Abilities never fully explored...

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

I can only imagine seeing Goku try and learn such a complicated technique from an alien race (though it does seem to be a recuring theme in the series).
We might find out about that in Dragon Ball Online, since they've shown the Yardrat people in the trailer.
O.K., that's pretty cool. It's nice to know that we will be able to take most (if not all) of the information presented in Dragonball Online as atleast partially cannon, since Toryama is so heavily involved in it. I wonder how many of the questions he left us with will be answered in the game.

It should include techniques that were either used only once by a single character who never used them ever again, or techniques that were used frequently in the past, but never seen again in the later episodes. Anyone up for it?

:D
Lol, even ones that are only mentioned, but never actually seen. Roshi mentions several techniques that he never uses.

Really? I can't remember him doing that.

How about Recoome's big ultimate attack? Goku elbowed him before he could pull it off (or even complete the name), but apparently it would have destroyed everything in his vicinity. He may actually be able to perform it in some games.

Goku did use it in a couple of other instances. Only one comes to mind at the moment, but I will try to think of the other when I have the time. When Goku returns from Yardrat, Future Trunks decides he has to "test" Goku's strength, and they both become Super Saiyans. Trunks charges Goku, sword drawn, and Goku does nothing. Trunks stops just short of trying to slice Goku in two. Trunks asks Goku why he did not move, and Goku simply replies something like, "I read your mind, and knew you wouldn't go through with it." He was testing Trunks as well!

Goku actually just says that Trunks "had no will to kill" and that "I knew you would stop". Nothing about actually reading minds.

No, I'm pretty sure he said something about "searching his feelings" or "Reading his thoughts" or something along those lines. He obviously did something to know that Trunks wasn't going to slice him in two. Otherwise, that's a pretty intense gamble to take with a stranger on a hunch, don't you think?

Well, here's what's said (my translation):

Trunks:"...wh...why didn't you dodge...?"
Goku:"Because you didn't have any will to kill. I knew you'd stop."

There's nothing about reading thoughts or feelings or anything.

Herms is pretty good with this stuff. So if that's the translation, that's pretty damn exact. Hell, you could compare Simmons' translation to his as well and I'm pretty sure they are very close, though word choice might be slightly different.

Are you referring to the Funi dub, because I know that Herms is referring to the Japanese version (like he always is) which is the official version and tends to differ from Funi's crap.

The term the VIZ translator decided to use was "malice," which is pretty much what 殺気 (sakki) means.
