4 Years After the Dragon Box Survey
So in February 2012, FUNimation released a survey for people to take asking them what they wanted with future potential Dragon Box releases. Everyone was pumped! We though FUNi was getting their act with Dragon Ball together. Of course we know now that nothing came of it. Do you wish something had came of it? Or even if they just told us what the results were and if they weren't enough? I wish they released at least a Dragon Ball Dragon Box. Because it sucks that for some stupid reason, the Ocean Dub of DBZ got a new collector's edition type release, but nothing for the original series! Not even Dragon Boxes for the movies.

Does anyone have a list of the questions asked? Id like to re-vist them since I can't belive it's been that long! But just the season blurays were a result of that poll right? Kind of a waste..

The Season Blu-rays were the result of a different poll asking about potential DBZ release on Blu-ray after the Level sets failed.eledoremassis02 wrote:Does anyone have a list of the questions asked? EDIT: Also, the link still works to the DBox survey! https://s.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22EPHHCB8R6

Re: 4 Years After the Dragon Box Survey
To play devil's advocate on this thing, I think one misstep on the fault of fans was that a lot of people didn't seem to get or understand what a survey even is. Occasionally, you'd even hear it referred to as a "poll." It was meant to gauge what type of interest there was in the products they were selling; they look at it internally and aren't really under any obligation to either A) listen to or utilize the information, or B) release the "results" of what people said or "voted" for.
Now with that out of the way, it's just another example in a laundry list of bullshit "choices" being offered to fans that never gave something like the aspect ratio a second thought in the first place. It's the same idea with replacement scores and "remastered" footage. If they don't put out the ludicrous notion that you can or should watch DBZ in 16:9, there wouldn't be a need for a survey in the first place. If you don't propagate that DB and DBZ are different shows, you don't have people running around screaming the original score "fits better" with one than the other does.
I guess I'm kind of confused why nothing has been done with the original series. i know there's no Z on it, but it still says "Dragon Ball". I speak with no access to FUNimation's numbers, but would a DBOX of the first series really not do as well than... Hell, I don't know, Tokyo Ghoul? Space Dandy? You know, flavors-of-the-month? GT is kind of a separate discussion, but also not really. I don't buy "it doesn't sell like Z" as an excuse when this stuff was still on Toonami in the afternoon every day and basically carrying that block and reaching millions of people.

Re: 4 Years After the Dragon Box Survey
Are Space Dandy and Tokyo Ghoul only flavor of the months? I mean, I would love a Dragon Ball Dragon Box, but part of me feels FUNi is okay with the Blue Bricks, despite them not having the Japanese title cards, correct openings and closings, and no NEPs.B wrote:I guess I'm kind of confused why nothing has been done with the original series. i know there's no Z on it, but it still says "Dragon Ball". Re: 4 Years After the Dragon Box Survey
The poll that was 4 years ago was asking about future Dragon Boxes. The one that caused the cropped season sets were a completely different survey where FUNi said they were planning on restarting DBZ on Blu-ray after the level sets.eledoremassis02 wrote:Oh didnt that poll aslo ask about future Dragon boxes? Re: 4 Years After the Dragon Box Survey
It seems like they just finished the Blu-Ray version of the Orange Bricks.
Maybe in a couple years we'll see a Blu-Ray version of Dragon Boxes.
If they do a Blu-Ray for Dragon Boxes... I hope they include a few more things than the original Dragon Boxes.
English Broadcast Options/ features would be great

Wishful thinking at it's best, just take out the English dub in its entirety and I'll be fine, but give us the rock the dragon opening, because why not.Ozotto wrote:It seems like they just finished the Blu-Ray version of the Orange Bricks.

Re: 4 Years After the Dragon Box Survey
I would have loved if they released the original Dragonball Dragonboxes or the movies in Dragonbox quality. that would have been such great releases but sadly they didn't.
I still have a little hope that they will but I'm afraid that ship has done sailed.

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

You do realize the Dragon Box was meant to appeal to the sub fans, right? FUNimation has catered to the dub fans for years. In fact, they still are.Ozotto wrote:It seems like they just finished the Blu-Ray version of the Orange Bricks.

Well we did get the best dvd release so it kinda makes up for it, of course I'm talking about the dbox.ShadowDude112 wrote:You do realize the Dragon Box was meant to appeal to the sub fans, right? Re: 4 Years After the Dragon Box Survey
We did get the best DVD release, but there are fans like me who were never able to buy them while they were actually on the market. Even the dub fans deserve better, we still don't have a terribly great option to watch the series in its original aspect ratio that is at a reasonable price. I myself wouldn't be upset if we didn't get another home release for a while, because we can at least own the series and watch it in Japanese, but still. At least Kai, from what I understand, got a good home release.

So you're one of the unlucky ones, it's a shame because the dboxes are not worth it anymore. They became ridiculously overpriced, and now we have the shitty blu rays.Wezenheim wrote:We did get the best DVD release, but there are fans like me who were never able to buy them while they were actually on the market. This whole thing is crazy, funi just needs to stop playing with people. This should've been released good sales or not its a dbox the most perfect release out, who wouldn't buy it.

Haha yeah, I missed out! I'm going to try to get box five sometime this year, but there's no telling if or when I'll get the other ones, especially box two and the other really expensive ones. Thankfully we have the level sets for (most) of the Saiyan arc and the first Dragon Box isn't too bad on Ebay most of the time. Still, darn shame.Ddd wrote:So you're one of the unlucky ones, it's a shame because the dboxes are not worth it anymore. I like the audio quality of the Blu Rays, and I don't "hate" them, but they definitely aren't great.
Funimation will be in a bit of a hole for a while. Any release they put out now, no matter the quality, will probably not sell terribly well thanks to these current sets. Our only slim hope is that maybe they'll put more Dragon Boxes on the market again, even if it's only for a short time again. I don't think that's likely though.

Re: 4 Years After the Dragon Box Survey
Idk if anybody realized but most of our US releases are based off Japanese releases so until Toei releases their own Blu-Ray Dragonboxes don't start thinking too much about it

Re: 4 Years After the Dragon Box Survey
Quite frankly, I'm starting to worry about the franchise right now over here.
-Z Boxes out of print, remaining boxes AWOL.
-Kai Buu and Super are missing despite the former being made specifically for international markets.
-FUNi considers DB, DBZ, DBGT, and DBKai separate products, given each different treatment.
-Primary methods of purchasing the former three are sloppily-done, appealing to people who can't tell the didiley-ifference.
-Consumer feedback is ignored constantly.
And this seems to be the only franchise that gets this kind of treatment. Everything else gets treated just fine, but there's just so much nostalgia for the old dub that FUNi actually makes more money when they appeal to them! Or did you think providing fans who grew up on the beloved Ocean Dub or cheap-as-free Season Sets were inconsequential to the release of current DBZ products?
Fact is, Dragon Ball doesn't get good treatment. The Manga's never been released uncut and was never translated properly. The anime's been getting dud release after dud release. And all this stems from nostalgia from the older era of fans seeing these versions as pure and awesome!
At least I have all the Z Boxes. I actually got my Box 7 at a discount DVD shop, if that means anything.

Re: 4 Years After the Dragon Box Survey
Maybe what Toie was asking was to much and they didn't think they'd be able to make a good profit due to the remaining boxes not being Z.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
