4 Years After the Dragon Box Survey

Re: 4 Years After the Dragon Box Survey
Part of me isn't without sympathy for Funimation, they've tried releasing the series with better quality multiple times in 4:3 before and it's apparently never sold awfully well. Granted, this is mostly the product of poor planning on Funimation's part, because the level sets were released far sooner than they should have been. I imagine they would have sold much better if they released today and our current Blu Ray sets didn't exist.
It is what it is, sadly. I'm grateful for Kai though. Maybe a few years down the line Funimation will try again. Until then, I'll get what I can afford Dragon Box wise, get the level sets, and then consider getting the rest via the Japanese Box singles if it isn't too outrageous.

If they were to redo the survey and take it into consideration for DVD/BR decision making, I would say the chances of GT getting a BR release would be really high as compared 4 years.

It has Dragon Ball in the title. They would sell well. They're not as popular as Z, but they still sell.sintzu wrote:Maybe what Toie was asking was to much and they didn't think they'd be able to make a good profit due to the remaining boxes not being Z.

Those that know better will always have to suffer, sadly the casuals will believe whatever funi throws at their faces. But this was caused by funimation themselves, and I'm talking about the whole widescreen fiascoDarkton wrote:Quite frankly, I'm starting to worry about the franchise right now over here.
-Z Boxes out of print, remaining boxes AWOL.
-Kai Buu and Super are missing despite the former being made specifically for international markets.
-FUNi considers DB, DBZ, DBGT, and DBKai separate products, given each different treatment.
-Primary methods of purchasing the former three are sloppily-done, appealing to people who can't tell the didiley-ifference.
-Consumer feedback is ignored constantly.
And this seems to be the only franchise that gets this kind of treatment. Everything else gets treated just fine, but there's just so much nostalgia for the old dub that FUNi actually makes more money when they appeal to them! Or did you think providing fans who grew up on the beloved Ocean Dub or cheap-as-free Season Sets were inconsequential to the release of current DBZ products?
Fact is, Dragon Ball doesn't get good treatment. The Manga's never been released uncut and was never translated properly. The anime's been getting dud release after dud release. And all this stems from nostalgia from the older era of fans seeing these versions as pure and awesome!
At least I have all the Z Boxes. I actually got my Box 7 at a discount DVD shop, if that means anything.

I'm not sure how you get to that. Aside from post-revival material, the only US release of the series that has been based off of a Japanese release has been the Dragon Boxes, and that's because the Dragon Boxes (and their repackaged singles) has been the only release Japan has ever gotten.Bardo117 wrote:Idk if anybody realized but most of our US releases are based off Japanese releases so until Toei releases their own Blu-Ray Dragonboxes don't start thinking too much about it
