I think they will look a lot better when you are holding it in your hands. Has it been confirmed that they will be in jewel cases, like the DBZ releases? Or is that just a given?

The Asian look? You are aware of what R2j DVDs are, right? You do realise what Dragonball is based on, right?
No of course not I only happen to be a fan of the series and all.

Christ all I'm saying is that it doesn't look as good as the Z dvds, it's an opinion.

You've gotta admit the way you put it was kinda funny, though.

"Hey! Why does this Japanese anime that's based on a Chinese novel look so...Asian?" :P

No, it not looking as good as the Z DVDs is an opinion, and fair and fine and all, but I just have to be a bit... I dunno, intruiged as to whether you know the origins of this release/series or not to sort of give it a bit of a "uhh... asian?" approach.

I guess in a way you could look at the inconsistency this way- DB was, for the most part, an adventure/comedy series, while Z, even though being the direct successor, is an action/adventure series. Since one is much 'softer' than the other, relativley speaking, it's only natural for the art to take a 'softer' approach.

I mean I like the Z covers better but I'm not denying the merits here.

Why do these look a lot like the bootlegs?

Because bootlegs use official artwork or something.

It's just different art to Z, it doesn't look like a bootleg. The idea of a bootleg is that it is supposed to look like an official release to the untrained eye. There is no one 'look' to a bootleg, and considering these are original artwork, I fail to see how they can constitute a 'bootleg' look.

I wasn't exactly expecting this design style, but it seems really fitting for the content. I like it, and I can't wait to get these~ :D

Like some of you, I think the whole border thing is kinda strange, but fitting for (at least) the beginning of the series. As they further into the less fantasy driven episodes, though, the fantasy looking border really wouldn't match up :?.

They look good but Goku looks a bit weird though.

Yeah, it would look pretty weird with Piccolo Daimao and that backround as a cover. If they have different styles for every arc, that would pwn. I highly doubt that, however.

I think they look gorgeous. Sure they're different from the Z releases, but they're infinitely better than a cross-eyed Vegeta on a bright orange background.

I would probably buy these if they weren't so expensive. I'll stick with the second Madman boxset for now.

I dont like the style they used on Goku, but the other two are nice. Especially Yamucha.

I like them. The gold makes the covers likeable. :)

I don't like the look of Goku's hair it looks all weird and disjointed or that its not really there and yhas been photoshopped over it from another image. Or is it just me?

Wow, yeah, personally I think they're great. I don't think the golden border is going overboard at all, it looks snazzy. I can't imagine the Dragonball DVD covers looking as hardcore as the DBZ covers if that's what people we're expecting, at least not until much later.

Yeah. The early episodes don't really give much of a choice for what to have for a cover. I mean, what else would these first three or so covers have aside from a generic shot of the main characters... the sword-wielding bear?!

EVERYTHING is made better with sword-wielding anythings.

I really like them. Personally, they bring in thoughts of the initial Chinese-mythology that's referenced and Journey to the West. It's got that "classic" feel to it, that somehow makes it seem more important than it probably is :).

The Chinese mythologic feel is exatcly what I was thinking. Now that I think about it, these do look pretty good. I guess my eyes just had to adjust from the DBZ covers. I'm interested in what characters they choose in the future. I have a feeling that they won't stick to putting only one character on EVERY cover.
