Yeah, I would also say a third reason was Toriyama wanting to keep her no matter what.BootyCheeksJohnson wrote: Fri May 16, 2025 2:21 pmNozawa will definitely be the last hold out from the original cast. I said somewhere else on the forum that Toei probably kept her on Daima for 2 reasons.JulieYBM wrote: Fri May 16, 2025 8:32 amI absolutely believe that that was the play they were going for. Honestly, with all the “minis” in Daima being recast with new actors (with the notable exception of Nozawa as Goku), I’m wondering if they were deliberately testing the waters for recasting the series. Especially considering that with the exception of Vegeta, Piccolo, Bulma and Kaioshin, we barely heard from any of those characters. Why even cast new actors for characters like Kuririn, Mr. Satan or Chi-Chi when they only have one or two lines?
1) to keep a familiar voice amongst the recasted actors.
2) because they're afraid to recast her as Nozawa remains the sacred casting. Which, fair enough, I'd be afraid to recast her too.

Well... in Dragon Ball Super I think the direction was worse, especially in the first episodes. I felt like René García was performing as he wanted, as if he were at a convention without any guidance. The "Nadie toca a mi Bulma" scene in Super was so forced and felt like a parody compared to the Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods movie.Tian wrote: Fri May 16, 2025 4:25 amAlthough... the voice direction has worsened since Super. So that's another unfortunate factor.

Which one, there were 2 of them? There's Ian Corlett who voiced the character from episode 1 to when Goku started training in space, and Peter Kelamis who voiced the character from training in space to after Goku lands and beats Recoome. As well as the pioneer dub of movies 1-3.UpFromTheSkies wrote: Wed May 14, 2025 1:54 pm I know this will be a very hot take among dub fans, but I would like to see the original English voice actor for Goku from the Ocean Dub return. That was the first English version I heard of Goku, and I still think it's the best one. (Not better than Masako Nozawa's Goku, but the best English Goku.)

Fun fact, neither Ian James Corlett nor Peter Kelamis is the original English voice actor for adult Goku, Nesty Calvo Ramirez is. The Filipino dub of Dragon Ball Z predates Funimation's dub by at least 3 years.MasenkoHA wrote: Sun May 18, 2025 2:32 amThey said “original English voice actor” so probably Ian CorlettBootyCheeksJohnson wrote: Sat May 17, 2025 11:35 pmWhich one, there were 2 of them? Even more fun fact the original poster specified Ocean dub so this doesn’t seem relevantDragon Ball Ireland wrote: Sun May 18, 2025 5:11 amFun fact, neither Ian James Corlett nor Peter Kelamis is the original English voice actor for adult Goku, Nesty Calvo Ramirez is. Re: Voice actors that you want to be replaced
The rub is, you need something to replace the actors IN.
Like, if the legal battles ever resolve and Super finally starts up again, it’s expected that most of the current cast will continue in the roles they are already playing. Same with the movies or anything else that happens in Z or Super continuity.
BUT, if you were ever looking at a reboot of the series, that would be when you’d recast the roles. Like, if you were going to make a new animated Dragon Ball series starting from the very beginning, with modern technology, you’d need a fresh cast.
I don’t think that will happen any time soon, and definitely not while Nozawa is still with us. But someday, a talented young actor will land the role of a lifetime and be glad we are still telling this story
