The Freeza Saga ending would have packed a much better dramtatic punch than any other ending of the sagas.

Then again, the manga always was a honest-to-god shônen manga.

Having the main character die and pass the torch to his son... That would be one thing.
Having all of these other characters stay dead, though? When the whole point of the trip to Namecc (and, ultimately, Gokû's death, in that scenario) was to revive them in the first place? That's another thing altogether, really. That would fly in the face of the good old "efforts + friendship = victory" formula.
let's not forget the Android Saga. Trunks Future is even darker than anything before it.
That's a parallel timeline, not the main one. And even then, Trunks actually succeeds, in the end.
Gokû failing to revive his friends, though? Not a fitting ending.

Given that Gohan is who would be entrusted with the torch, the Cell Saga ending is far darker than the Freeza Saga one.

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.
