What's the big deal? It comes out to own two weeks later anyway. Most of you are acting as if this is your only chance to see it ever.

Curse Square and their inherit delaying of a U.S. release of Advent Children...
You know what? I would be excited, except I'm betting that it won't release even in my state.

Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

I agree. I admit first and foremost if this comes to a local theater around my area, I will make a trip to see it. However, I definitely won't be making more than one trip. This'll just be the dub, most likely Uncut of course, but nonetheless just the dub. Now, if the Japanese version were to be shown following the dub of movie 12 rather than movie 6, I'd definitely relish that up. If Turner Classic Movies can do that, why can't it happen for movie 12? But regardless, we'll just be getting the dub of movie 12, so I agree that the DVD being released has a lot more worth to me than this theater showing.Dayspring wrote:What's the big deal? By the way, I kind of had my suspicions about movie 12's release when I first saw its "trailer" on movie 11's DVD, kind of odd to just use a still image like that for just a DVD release.

On other DBZ Movie news, Fox still holds the rights to the DBZ live-action movie. They are still looking for a director through Hollywood trade magazines, according to what VegettoEX calls "an anime trash magazine", Anime Insider. Doing pretty good work for trash, huh?

I thought by now FOX had forgotten about those rights..

Well, actually it IS a big deal. It's really sad if you consider yourself a Dragonball fan and aren't a little excited about a Dragonball movie comming to theaters. Now Iam not saying you MUST go and see it, cause if you rather wait two weeks thats fine, and like you said its not that its your only chance to see this movie, but if you have been a Dragonball fan way back in fan-sub days you have probley dreamed about a theatrical release of any Dragonball movie. What's the big deal? It's like when they re-released Star Wars in theaters. Sure you could go up the block to the video store and rent it, but seeing it in the movies is a gazillion times better and ontop of all of this anime isnt such a mainstream property as to get casual theatrical releases. If any Dragonball movie was coming to theaters I'd probley go and see it just for the hell of it, but its not just any Dragonball movie its freakin movie 12!

It depends on what kind of 'fan' you are. There is no conventional rule on having to like theatrical releases.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Well, actually it IS a big deal. It's really sad if you consider yourself a Dragonball fan and aren't a little excited about a Dragonball movie comming to theaters.

And yes, a large appeal to those who have already seen the movie before, may be the theatrical screen.

I'm a huge fan and I'm not excited. I prefer to not watch the dub.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Well, actually it IS a big deal. It's really sad if you consider yourself a Dragonball fan and aren't a little excited about a Dragonball movie comming to theaters.

It just depends on what you want out of the series. Some people are excited about this, and that's fine. Some people don't care and that's fine too.
No, sad is accusing me of not being a real fan because I don't want to take a roadtrip to see the possibly edited dub in theatres. Woohoo! Fuck whether I actually do like the series, real fans only like Dragonball if it's on the big screen! And for the record, I have been a fan since before the fansubs and still don't want to see the dub in theatres!Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Well, actually it IS a big deal. Actually Dayspring, I said " Now Iam not saying you MUST go and see it, cause if you rather wait two weeks thats fine" I was just pointing out that as a fan you should be a little happy that we might get a theatrical release. It's not a common thing to happen for an anime other then Pokemon so for it to happen to Dragonball is pretty cool. No, sad is accusing me of not being a real fan because I don't want to take a roadtrip to see the possibly edited dub in theatres
Well, Whatever Iam not about to start a whole topic that is post after post of me and you answering each other back.

Edit: Let's also keep in mind this might just be a hoax, FUNimation has not mentioned anything about this and there are no links to this so called "FUNimation Films Website" anywhere on any FUNimation based website.

Whether the theatrical release shows the dub or even just an edited version of it, and despite the fact that it precedes the DVD release by a mere two weeks, and no matter whether I or you or that guy or this other person drives out to go see it? . . . a release of this style can only help to make more people aware of Dragonball who aren't (y'know, that one guy), maybe pull in a few new fans and expand the fan base.

You folks do know that not every theater will be getting viewings of these movies, right? >_> Chances are they'll be in the theaters way down in the corner of the city that no one really goes to. XD
Too bad I can't stand the English dub. Can't say I'm not at all excited. Woulda been nice if they had an English dub and a Japanese subbed screening. Wishful thinking, though. XP

So many of you are displeased about how it's the American dub being shown and not the original. I have to say, although it's disappointing, you can’t really expect Funimation to show the Japanese version as their first theatrical project. All they're doing is testing the waters with this viewing.
Hopefully, in the future, if this gets a good response from the public, they WILL have a theatrical viewing of a Subbed Movie, but it won't happen without support from the fans. It's truly disheartening to hear people saying that just because Funi didn't produce everything they wanted on their first try, that's it's not worth going to see.
Sure, it's not exactly what EVERYONE likes, but it certainly is a step in the right direction. I'm not telling everyone to go out and see it on opening day, because I'm well aware that the dub is far from flawless, and many fans just can't stand certain aspects of it. But this is Dragonball in theatres. You can at least support the idea and where it's going.
Maybe when the new fan base they acquire from these theatrical releases is large enough they will start to show some anime movies in their original format, but it'll never happen unless the public is exited and supportive of the idea.

Of course, in all realism.ShadowAssailantX wrote:... you can’t really expect Funimation to show the Japanese version
Well, it's disheartening yes, though it's inevitable through exchanging preferences.ShadowAssailantX wrote:It's truly disheartening to hear people saying that just because Funi didn't produce everything they wanted on their first try, that's it's not worth going to see. ... While I do support the idea 100% solely because of it being Dragon Ball per se, I wouldn't want to see it at all due to personal preferences. This has nothing to do with whether I would encourage other people to see it or not - the answer to which would of course be full encouragement.
Well, there is a chance of that happening although very slim.ShadowAssailantX wrote:Maybe when the new fan base they acquire from these theatrical releases is large enough they will start to show some anime movies in their original format, but it'll never happen unless the public is exited and supportive of the idea.
However, I would think that in the (unlikely) event that FUNi decides to show the Japanese version subbed, it would be due to FUNi milking every last possible drop of the profits from the English dub, rather than anything to do with considerate reasons for fans of the original. Either way - support or non-support of the upcoming release - I doubt it would cross the mind of FUNi that it would be a good idea to show the original version subbed in theaters, due to obvious problems of audience and popularity.
