is it a strange mood whiplash of movies to fall on that night? As the first Broly movie is pretty much equivalent to a PG movie, that's followed by the officially R-rated Akira. (For you foreigners, "R-rating" means for adults and in theaters no one under 17 is admitted without a guardian).

Because Movie 8 clrealy has score that doesn't fitEXBadguy wrote:Soon as I hear Kikuchi's music in the movie, I'm changing the channel. I don't wanna hear any silence, tambourines, and dumb clarinets while Goku has getting pulverized by a Saiyan tank, I expect to hear hard metal, which fitted well for the movies IMO. So...yeah, I'll accept that if the composer will be Crapkuchi, but I'll watch something else as soon as I hear ONE TUNE from him.
BTW, why are they using him again? Is it because of contract issues or something?

I take it that you never seen Watership Down and the Hammer Christopher Lee Dracula movies since those were PG (Expect for Taste the Blood of Dracula, Scars of Dracula and The Satanic Rites of Dracula). The final scene of Watership down had a rabbit got blood oozing out everywhere after he was killed from a dog. Watership Down is rated PG and is based on a children's novel. Dracula Has Risen from the Grave has a scene where Dracula gets stab in the chest and blood is everywhere, it's rated G!! Dracula A.D 1972 also has Dracula killed by a fall into a pit of stakes and it was pretty brutal for a PG movie. The first movie, "Horror of Dracula" had several scenes depicting stakes being hammered into people's hearts and it was rated PG.Dbzk1999 wrote: A father begging his child to be spared only to be nearly killed and that baby being shown getting stabbed and left to die is pg?

The unofficial American music won't be used again because from now on they'll always use the official soundtracks but if you still want your unofficial American scores then watch the FUNimation home releases.
Quite a shame they're going to broadcast a Broli film of all things, they would've been better airing M#1, M#2, M#3, M#12 or M#13 than this boredom.

Re: Broly The legendary Super Saiyan coming to Toonami
I never listening to the original score for Z at all because it just never felt very unique or character based or situation cued like BF's music was for the most part. I always thought DB and GT handled the music better in its uniqueness and conceptual tunes. For the movies though, as shared for my thoughts on Z, post-Cooler I cant listen to the japanese songs. I prefer the Disturbed soundtrack solely for the atmosphere of the rough action which is really all the movies are good for anyway. What use are emotional scenes and such for noncanon wave-aways?EXBadguy wrote:Soon as I hear Kikuchi's music in the movie, I'm changing the channel. P.S. Though I think its not specically just that reason. The reason they arent going to use the song again is more so copyright usage & the complaints from the loud outcries of purism that Funimation had to sit through at the yearly comic-con before Kai.

If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.
Re: Broly The legendary Super Saiyan coming to Toonami
There was no PG-13 rating when Jaws was made. Same for the Hammer Dracula movies and Watership Down. Red Dawn (1984) was the first PG-13 movie.Super Sonic wrote:It's been awhile since I've seen it, but wasn't Jaws more bloody than the first Broly movie?
Re: Broly The legendary Super Saiyan coming to Toonami
It's most popular because of this idea that Broli is the strongest thing ever. The earlier films had more plot; the only thing really good about Broli is Vegeta showing a more human side in it.
They barely had a plot and they certainly weren't any good, no more than the first Broly movie anyway. The Broly movie was the longest of the lot, a good 25 minutes longer than a bunch of them, it had more action, by far the best fight, better animation than most and a more memorable villain than any of the others who wasn't just a wannabe version of a villain from the series.

Such a petty attack to defend the American scores even I've read better comebacks than this on YouTube of all places.jjgp1112 wrote:I don't think that word means what you think it means.
But I'll give you that it's 'official' at least in the country it was produced for while the rest got the authentic soundtrack (by Shunsuke Kikuchi / Tokunaga), yes, there are some exceptions when European countries (Scandinavian & UK) got DBZ with the Ocean Dub or the FUNi dub which both had custom made scores.

You are ridiculously out-of-line in this thread (not to mention borderline-incomprehensible, but I'll chock that up for the non-native-English-speaking situation; the attitude, however, has nothing to do with language comprehension, and is entirely on purpose). I've issued a strike against your account, and more will follow if this behavior continues. For you and everyone else, strikes add up to temporary/permanent bans, which revoke access to the entirety of the Kanzenshuu website (news posts, guides, podcast, forum, etc.).dbboxkaifan wrote:Such a petty attack to defend the American scores even I've read better comebacks than this on YouTube of all places.

Are you sure about that? Although it was probably because it was the edited cut, all of Nicktoons Network's airings of the DBZ movies and specials contained the original cuts containing the dub music and even Dale Kelly's narration.dbboxkaifan wrote:Let it go, guys.

Was the hate for Kai largely unjustified?

The story of Kai's production is far more interesting than the actual product.

I might be wrong about this, but according to the cast research I've done, only the two Specials actually originally had Dale Kelly's narration before the Double Feature. Movie 4 was dubbed around the time of the Buu arc, when they switched over to Hyle Hebert, again pre-Orange Bricks.Arian wrote:

I am aware FUNimation started dubbing the movies in 2001, following the departure of Kelly. I was just making the point that the original dub versions are still being used in some instances.Valerius Dover wrote:I might be wrong about this, but according to the cast research I've done, only the two Specials actually originally had Dale Kelly's narration before the Double Feature. Re: Broly The legendary Super Saiyan coming to Toonami
So did anyone watch this tonight? They kept the Japanese music which is good but the movie is still enjoyable to me in Japanese. It could be my nostalgia but I think the movie was more fun watching in Japanese. I wish I still had that bootleg tape somewhere.

Re: Broly The legendary Super Saiyan coming to Toonami
Thank god for that. I'm a big supporter of all the replacement music and most of the time prefer it to the original Japanese BGM, but that nu metal stuff FUNi used in the movies was just awfully misplaced. It gave the impression that DBZ was for and made by musclebound idiots. I'm pretty sure the music wasn't used because then they'd have to pay royalties to the bands (eg Pantera) since it was being aired on TV.Hellspawn28 wrote:They kept the Japanese music

I actually thought that it worked fairly well during the big fight in Movie 5, but I agree that it's for the best that the heavy metal stuff was removed. It gives a totally different feel to the movies.Kakacarrottop wrote:Thank god for that.
