"Legally"? Well, I won't insert real issues about it, but still, names coming from the parents >> names coming from someone who happened to find you somewhere.

Tell me where I did say it's a "problem".

You certainly aren't wrong calling him "Son Goku", at most, it would serve as a nickname, but the real one is the one that came from the parents, the truly "legally" one.

A looooot of people (myself included) strongly dislike being called by their legal/birth name, for all kinds of reasons, and you kinda look like a massive jerk if you insist on it anyway.

(I don't mind people calling Goku by his Saiyan name, I mean Vegeta does it all the time in-universe and Goku doesn't seem to mind it, at least after the initial "Vegeta = the main bad guy who wants to kill us all" period is over... but the "it's legally their name" argument is extremely dangerous shaky ground when it comes to real people.)

He expressly rejects his birth name on several occasions. Son Goku is the name he grew up with and chooses to identify himself with. I'm sure if you told him "Son Goku" was just a nickname he wouldn't be happy. If someone you knew had a sex change and changed their name to Katy, would you insist on continuing to call them Chuck because it "came from the parents" and their new name is a "nickname"? If "truly 'legally'" is what you're going for, shouldn't you refer to Marilyn Monroe as Norma Baker too? Do you use "Kal-El" every time you mention Superman? Same deal.

Leaving aside real-life issues, I don't really care what you call him, but we're talking about a fictional character who universally goes by "Goku" in all media worldwide. Using "Kakarrot" makes you sound like you're incessantly role-playing Vegeta. Or Saiyan-Professor.

Indeed it is, that's why yes. I call "Superman" Kal-El. You just haven't seen yet, but whenever I am talking about him and I have to use his name, I use Kal-El.

Never heard of them, at least not by those names. And as for "Stanley Lieber"... Sometimes. It depends on how lazy I am on the day.

Though his case is not in any comparable to Kakarot. He in fact and legally changed his name, Kakarot didn't. It was another person who isn't anything related to him that decided to call him by another name.

You've definitely heard of at least most of them.
Mark Twain, Lewis Carroll, Lemony Snicket, George Orwell, and Stan Lee.

If my first name was James, but I went by my hypothetical middle name, Robert, would you insist on calling me James, even though I've asked you not to?

Because Goku has repeatedly denied the identity of Kakarot. And Gohan had much more right to call himself a parent to Goku than Bardock did.
