Yes, this is DB we are talking about and when one transformation gets to old and beaten a new one has to take its place.

SsB 2 is very much possible since ssB is just ssj with God ki. I can't see why this was not used during the Black arc. I'm surprised it didn't cross Goku or Vegeta's mind at all.

But if a whole new ssj has to come along i would go around Goku fusing with some sort of Shenron or Dragon. Thus becoming Dragon Super saiyan. Orange hair, more muscular (personally I'm getting tired of the lean muscle Bruce lee body) dragon balls on his body (like Omega Shenron) Extra spikey hair, red eyes , and new abilities.

Ability to survive in space. Nulify all energy. Mid level Matter Manipulation and some new ki attacks.

Adding God power to this make believe form is even better although Tien and Piccolo need something new but that's another story.

It's hard to answer this in-universe , transformations in this series appear "just because" when it's convenient and they can throw at us any silly excuse like the holding hands ritual.
I personally hope we don't get any SSB upgrade, but if (when) we get a new form, it would be more interesting that it bringed something different than "just more powerful". Like, a transformation that makes him much faster but weaker, or one that has a weird ability like Hit's time skip.
Of course, "just more powerful" is what we are gonna get.

What besides Trunks' false God form and Blue Kaioken? Maybe. Frankly I'm surprised by Toriyama's and Toei's restraint. DBZ would be seen a lot differently if SSJ was the only form for like 3 arcs.
