is this just bad translations? I keep seeing in the new arc someone saying they're going super saiyan and then they're ssj2.

Super Saiyan 2 have been reffered as ''Super Saiyan'' multiple times in the series. So its really nothing new or surprising.

Chapter: 443 (DBZ 249), P9.4
Kibito: “Become that ‘Super Saiyan’ thing! I want to test you to see if you really will be able to help us.”

Chapter: 450 (DBZ 256), P2.5, P3.5
Context: Vegeta and Goku talk about Dabra not being so tough
Kaioshin: “Un-unbelievable. Is this ‘Super Saiyan’ thing really this great?...Come to think of it, it was quite hard to stop Son Gohan from moving after he became a Super Saiyan…And even that might not have been his full power…”

Gohan: "So why were Spopovitch and Yamu at the tournament? And what did they do to me?"
Kibito: "Boo has been sealed away for a very long time. To resurrect him, Bobbidi needs a tremendous amount of pure energy. He knew he could tap such energy quickly at the tournament. You were a perfect source when you turned Super Saiyan. Just as we anticipated."

Even Gohan referred Super Saiyan 2 as ''Super Saiyan'' before.

I don't know, I'm so tired of talking about hair since SSG came out so... take it or leave it, whatever fits your narrative.

Given that the second panel has a shot that's pulled in tighter in Vegeta than the first panel, the hair looks the same length to me. The bottom left panel shows longer hair for sure, but it's also a much farther away shot. Do you think it was Toriyama's intent to have this form grow the character's hair out like SSJ3?
