Should the DragonBall franchise have a reboot?

Re: Should the DragonBall franchise have a reboot?
Short answer: no
Long answer: hell no.
A remake or reboot would add absolutely nothing to this franchise. Oh great, I can watch the same exact same show, but now it looks prettier. Hooray.
DB/Z are fine the way they are precisely due to when they were made. Adding "superawesomegraffics" runs the risk of actually ruining exactly what made this franchise great.

It'd be better to change them while they're alive so regardless of a reboot or continuation, they should be changed before they pass away.Bruma rabu wrote:I think this would be a good chance for the Japanese voice cast to be changed. Blasphemous I know.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Hmm i guess you're not aware of all the short comings DB and DBZ have on home release. Toei didn't preserve dragon ball well enough for me to to rule out a remake. Also as i said earlier a remake could ease the fan base to accept new voice actors.kemuri07 wrote:Short answer: no

That simply wouldn't work. Son Gokû, Son Gohan, Son Goten are Masako Nozawa.Bruma rabu wrote:accept new voice actors.
I really hope Nozawa will live beyond 100+ years but at the same time she'll have to retire from voice-acting and in that case, the Son family voiced by her should be replaced by new characters.

Much as I hate to mention it, there will indeed come a time when Ms Nozawa will no longer be able to do voice work, and I honestly feel Dragon Ball should end before that happens. Let it be over and done with. It's okay. We have a complete story in the form of an original manga and an anime adaptation of said complete story, which we can always return to whenever we like. We don't need new stuff all the time. Enough is enough. Dragon Ball was amazing when it happened, and I will always love it more than I can put into words, but that original magic cannot ever truly be recreated or recaptured. Let it be what it is. Let it rest.SuperCyan2 wrote:That simply wouldn't work. Son Gokû, Son Gohan, Son Goten are Masako Nozawa.Bruma rabu wrote:accept new voice actors.

Usually goes by "Kevtrev" elsewhere online.

Re: Should the DragonBall franchise have a reboot?
I would take reboot over any Super-like series anyday.
"Path to Power" is the best DB movie ever made. I would love to see entire series like this.
As long as reboot would be based on original story, not DBZ, i am positive about it.

Re: Should the DragonBall franchise have a reboot?
My only counter argument to this is how well preserved the original series is. Toei didnt think in the long run and let the DB and DBZ footage age and "lost" the high quality audio. Is this a good reason to reboot/remake the series? Maybe to some but to most probably not.TrunksTrevelyan0064 wrote:Much as I hate to mention it, there will indeed come a time when Ms Nozawa will no longer be able to do voice work, and I honestly feel Dragon Ball should end before that happens. Personally, I was happy with Dragon Ball series/movies ending in the 90's but now Toei has opened a can of worms which they probably will not seal for years to come. Dragon Ball Super has gotten so over-the-top with transformations that I wonder if anyone in 5-10 years time will consider them canon or not. I don't care about the whole 'is it canon or not?' but moreso that the story of Dragon Ball Z originally ended as is.
- The original and final Super Saiyan transformation was SSJ3.
- Unofficially, in GT we got SSJ4 which admittedly looks pretty cool, imo.
- In Super they totally went Pokémon-style with evolutions and transformations.
P.S. I can't say I like the purple cat as a god or the whole universe 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8+ thing. Dragon Ball was kept simple in the past and that's how it should've always been.
