Congrats. I, on the only hand, owe the feds about $300 because withholdings from my bonuses from last year weren't done correctly by payroll >_<;;

Ah well, not that big a deal, just was kinda hoping for some sort of refund.

Yeah me too.
I nearly missed out on the GT Dragon Box though since I too am a student and had to save up in advance. Luckily I was able to do so by knowing in advance and having the luck that the first Dragon Boxes weren't only Pre-Order.
The Dragon Movie Box is the only one I pre-ordered and I am counting the days.

I find it a pity that I don't know the translations of the first 2 Dragon Movies though my Japanese isn't good enough.
Other than that I have practically made and printed scripts which I keep next to the Boxes for reference. It really has been the best thing I ever have gotten and I can Thank Vegetto-Ex for that since I wouldn't have known if I didn't regularly visited his site back then.
But it is only 2 movies, I am not aware of what they say in Goku's traffic adventures either, only a small price too pay for such a nice set.

Showing themselves to be on top of things as ever, they just emailed me today saying there's been a change in shipping date. It's estimated to go out Wednesday, so I'm guessing I'll have it Friday-ish.

Craps, I was counting on this delay to actually get the appropriate funds nessecary to buy this. Not that I won't be able to get this, but I do have a quick question- Does Amazon.jp allow you to create payment arrangements/schedules for orders? If so, it'd be much more preferable, since I won't have to then borrow money (I HATE doing that).

I don't quite understand, there was a delay. It was supposed to ship almost a month ago O_o;;

No, unfortunately they don't. Closest you can do is use a credit card and pay that off in increments.

Just to throw my hat in here, I am getting quite excited for this release. I've had it pre-ordered since god knows when, and it's finally, finally arriving (assuming no more delays =/).

So, yeah, even though (as of today, which is 4/8/06 -- 9:20pm) it's still another 6 days away, I am excited as hell about the prospect of owning something I would both enjoy to watch, and enjoy having as a collectors item sitting in my tv stand. I've never had any collectors items (unless you count a picture drawn and signed by Kyle Hebert circa 2001, or 2002; I forget).

By the way, guys (Tsukento, MajinVegitaXV), mind if I steal a review/comparison in there somewhere? lol.

Feel free to. :P Only movies I can do that MajinVegitaXV can't are DB movies 2 and 4 and Z movies 10 and 12. I call major dibs on Z 12. XP

Hahaha. Conan told me in the chat I should do movie 12, since I was bitching so much about my non-timely arrival that I paid to BE timely. (Of the dub, mind.)

Of course, I respect your dibs and am incredibly flexible. My only fault line lies in the area of my ownership of the DVD of the movie or movies I'd be comparing.

Edit:
The ones I can track down are: [Note: I am going to go by dub title, to simplify my referencing.]
- The Path to Power [Edited]
- Deadzone (Ultimate Uncut, I don't have the Pioneer release.)
- The Worlds Strongest (Pioneer)
- Super Android 13 [Edited]
- Broly the Legendary Supersaiyan [Uncut]
- Broly the Seconding Coming [Uncut]

(Sadly I am far too lazy in my dvd collecting. I really need to get the rest on DVD. XD)

So, yeah, I could easily take a few off your hands there MajinVegita, if you're interested. I'd totally be willing to go with 7, and 8 and Path to Power unless you've got dibs on em'. Heh.
[I figure since this is a comparison, other than noting the quality of the Japanese audio, it would be virtually irrelevant, since from my point of view the comparison at best is the presentation dub vs. the reprinted/remastered original version distrobution.)

On a side note, I really should have ordered out the uncuts of a few of those movies a long, long time ago.

Sure thing. I'll do Pioneer's DBZ Movie 1-3 (unless you want one of those) and FUNi's Movie 5, Movie 6 and Movie 9. I can also do DB Movie 3.

All I'm gonna do is a few screen caps (10 or so) per movie, split in half and in PNG format to show an exact comparision, and post the actual video bitrates. I'll post the audio bitrates as well, but we all know it's very little difference (save for the pops occasionally on FUNi's masters, which even I don't blame on them).

Sounds good to me.

I am thinking this will be a fun excercise in fandom. 8)

I have the uncut version of the fourth DB movie, perhaps that would be better. o.o

Y'know, I've wanted to know but is there even any visual quality differences between the Pioneer and FUNimation Dead Zone DVDs? o_o Similar to how there's quality differences with Arrival, Saiyan Showdown and Dragon Box. If so, perhaps all three should be compared together. :o

Actually, yes there is a bit of difference. The Pioneer distribution is a bit dirty, and grainy; not too bad for the generation of dvd it is though.

Then the Funimation reprint was cleaned [well, filtered to hell would be more accurate] the same way as had been done to the other Ultimate Uncut dvds (as it shares the branding) that the company is producing right now.

Although I don't have the dvd as of the this time of posting, I did see them both at one point to compare, and well, the UU version of the movie is just a bit darker, and loses a bit of the detail. [Mike's comparison between the DVD's of UU, and the Dragonbox would be topical subject matter to read into.]

In all honesty, as much as I like a pristine presentation; I am not really bothered by the quality of it, like some people have been.

Yes, there are quality differences between the Pioneer and FUNimation DVD's, because FUNimation has got a new master, thus making some improvement in the video, making it better better than Pioneer's.

However, the dubbed dialogue and the music are far from the original, whereas the Pioneer's dubbed dialogue is very close to the original, and the music stays intact.

To my knowledge, the masters have always been the same.

Fair enough. Perhaps we could work on a split image comparison, as we were talking about that was done for the site where we each present a version of Dead Zone (I've only got the Pioneer release, soon to have the Dragon Box version as well).

That was what I was thinking, for those with multiple releases.

Also, it ships tomorrow. Assuming Amazon is right, that is. Damn I'm psyched, the collection will finally be complete...

I could very well be wrong here, but according to my checking Amazon just now about it, and it says it ships on the 13th; so that would be the day after tommorow it ships. Unless, of course, you live somewhere where it's already the 12th, that is.

It ships from Japan on the 13th, and Japan is a day ahead of us. So, it'll ship from Japan tomorrow, which is the 12th here but the 13th there.

You know, when replying I didn't even consider that probability, or consider their time-zone difference. Although, I probably should considered the part about Japan being a day ahead, since I did mention it in relation to your own time-zone. A bit of a "dur" moment.

Oh well. Atleast it'll be shipping out, and hopefully be here timely [as I paid for it to be].

Definitely getting excited for its arrival. I do so much like getting packages.

Well, I have a good history of getting it on Friday when it ships Wednesday, so I'm hoping. And I live in Northern Virginia, so I'd think anyone closer would have even less of a wait.

And yes, packages are nice. I need to dial it down for a bit personally though, until I get some stuff paid off ;)
