I do, and I Never had a PS1. I picked up FF8 a few months ago and I'm looking into several other PS1 titles as well.

Mega Man X4, Final Fantasy 7 (both are greatest hits). Final Fantasy Chronicles(?): A re-release of a NES Final Fantasy Game (2 or 4) AND a re-release of Chrono Trigger, but this is harder to find. Pretty much look at the "Greatest Hits" section. They're all $19.99 [Canadian] each ($29.99 for GH PS2 games) and are all games that did REALLY well when they came out (250,000+ copies sold I think)

So the characters look identical in almost every single way, apart from their hair moving, and that makes you think that they built new models from scratch?Xyex wrote:It may look like the recycle character models, but they don't. The hair on the B1 models moved, in B2 it didn't. They always make new models for a new game.
And do you mean they make new models for any new game? Because they really, really don't. Especially if they're on the same system. Almost all the Mario RandomSport games use the exact same character models.
It makes no sense to build new models from scratch when they'll look almost exactly the same as the old ones. They'll just modify them.
And I should have excluded Final Fantasy and the like from that blanket statement. Still, I stand by the fact that people may have said "Ooh, I'll buy a PS2 because it plays PS1 games", but I bet very few of them actually have.
Knights of the Old Republic is on PC, y'know. And there are many, many, many great games available on consoles other than the GBA. Wind Waker is one of my top ten games of all time (and yes, I'm putting it ahead of Ocarina of Time). And I'm sure me and my mates at uni have all dropped at least one degree grade thanks to Mario Kart. (And Pro Evo. And Virtua Tennis. And Chu Chu Rocket.)

Not necasarily from scratch, no. But they don't simply port from one to the next. And those were 'in action' shots which means that command scripts where included with the models. So long as they re-vamped the combat system those would have to have been from scratch.PsyLiam wrote:So the characters look identical in almost every single way, apart from their hair moving, and that makes you think that they built new models from scratch?Xyex wrote:It may look like the recycle character models, but they don't. Dayspring it's FF4 on that release. When it first came over here for the SNES, it was re-titled FF2, that's probably why you're confused about which it is.Dayspring wrote:Mega Man X4, Final Fantasy 7 (both are greatest hits). B-kun: "What?"

But the combat system for Budokai 1 and 2 is pretty much identical. The models are pretty much identical. It's the exact same game, slightly modified. I'd put money on the fact that the character models were ported across, and then tweaked. It makes no sense, design-wise or financially, to think they did otherwise.Xyex wrote:PsyLiam wrote:Not necasarily from scratch, no. But they don't simply port from one to the next. No, what I'm saying is this. They may take the B2 models, but they don't just jam them into B3. They alter them this way or that way first. Plus, if they changed the combat system like a lot of people have been demanding, then that code would have needed to be re-written, in which case, only those three models have the new code as of yet as well as having been finished.
Or, hell, they could have just stuck Brolly into B2, gave out the images, and then told everyone to quit asking about it so they could actually start working on B3.

True, the characters would have to be modified if the fighting code has been changed. But only, really, to put in new animation routines. It's not a huge amount of work.
It depends on how much they've changed the fighting system, if they've changed it at all. There's a fair chance it will be the change from Budokai 1 to Budokai 2 again. Ie, hardly anything at all.

I didn't know anyone over 11 still had system debates. My Gamecube owns, but not necessarily more than my friend's Playstation 2 or Xbox. Who cares? Leave it at that.
Hey, did I just hear somebody mixing up Final Fantasies? Maybe this will help...

I'm just saying I can't afford a PS2 right now, which is the system I'd get in order to buy Budoukai since it plays the games I own now, the Final Fantasy games, Megaman X games, and the Marvel vs Capcom games. I never once said it was better than any other system, just that it can play the games I want.

And that's the only reason you should buy a system: because it plays the games you want to play.
Although Budokai 1 is out on Gamecube, with Budokai 2 due out shortly. Probably just before Budokai 3 comes out on the PS2, most likely. Grr.
Although, Dayspring, why do you own games that you can't play?

Well, okay. As long as you're not being babies about it. Hmm... buying systems for the games... it's genius!
I'd get a PS2 for the newer Final Fantasy games, but my copy of FF8 is collecting dust, and I don't even have 9. Tactics is still fun for me... Oh, then there's those remakes I should buy...
In other words, I don't need to buy a PS2 to keep me busy. I should probably beat one FF for every 2 they come out with, at least...
Did I mention FF Crystal Chronicles is on the GCN? It is. I love it.

Nono, other than the PS1 games I listed, I don't own any of those games: they're the ones I WOULD get if I had a PS2.

They are the ones I meant. Why have you got PS1 games if you haven't got a console to play them on? And if you have got a PS1, why do you want a PS2 to play them with?

I have a PS1. I want a PS2 for the PS2 games, but still want to keep my PS1 games when I'd get rid of the PS1 console. Hmm...maybe I could sell the PS1 used to microplay for a discount on a PS2. Add that to the $5 coupon I have and the PS2 only costs...$100 more than I have!

Surely you'd only get about £1.20 for a PSX nowadays? Which, in Canadian currency, probably does work out to about $30.

The irony that is that Sony's über PS2 version with HDD/DVD recorder is officially called the PSX XD So maybe you'd better call the old PlayStation a PS or a PSo[ne] ^^;
DBZ3 doesn't seem very interesting at the moment. Pretty much the same.

But a PSone is different from the old PSX. Marginally. The box is different. Yup.
And a PSone costs CAN $80? That's a lot. Surely a Gamecube can't be much more? Or even a PS2?
